Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Thursday

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
A warm 50 degrees this morning when I started walking.  Some sun, some clouds and while the sun was shining it rained for ONE minute!!

Walked all over town today on no particular route, just where ever the spirit moved me.

A couple of guys in a pickup truck stopped to ask me for directions.

No fishermen at the little pond today but there was a pretty reflection in the water.

There were a couple of mallard ducks swimming around but they flew away when I walked around the pond.  Saw a few rabbits and some geese too.

Walked 6.3 miles.

Last night after church some people stayed around and set up and started putting together some Romans books in Spanish for the Fingerprints Ministry.  I've posted about what it involves HERE.
Today we spent the whole day (9:30 to 4:30) at church getting almost 7000 of the books done.
It's always a good day working with the others putting the books together.  We had a lunch break and had pizza. : )

No time for much else today.
Hope your day has been a happy one and you smiled often.

Wednesday

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
The morning started out a bit chilly at 29 degrees, but there was hardly any wind and the sun eventually came up and stayed out and it ended up being beautiful weather for walking.

I walked the Farm Loop today and have passed this farm road many times and always wanted to walk up it but never did because I didn't want to trespass, but today I did.
I thought it probably came out on a field and it did, a little more than a quarter of mile and this was at the top.  The trees in the distance looks a bit like fall leaves but it is the trees starting to get buds on them.
Walked back down the road and continued my route on the Farm Loop.

George passed by and stopped to say hi.  I asked him about his new grand babies and they are doing fine as well as the mothers. : )
Maryanne was out too walking her two dogs.

Once back in town I walked around the industrial park and then home.
Walked 6.3  miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Ken went up to Happy Trails for the day.  I thought about going but wanted to take my car out for a drive on such a nice day.  I went up to Oakland to Cato's to see if I could get a denim skirt but they didn't have any.

Came home and had lunch and then did a few things around the house.  Nice day for hanging the sheets out on the line!

I'd never had or even knew what parsnips looked were before the other week when some of them were given to me.  I'd get them mixed with turnips and rutabaga.  The other day I saw all three of them in a row so took a picture.  One of these days I'd like to roast all of them together with some potatoes and carrots.  Wouldn't that be tasty!!
 That's it for today.
A happy day to you.

A thoughtful teen

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Started walking in a misty rain but that was only for a few minutes.  Then the rain stopped and it was a mixture of sun and clouds.  Very windy again and the clouds flew across the sky.  It was a bit chilly at first with the rain, wind and only 37 degrees.  But it doesn't take me long to warm up once I get walking.

Walked pretty much the same route around town as I did yesterday.

No people out walking again but today there were 3 people fishing at the pond.
School opens again today so I had the usual bus drivers waving at me as I walked along.

Saw three deer up at the park in the woods bouncing along.

Walked 6 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
I look forward to Tuesdays when we go bowling. There were 7 of us there today.  My bowling scores for the day were 111, 147, 155, and 113 in that order.

Made a few stops after bowling before getting home.  Had to stop by the church for a few minutes, then we went to Walmart and the Shop and Save.
I had put supper in the crock pot before we left this morning which made it nice when we came home.  No cooking. : )  Didn't get home until 5:45 so it was nice to have supper done.

One of the teens from church touched my heart the other day.  For no reason she gave me a cookie cutter in the shape of a train.  She had been to the house to see the trains so knew about the trains.  She knows I like to bake too so it was the perfect thing to give me.  It was such a thoughtful thing to do.  Nice to know there are kind and considerate teens around too. : )
You can imagine how I'll say thank you to her!  : )

Its bee a busy day so look forward to a nice relaxing evening.  I might even have some ice cream.

Hope your day has been a happy one and you smiled often.

Some dramatic looking skies

this morning.  These clouds were moving fast across the sky.

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
It was pouring down rain when I woke up this morning so put on my rain gear for my walk.  It was 48 degrees. By the time I was outside the rain had stopped but it was hard to tell what was coming next.  The clouds whipped across the sky.  Sometimes I saw blue sky and it was quickly covered up again.  Very windy and I got blown around a bit but it was amazing to watch the sky.  It never rained during my walk but did after I got back home.

Walked around both cemeteries and the ball park loop and all around town.

No other walkers or runners out and didn't even see some of the regulars working around town.

A couple of people were down by the town pond fishing.  The pond is so small I'm surprised that people fish there.

Walked 6 miles.

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Had a very nice Easter.  We had planned on just coming home after church but Pastor Leatherman and Kathy invited us over for lunch and we had a delicious meal with them and another couple.  Ham, potatoes, corn, peas, salad and rolls.

We went out this morning and did a few errands over in Grantsville.  While out we had  pizza at Little Caesar's.

Wanted to get some cleaning done today but couldn't get motivated once we got back home so I've put that off for another day.
So what did I do instead you may ask.  Read. : )

Hope your day has been a happy one and you smiled often.

He Lives

He Lives

I serve a risen Savior,
He's in the world today;
I know that He is living,
whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy,
I hear His voice cheer,
And just the time I need Him
He's always near.

In all the world around me
I see His loving care,
And tho' my heart grows weary
I never will despair;
I know that He is leading,
thro' all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing
will come at last.

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian,
lift up your voice and sing
eternal hallelujahs
to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him,
the help of all who find,
none other is so loving,
so good and kind.

Chorus
He Lives,
He Lives,
Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me
and talks with me
along life's narrow way.
He Lives,
He Lives,
salvation to impart.
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.

I liked the part in the Bible where one of the thieves that is crucified on the cross next to Jesus repents and gets saved at the last minute. : )
He sure cuts it close doesn't he?
Luke 23: 39 - 43
And one of the malefactors which where hanged railed on him, saying,
if thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

But the other answering rebuked him saying,
Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

And we indeed justly;
for we receive the due reward of our deeds:
but this man hath done nothing amiss.

And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

And Jesus, said unto him, Verily I say unto thee,  to day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Happy Easter to you all.
Jesus Loves You.

A sunny Saturday

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Up and outside at 7:00 this morning for my walk.  It was 35 degrees, dry and cloudy but by 8:00 the sun was shining and we've had a beautiful sunny day though on the cool side.

I walked the Farm Loop.  The farm down there on the right is the diary farm but all the cows were in the barn.  I think they can come in and out as they want to but they usually stay inside when its cold.  I saw a few chickens running about the yard but they were too far away and fast to get a picture.  Some of the barn cats of which there are many were out too.

Geese and a few mallard ducks were on the farm pond just past the buildings.  They all flew away as I walked past.
Lots of daffodils springing up all over the place now.  I like these all along the fence by Farmer Bill's place.
No people out and only a few cars passed me.
I walked around the industrial park on the way home to finish out my walk.
Walked 6.2 miles.
Found 3 pennies and a quarter in the parking lot of the Dollar General.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Doing a bit of cleaning this morning and got a couple of loads of laundry on the line and lunch time Ken came driving up the driveway with the very dirty ATV.
Nice to have him back home safe and sound after having a great time with the guys.  There were 8 of them. The first day he's gone, I like the day to myself and being able to take up the whole bed at night.  They second day I start missing him and I'm glad to have him back home by day three. : )

We went out to Brenda's for supper but didn't have pizza this time.  I had a nice big delicious salad.  We sat by the window looking out at the lake and we saw the first boat of the season go by.  Last year this time the lake was still frozen!!

I keep walking into the kitchen just to see the white cabinets and thinking how much better I like a white bright kitchen.  Ken walked in and said,  "The cabinets look brand new."  He like them a lot too. : )  He said he'd help me with the bottom ones when I take on the rest of the painting.  Thank you all for your kind words and compliments on the cabinets.

That's it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one and you smiled often.

Top Done

I was surprised to see it raining when I got up this morning so I put on my rain gear and had a rainy morning walk.  In the picture above I just got to the edge of the main street in town.  I'm headed down the street on the left which takes me to one of the cemeteries.  Then up the road straight ahead past the little pond that leads to the other cemetery.

There was a truck at the pond this morning that emptied a huge amount of water from a tank that also had fish in it.  So now I'll probably see people fishing around the pond as well as the geese.

No others out walking on this rainy day.

Walked 6 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
As you probably expected another day of painting.  I got the rest of the top cabinets done and put back up and the bottoms are just going to have to wait.  I'm all painted out for a little while.  I really like the cabinets white and know I won't wait too long before I want to get the bottom ones done too.  At least when I do the bottoms I won't have to get up and down on the step ladder.
I really wanted to have them all done by the time Ken got back home tomorrow.  He was right when he said it was too much work for 2 days.

Took a while to get the kitchen back in order.  Took the time to clean all the counters and stove real good too.

Now I'm going to enjoy a nice relaxing evening.  : )

A happy day to you.

Painting

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
39 degrees this morning with sun and clouds when I took my morning walk today.  I left at 6:20 the same time as Ken left for his day on the ATV.

I walked around town, the cemeteries, and the ball park loop.  When it was still dark I saw a few rabbits hopping around and the only part I saw of them was their little white tails.  : )

Didn't see any people walking this morning.  I was a little earlier than usual so that could be why I didn't see Peggy today.
Got a picture of the morning moon.
I walked 6.2 miles.
Found a penny.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Started right after breakfast with the cabinet project.
It is taking a LOT longer than I thought it would to paint the cabinets.  I spent the WHOLE day on this project.  I really thought I could do it in two days, but that is not to be.  It has been a lot more work than I anticipated but I'm still glad I'm doing it.

I've sanded, primed and it is taken three coats of the white enamel to cover.  I've just gotten one section done with the doors back on.  I hope to finish the next part tomorrow.  Doors laying on the table as well as the part on the wall still need another two coats.   I'm thinking I'll do the bottom cabinets and the other side of the kitchen another time.  I think after two days of painting I will need a break.
I've had a long day and I'm tired but feel good that soon I'll have my white kitchen.
Wasn't going to post anything today because it's late but I did say I'd post a picture of my progress.

Hope your day has been a happy one.
I'm off to bed.
Pleasant dreams.

Kitchen - Before

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
It's dark when I first start out walking and today it was 49 degrees and sunny once the sun rose.  Very windy.

Walked all over town.  There must not be school today because I didn't see any school buses and even though there is never a lot of traffic there was even less today.

Saw lots of robins and a few rabbits but no people out walking.
Lots of signs of spring started to show up and some of the trees are even starting to get buds on them.

This tree is in my front yard

Walked 6.2 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Made some cornbread muffins this morning.  No recipe for these.  Just used the jiffy box mix.
Also made yet another batch of chocolate chippers for Ken to take tomorrow.
I was going to hang my clothes out on the line to dry because it was a nice sunny day but it was so windy I decided not to.  I'd just be running outside all the time untangling the clothes.

Ken is going 4 wheeling on the ATV with some friends tomorrow and that is the day I am going to start the painting the kitchen cabinets project.  Don't know how much I'll get finished but I'll make a good start on them.
Here is a before picture.
I'll take a picture at the end of the day tomorrow no matter how much or little I get done.  I am anxious to get started.

It's been a beautiful sunny day though it has been windy.  Sat outside on the swing for a bit planning some future outside work to do.

A happy day to you.

Spring : )

A couple of signs of spring this morning.  (not in my yard)
The first daffodils I've seen blooming this year.  : )
Robin in the sunshine.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
31 degrees this morning but the sun was out and there was no SNOW.  : )  The sun wasn't up yet when I left but once it came up it warmed up and was a beautiful morning for walking.

I walked the Farm Loop.  Such a pretty walk and one of my favorite places to walk.  Once in a while a car passes but today I didn't see any at all.

Maryanna was walking her dog and we stopped for a little chat.  We ended up talking about the tree with the one arm that I take pictures of quite often.  She has lived here a long time and remembers the tree when it was a full and healthy tree.  She too takes a lot of pictures of it. : )

It's only a little over 4 miles around the loop so I walked around town too to get my full walk in.
Walked 6.2 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
We left a little early for bowling and stopped at the Tractor Supply Store.  They had baby chicks and I stood and watched them for a while.  So cute!!
Had fun again bowling and there were 7 of us there today.  Not such great scores for me.  115, 117, and 130 in that order.

Afterwards we stopped at Walmart for a few things and then home.
A salad for supper today.  Two different kinds of lettuce, celery, croutons, pecans, cranraisins, with Raspberry Walnut Lite salad dressing.

Hope everyone had an enjoyable day.

Deb - the tracts are given out all over everywhere we go.  Don't always hand them to people but just leave them around.  One here, one there, you never know who might pick one up.  Most people take them and say thanks, hardly ever are people mean or rude.  I usually leave one in my library book when I return it.  It can always be a good book marker if nothing else. : )

Smile Tracts

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
It was 29 degrees this morning and sunny.  More snow fell last night and we were left with another dusting of snow on the ground.  Some of the places I walked were pretty slippery and had to keep an eye out where I walked.
Stayed mostly on the main road because it wasn't icy.  This is the main road than runs through the middle of town and I headed down towards the turn off for HT which is down a bit on the right.
Walked only part way up Sale Barn because it was slippery and turned around here.
Walking along the road to one of the cemeteries was pretty icy but once I got on the road around it, it was fine.
Didn't see anyone else out this morning.  Sure is nice to see the sun. : )

Walked 6 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
I cooked the parsnips yesterday and we liked them a lot.  I'll definitely be making them again.  I put some olive oil in a baking dish with some salt and pepper and thyme.  Then added the parsnips, some potatoes and a carrot and mixed it all up.  Baked it in the oven at 450 degrees for about 45 minutes.  They were delicious.  The parsnips tasted like sweet carrots.
Ken went up to Happy Trails today but I stayed home to get some things done around the house.
Baked another batch of chocolate chip cookies and now I have enough for the kids at Sunday school this week.

The month of April at our church is tract month.  We are split into two teams and we hand out gospel tracts.  The team that hands out the most during the month gets served dinner by the other team.  This year the teams are called Happy and Glad.  I think it would be appropriate if I were on the Happy Team.  : )
Today I had a box of tracts that I counted into piles of 10, put a rubber band on them and then put them in groups of 100 with another rubber band.
I counted out 2,700 with 22 extra ones. This helps us keep track of how many we hand out.  Other people in church are counting more boxes.  I really like these smiley face ones. : )
So that's been my day today.
This evening I'll spend reading, watching some television and knitting.  No ice cream.  Today my snack will be a cup of cinnamon toast crunch.

Hope your day has been a good one and you smiled often.

A little more snow

My neighbors barn.
No animals around anymore.
The snow was just starting to stick on the grass.
Doesn't seem like spring today.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿

34 degrees this morning and cloudy when I headed out the door.  A few minutes later I saw the first snow flake and it wasn't long before it was snowing.

I walked up and down the main street in town, the cemeteries, over by the ball park, and then up and down the side streets around town.

Walked on the short trail by the ball park too where the snow was just started to stick.

Saw some rabbits and the usual geese that now seem to always be by the town pond and the pond by the Drane house.

Peggy was once again out walking and I saw George again too.  He was whistling.  : )  Whistling reminds me of my gramma, she had a beautiful whistle.

By the time I got home my pink sweat shirt had turned white.
Walked 6.2 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿

It's been snowing all day but it has been too warm for any accumulation.  The grass is covered but the roads remain wet.

Next Sunday is my turn for making the cookies for the kids at Sunday school so I made the first batch today of chocolate chippers and have 70 cookies ready.  I put them in the freezer and will make the rest another day.  I was going to make sugar cookies into crosses and then ice them because it will be Easter but decided 120 cookies would be too much work so they will just be getting chocolate chip ones.

Got more of my book read and some knitting time in too.

Ken is at church this evening for supper.  Just the guys are getting together for what they're calling a steak out. : )  Steak, baked potatoes, and beans.
So I got to have a breakfast supper of pancakes.

A happy day to you.

Saturday

Good Morning
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿

39 degrees this morning and sunny on my walk.  A beautiful morning for walking.  My walk today took me around town, the two cemeteries and the ball park loop.

At one of the cemeteries there were a few rabbits hopping around.
Peggy was out walking with her dog again on the ball park loop.

It is really nice to hear all the birds in the morning.  During the winter you don't hear them and not until you hear them again come spring, do you realize how much you missed them.

I walked down to the small industrial park in town and walked around there for a couple of miles before heading back home.

Walked 6.2 miles.
Found a penny.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Ken went to the auction this morning and came home with a few goodies for me.  A nice glass vase, 5 blue and white plates, and a cardinal plate all for only 75 cents.  I am sorry to say though that when I was washing the cardinal plate I dropped it in the sink and now there is a big chip in it.
I'm looking forward to when I can put some daffodils or forsythia from the yard in the vase.

Started reading another book, Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult.  It got my interest right away.

Thanks everyone for the parsnip comments.  Was going to make them for supper tonight but we went out to eat this evening.  Didn't feel like driving up to Uniontown or Morgantown so we went to Uno's because it is just up the road in Deep Creek.
We also stopped in at Lowe's and bought the paint for my kitchen project of painting the cabinets.  I am anxious to get started.

I've waited all week for my ice cream and boy do I look forward to having some tonight.
A happy day to you.

Parsnips

Blue sky facing this way but looking the other way was a dark sky and soon after it rained.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿

This morning the temperature was 47 degrees and the sky was pink.  But a few minutes later it clouded up and there were a few sprinkles of rain for a little while then it was just cloudy again.

I dropped off a library book down the book slot and then walked through town down towards HT, turned around and walked around town.

Peggy was out walking and so was the woman walking her daughters dog.  The dog is quite a barker!!!  I don't think he likes me.

Walked 6.3 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
The sun came out again which was nice because I had to drive to church for Baby Blanket day.  On the way home though it rained so my car did not stay very clean.  The sun came out once again and by the time I got home my car was dry.
There were 9 of us making baby blankets.
This is one that Marilyn is working on.
Here is a tote filled with blankets that the others have made and ready to go to the hospital.
I was there knitting a blanket it a mint green color.  Have 18 inches done with 16 inches more to go.

While we were busy with the blankets, Caroline's husband Edd came in and asked if any of us would like some parsnips that he just dug out of the ground.  Me and a few others said yes, so I came home with these.  They look like big white carrots!!
I've never cooked them before but was told they are good roasted with potatoes.  Any one cook these and have any recipes?

Well, that's about it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.
