Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

The end of the sunflowers

I didn't get outside as early as I wanted to yesterday so I didn't finish picking up all the branches or take down the sunflowers. Today though is another beautiful sunny cool day so after my morning walk I stayed outside to finish.
All the branches are picked up and I pulled up some of the dead flowers. I left the cone flowers up yet because the birds like the seeds, especially the gold finches. Then I cut down the sunflowers and spread the heads of them around the yard for the birds to pick at the seeds.
This first picture of the sunflowers is what they looked like after the heavy rain we had.
The largest sunflower was 14 inches across when the yard stick
is bent from one edge to the other.
This is my hand on it.
I put these sunflower seeds from the biggest flower aside for James (Mary's grandson) because he loves sunflowers and liked my giant ones that "reach all the way to the clouds."
I will leave these sit out for a day or two and then send them along to James.

What do you see when you look at this trash can lid?
I see a mean face with slits for eyes and a mouth turned down.

This morning I put all the ingredients into my crock pot to make a new recipe called Mexican Meatloaf.

I have a couple of chores to do around the house (dishes and ironing) and then I'm going to go sit out on the front porch. Maybe I'll read or knit - haven't decided yet. Then when Kenny comes home from work, I think some nice cold watermelon for a snack would be just perfect.
Hope your having a happy Thursday!

I saw the same face in your lid! Art all around us. Your sunflowers would have won a contest! They remind me of gigantic happy faces.

Wow!! Your sunflowers not only reached the clouds they are giants. James will be so happy to have the seeds. He already has a place designated as his giant garden and knows that spring is "planting time for giants." You are so nice to do this for the little fellow. I'll help him make pics of his "planting place" next spring and summer.

And I saw that face in the trashcan lid the minute I looked at it. Neat shot!
