Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A day in the country

No rain yesterday on the way up to the country but once we got here we had a thunderstorm with wind and LOTS of rain that came down in sheets.  That blew over and this morning when we woke up it was foggy but no rain.  I started out on my walk went down the gravel road and headed to town.

After about 3 miles or so it started to rain.  I gave Ken a call for him to come and get me.  I would have walked in the rain but we planned on having breakfast at Annie's Kitchen and I would have been soaked by the time I got there.

Once we got back to the trailer it continued to rain for a couple of hours.  When it mostly stopped Ken went out and I stayed inside for a while cleaning up.  When the rain stopped I went out and worked on clearing a trail down to the little stream, which by the way has dried up to just a tiny little trickle.  Seems hard to believe with all the rain.  The stream was a pretty nice one in the fall when we bought the land.

After lunch there were showers on and off.  Sometimes it looked like the sun was about to come out and then it would rain again and finally about 3;00 the sun came out to stay.

Ken worked on getting the fascia and the drip edge up around the front of tractor barn and the lower side and cut out the front of the building where the garage doors will go.

Here I sit taking a break and looking out at the forest from the deck.
I took this picture from where I was working on the trail looking up at the trailer and tractor barn.  Ken is hidden by the trees as he climbs up the ladder.
We cleaned up and went out for a bit to eat and then a stop a Lowe's once again to get tomorrows building supplies - shingles and one of the garage doors.

After we leave MacDonald's parking lot we have to stop at the store for some ice cream and then go back to the trailer and watch the opening of the Olympics.

Hope your your day was happy and bright.

Vee - We haven't actually seen a black bear here but have seen evidence of them and our neighbors see them regularly.
There are lots and lots of rocks here and our land is all forest.   I'd like to make walking trails all over it.

Auntie - There is no Internet available where we are at this time.  There is down the road, just not up the mountain where we are.

Thanks for all the thoughts on the name.  Some good advice there.  : )

I am glad you all are getting rain. We really do need some here. At least it was a bit cooler today.

It's a lot of work this place in the country. You both seem to enjoy that!

Such a lovely location - when your buildings are complete what do you intend doing with your forest? Is the land just for your own enjoyment?
