Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Recipe

This picture from yesterdays walk when the sun was out. : )
Farmer Bill's place
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
62 degrees this morning and the clouds have come back, though we did some sun today.

Today's walk took me all over town and around the cemeteries and ball park loop.
Remember Lone Chicken who moved away? Look how over grown her coop is now.
The corn around here is getting taller and taller each day.  I like to hear the wind blow through the corn, it makes a sound all its own.
No people about this Tuesday morning, only in cars.
Just me, the birds, and rabbits about today. : )
I walked 5.5 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Each day more daisies are popping out in my yard.
I've been home all day and got some more work done around home.  Planned on mowing the lawn but it was a bit too soggy for that - maybe tomorrow.
I baked another batch of chocolate chip cookies for Bible Time next week.  I've baked 12 dozen so far with 8 more to go.

This is the new recipe I made tonight for supper.

Pizzaiola Chops

2 Tablespoons olive oil, divided
4 boneless pork loin chops
1 teaspoon salt, divided
1/4 teaspoon pepper, divided
1 1/2 cups sliced baby portobello mushrooms
1 medium sweet yellow pepper, coarsely chopped
1 medium sweet red pepper, coarsely chopped
Large tomato, chopped
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 Tablespoon minced fresh oregano OR 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
2 garlic cloves, minced

1.  In large skillet heat 1 Tablespoon oil over med-high heat.  Season chops with half the salt and pepper.  Brown chops on both sides.  Remove from pan.

2.  In same pan, heat remaining oil over med-high heat.  Add mushrooms and peppers; cook and stir 3-4 minutes or until mushrooms are tender.  Add tomato, broth, oregano, garlic and remaining salt and pepper.  Bring to a boil.  Reduce heat; simmer uncovered 2 minutes.

3.  Return chops to pan.  Cook, covered 5-7 minutes.

I made some rice to go along with it too.
It was quite tasty but next time I will try it with chicken instead of the pork chops.

After supper we sat out on the porch for a little while.  It was a bit on the cool side but nice.

And now just another relaxing evening at home.
Hope your day has been a happy one.

Bowling

I spotted this baby bird who hopped into this bush when I walked by.
He just stayed there and let me take this picture.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
It was only 49 degrees this morning when I left on my walk, but sunny and beautiful.  It did make it up to 70 later in the day. So nice to be out walking in the sun for a change.  We've had so much rain the last week.

I walked around the Farm Loop and went in the opposite direction again.  I never get tired of seeing this beautiful countryside and feel so blessed that I get to live here.
Saw Farmer Bill out in his field and he waved hello.  Just passed his farm I turned left off the Farm Loop route and walked up Spear Road for a ways.  Doesn't look like it from the picture but it is a pretty steep hill.
I wanted to see how the tree was doing so walked to the tree and then turned around and went back to the Farm Loop road.  It is amazing how many years it has been growing like this.  I've taken pictures of it in all seasons.  It just keeps hanging in there.
Everywhere I walk I see a lot of rabbits.  I'm wondering how many are out there.
I walked 5.4 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
As I walked passed the gas station this morning, I couldn't help but think of the horrible accident that happened there last week Wednesday.  A father of three was pushing his little son in a stroller when they were hit by a car.  The little boy wasn't hurt but the dad was killed.  Oh so sad.  Ken and I have sat on our porch and watched him with his little girl laughing and joking as they walked by many times.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
I stayed home this morning to get some work done around the house while Ken went out to buy a part for hooking up the tractor to the rock crusher so we can get that working.

After lunch we met 6 of our friends at the Rainbow Lanes in Keyser, WV for some bowling fun.  We played 3 games. (Mondays games are only $1)  We did a lot of laughing too. : )  The scores of my three games were, 88, 143 and 128 in that order.  We've made plans to come back in two weeks to bowl again.

We worked up an appetite bowling and went to eat at a place called Chat N Chew in McCoole, Maryland.  Pretty cool huh.  : )

On the way home we went to Martins and did our food shopping.  Got the ingredients for a new recipe that I'll try tomorrow for supper.  If it is any good, I share the recipe.

We've had a busy day but it was a fun one. : )
Hope your day has been a happy one.

A story to tell

We've a Story to Tell to the nations
 H. Ernest Nichol

1.  We've a story to tell to the nations,
that shall turn their hearts to the right,
a story of truth and mercy,
a story of peace and light,
a story of peace and light.

Refrain:
For the darkness shall turn to dawning,
and the dawning to noonday bright,
and Christ's great kingdom shall come on earth,
the kingdom of love and light.

2. We've a song to be sung to the nations,
that shall lift their hearts to the Lord,
a song that shall conquer evil
and shatter the spear and sword,
and shatter the spear and sword.

3. We've a message to give to the nations,
that the Lord who reigneth above
has sent us His Son to save us,
and show us that God is love,
and show us that God is love.

4. We've a Savior to show to the nations,
who the path of sorrow has trod,
that all of the world's great peoples
may come to the truth of God,
may come to the truth of God.

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you,
that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation:
but be of good cheer,
I have overcome the world.

A Blessed Sunday to you all.

Rainy Day

Not from my garden but I'd like them to be.  : )
 ✿     ✿     ✿     ✿

It was a drizzly, 62 degrees, and windy walk for me this morning.  When I left there was just a few drops every once in a while and eventually that turned into a light drizzle that stayed for the rest of my walk.  Not enough to get soaked but just a bit damp.  I think the wind helped keep me dry.  The harder soaking rain came after I was home.

I stayed in town walking up and down all the streets.  I saw a man I see once in a while walking his big white dog and he was the only person I saw.  Hardly any cars around either.  I guess for a lot of people it was a good day for sleeping.

Nothing unusual or different around town, but still I do enjoy these morning walks.
Walked 5.2 miles.
Found a dime.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Seemed like a good morning for making pancakes for breakfast.  Then I got a loaf of bread started in the bread machine.  Now I always just use the bread machine for making the dough and bake it in the oven.  Comes out much better that way.

That reminds me someone asked (sorry, can't remember who) about how I make pizza dough.  I use the bread machine and the recipe that came with the machine.
Very simple.

1 cup water
3 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
2 Tablespoons olive oil

Measure all ingredients into pan.
Select the dough setting.
Dough ready in 1 1/2 hours.
We bake our pizza in the oven on a pizza stone.

It's been a stay at home day today and it has been a rainy one. I read through one of the magazines from the library and found a few good recipes to try and started one of the books too, The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant and got into it right away.  It's about Addie Baum who was born in 1900 in the north end of Boston.  She is 85 years old now and her 22 year old granddaughter asks her "How did you get to be the woman you are today?"  This book is her story.

I still have my ice cream to look forward to and a little TV to watch or I should say a Netflix, don't really watch TV anymore.  I'll be making some weave-it squares too.  But first I'm going to go and read some more of my book.

Hope you are enjoying your day.

Friday

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
It was a cloudy morning and 62 degrees as I started on my walk at 6:20.  Walked through town and down about a quarter mile past the turn off for HT and turned around.  Then went up Sale Barn Road.  No cows up in the field again there on the left.  The farmer must have moved them all to another field because I haven't seen them there for quite a while.
Someone stopped as I was walking and asked me if I ever get tired of walking.  Said he sees me all over the place.  Quite a few people have said that to me over the years.  Walking has become such a part of my morning that I really don't think anything of it.  I really could just keep on walking. : )

I saw the bobolinks out in the open field again this morning.  I see them along Sale Barn and along the farm loop too.  A deer ran out in front of me right across the road. I've been seeing quite a few deer along the side of the road that have gotten hit by cars.

Walked 5.3 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Once again Ken went out for breakfast and then to the auction with Edd.   This has become his Friday routine.  Today though he didn't come home with anything.

I was happy to stay home and get some things done around the house.  When we go up to HT to work I still have to do my work back at home too so I like having some time on my own.  I finally got my car washed this morning.  It's been hard to find time when I'm home and it isn't raining.  It was cloudy and looked like rain but it didn't and it actually was great weather for car washing.  Without the sun on the car, I can dry it before the sun does which can leave water spots.

I got my ironing out of the way while watching a couple episodes of I Love Lucy.  Don't have much ironing to do anymore with Ken not working and I have a tendency to let it pile up.

Walked on over to the library to pick up a couple of books that were on hold for me.  Both books are book club books for July and August and I don't remember which is for what month so I'm just going to read the smallest one first.  Also picked up another book and two magazines.  It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow so I'll have my pick of what to read.  : )  Book club books are The Aviator's Wife and The Boston Girl.
Last year on 4th of July they started selling bricks to put around the Veterans Memorial with the names of people who served in the military, with the branch of service and years served.  I bought one for Ken, my Dad, my Step-Dad, and Ken's Dad.  They are now getting the area ready to put all the bricks in around the memorial which is right across the street from our house.
So that's been my day so far.  I think it's time for a little sitting out on the porch.  : )

Hope your Friday has been a happy one.

Fun Land

A picture from yesterdays walk.
 ✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Never got time to blog yesterday.  Went up to Happy Trails right after breakfast and was there until a little after 5.

We stood the front wall up on the cabin, built the back wall and stood that up too.  Here is Ken high up on some scaffolding he built.  The front of the cabin is higher than the back so it will have an unusual roof line.  I'm not even sure how it will all turn out. : )
A picture from the back.
And here I'm looking up from down on the driveway.
After we got home from HT, we just had time to get cleaned up, grab a bite to eat and then it was off to church.
Once we got back home I was just to tired to do any blogging.  I did enjoy nice bowl of ice cream though. : )
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
This morning it was 58 degrees when I went for my walk.  It was a cloudy morning with no blue sky at all and nice to be out walking.  Went first to the post office to drop off a Netflix and then walked around the Farm Loop.  A loop around the ball park loop and then home.  Stopped for a chat with a man sitting at one of the picnic benches at the park.

The same horses down by the Drane House that I took a picture of the other day but this time zoomed in and took the picture from the road by the school.
I walked 5.4 miles.
Didn't find any coins today but yesterday I found thee pennies.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Today we went to FunLand with the seniors group from church.  There were a dozen of us and we had a ball.  We played miniature golf, then had pizza there for lunch outside on the picnic tables.  The pizza was great.  I think, even better than Brenda's.  After lunch we all went for a ride on the carousel. I haven't been on one of them in years and really enjoyed it.
Here's me enjoying the ride.
It looked like rain the whole time we were there but it didn't start raining until we were on the carousel.
Our outing for next month is over at Chester and Linda's place for some shuffleboard and a cookout.  : )

Hope your day had been a happy one.

The front wall

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
The temperature was 70 degrees this morning when I left on my walk.  It was a cloudy morning and very windy.

I walked the Farm Loop but went in the opposite direction that I usually walk.

Over at Farmer Bill's place the Amish were there working on putting up another green house.

I was walking along and I saw a family of killdeers running along the side of the road.  Dad must have been in the lead, then three of the tiniest little killdeers were running along too, followed by Mom.   It was the cutest thing.  When the adults noticed me they ran the little ones in the weeds on the side of the road, then they ran ahead of me and spread their wings out like they were hurt.  They did that a few times and then finally flew back to see the little ones.  They were all moving too fast to get a picture.

I also walked through town and made one loop around the cemeteries and the ball park and then home.

Walked a little farther than usual to make up for no walk yesterday.
Walked 7.2 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
While I was walking Ken was out buying the lumber for the front wall of the cabin and after breakfast we headed up to HT to build it.

We had a couple of thunder storms while we were there and here we sit under the floor of the cabin waiting for one of them to pass.
We finished building the front wall but didn't get to stand it up because of the rain.  What you see standing up is just some bracing so that when we go to stand the wall up it doesn't go over too far and just fall off the building.  This is how we left it today.
I'm baking some chocolate chip cookies now as I'm tying this.  I'm running back and forth as they come out of the oven.  I'm making them for the kids for Bible Time at our church which is the second week in July.  Getting started now because I have to make 20 dozen.  I'll just freeze them all. I'm not the only one making that many either.  A dozen and a half of these I'm baking tonight will go to our fried Ronnie for his birthday.  He had some of the ones I made for Sunday School this past Sunday and he ate some and told me how much he liked them.  I told him I'd make some for his birthday when it came around.  He laughed and said, "Actually my birthday is Tuesday."  So I'll give him them tomorrow at church.  I'm sure he will be surprised that I'm actually making them.  : )

Well that's about it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

An unusual day

The first daisy has popped out in my yard, with many more close behind.
These are at the end of the driveway.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
No morning walk for me today.  I had to report to the courthouse for jury duty first thing this morning. As I was sitting there waiting for everyone to get there, I looked up and saw Jackie, a friend from church walk in the door.  Nice to see a familiar face there. : )  I wasn't the only one there she knew, her uncle, an old schoolmate and someone who is the mother of classmate of her sons were there as well.  I guess it is like that in a small community.
This first time was just an orientation and lasted 1  1/2 hours. Everything was explained to us, saw a video, went to the courtroom, and was introduced to the judge.  This is a first for me and I know most people try to get out of it but I'm looking forward to it.  I think it will be a good learning experience.  I was surprised by how long this will last though.  Have to call in once a week until the middle of September to see if I will be needed that week.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Not all of the sunflower seeds I planted have come up but there are 10 that are doing pretty good.  These three here are doing the best and getting pretty big.
We spent the afternoon destroying a very old piano.  I know it sounds awful to destroy it but it was in very bad shape and not worth saving.  We did save parts of it though.  The piano was out in the barn at church and Ken volunteered to get rid of it.  Man was that thing heavy. We were able to save some of the wood for someone and Ken has some idea to make some kind of a wind chime out of parts of it to hang up at HT.  The rest we put on our our dump pile at HT.

A lot of times on a Monday we go to Brenda's for pizza but today we just went to Annie's Kitchen here in town and had club sandwiches for supper.  They are big and I only can eat half of one and the other half I took home.

We've had a beautiful sunny day - so nice after so much rain.

I was planning on going for an evening walk but I never did.  I'll have to take a little longer walk in the morning. : ) Now I'm going to go sit out on the porch for a while.  Looking forward to my ice cream later on.  The last few days I've had chocolate marshmallow.  Ran out of the chip mint.

Hope your day was a happy one.

MK - Sorry it's taken me a while to answer your questions.  Yes, I have a little bowl of ice cream almost every evening.  I look forward to it and it helps me not eat other goodies during the rest of the day, knowing I have that ice cream coming.
I see a few people once in a while on my walks but it's is usually just me and the animals.  I leave at 6:30 so maybe it is too early for most people and they go later in the day. I live in a very small community so maybe there just aren't that many people around. : )   Whatever the reason, I like it that way. : )

A big onion

Baby Bunny
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
63 degrees this morning with a cloudy sky and a bit of rain near the end of my walk.  Walked around the industrial park this morning and that is where I saw the little bunny in the above picture. : )  He was a lot smaller than he looks in the picture.

I see lots of red winged black birds but they are hard for me to get a picture of, but I managed to get one today.  There must have been a nest near by because two of them kept trying to chase me away.
After leaving the industrial park I walked up the main street in town and then around the ball park and home.

I saw my friend Joy, in her car stopped at a stop sign.  Saw someone wave to me and waved back, then saw her face and realized I knew her and gave her an extra wave.

Walked 5.3 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Ken left this morning right after breakfast to help clean up the barn over at the church.  While he was gone I did some house cleaning.  After lunch Ken went up to HT and I stayed home to finish my cleaning.  I ended up changing some furniture around in the front room. Then sat out on the porch in the late afternoon and did a little knitting.

I got a package in the mail today, some tops and a bracelet I ordered on line from Christopher and Banks just a few days ago.  They are all short sleeved. Everything was on sale and I shipping was free.  Got all for $42.
I'm holding in my hand one of the biggest onions I've ever seen.  A friend gave it to us.  It came from Florida and am told it is the sweetest onion around.  I'll let you know once I eat some it.
Home made pizza night.  I made the dough and Ken made the pizza.  It works best that way. : )

Hope your day as been a happy one.

Sold

Took this picture yesterday afternoon at Bob's place
when we dropped off the gas tank.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
66 degrees this morning when I walked.  There was a breeze and cloudy skies.  Looked like rain any minute but never did.
Walked the Farm Loop today.  Haven't walked that way for a while and it was nice getting back there.  I usually walk around town when the weather doesn't look too good but today I went anyway and glad I did.

Hardly ever see anyone else out along the way though occasionally I do see one of the farmers.  Today I saw Farmer Georg coming down his driveway.

The bobolinks, red winged black birds, and swallows were about this morning.

There is an old long blue building along the route that I've mentioned a couple of times before.  It has been for sale for the almost 2 years now that I've been here.  Well the for sale sign is gone and it looks like someone is turning it into a home.  The lawn ornament is new as well as the mail box, AC sticking out the window and the dish.  They must be living in the RV while working on it.  It will be interesting to see what develops here.  I'm hoping some morning someone will be outside that I can talk to.
Once back to town I made a loop through town and home.
Walked 5.2 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Once again this Friday Ken met Ed for breakfast and then off to the auction they went.  It is always fun to see what he brings home with him. : )  Today he came home with a couple of large saw horses, chains, a couple of things for rolling up hoses, an old gas can, and four little cage like boxes that he was told was for moving bees.  The bee things are for me. : )  I'll do something with them in the house for decorating.  No pictures today but there will be. : )

I did some things around the house and then sat out on the porch and made some weave-it squares.  It has rained on and off all day.

I'm headed out now after supper to Carol's house.  She is having a Norwex Party.  Never heard of it before but the card reads,  Join me to learn how to make your home cleaner, greener, and safer.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

My Thursday

Corn field
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
It was 70 degrees this morning when I left on my walk.  The on and off again rain showers and the breeze kept me cool.

Walked all around town, the cemeteries and the ball park.

The goslings are getting almost as big as the adults now.  They have moved from the pond by the Drane House to the town pond which is less than a 1/2 mile away.
I usually take pictures of old gravestones but this is the most recent one.  Just 9 months ago.
Didn't see any one else about this morning.
I think yesterday must have been the last day of school for the summer because there were no school bus drivers to wave to this morning.

I never actually got wet from the once in a while drizzle, just a bit damp.
Walked 5.4 miles.
Found a nickel.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
We were supposed go out with the seniors from church for a fun time of miniature golf and pizza at FunLand but it was postponed till next week because of the threat of rain, though it ended up not raining.  Instead we went with a couple out to lunch at Uno's.  : )

The cable box that we picked up at Morgantown the other day didn't work so we had to call Comcast and have someone come out to see what was wrong.  He came this afternoon and though we weren't looking forward to it, things went fine.  He came a little earlier than expected and everything is now fine and working.  The box that we picked up was broken too.

One of the church buses has a leak in the gas tank and we went to pick up a new gas tank down in Cumberland.  A while back we did the same thing for the other bus.  It seems there is always something going wrong with one of the buses.  Dropped the new tank off at Bob's, a man from church who will put it on the bus.
It was 10 degrees warmer down in Cumberland at 87 degrees then here at home.  We like our nice cooler temperatures. : )

This picture of the hutch is for you Dianna. : )  Picture is not that great.  Too much light from the window.
This small plate with the blue trim is my favorite one.
Can anyone identify these yellow flowers?  These are not mine but I have a few that my friend gave me the other day.  They don't know what they are but never planted them.  They just popped up one year.
So that's been my day.
As always I'm looking forward to my ice cream later on. : )
Hope your day was a happy one.

Cabin Floor

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿

The temperature this morning was 58 degrees with a mostly cloudy sky but I did see a little blue now and then.

Started my walk going to the post office and dropping off a Netflix.  Then walked down past the HT turn off a ways, turned around and headed back to town where I walked around one of the cemeteries and the ball park.

Didn't see anyone else out walking or running.  Lots of chipmunks and rabbits out as usual and I happened to get a picture of another bunny.

Walked 5.2 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
While I was out walking Ken went and got the plywood for the floor of the cabin.  He got back home a little after I did.  We had breakfast and then went up to HT.  It was cloudy but not raining.  Rain was predicted for afternoon so we wanted to get up and there and try to get the floor done.
We turned this plywood.
Into this - the cabin floor.
The part you see finished is the inside of the cabin.  We used tongue and groove 3/4 inch plywood.  Used liquid nail between the grooves and then nailed it all down.
The part you see unfinished is the entrance way and the front of the building will be our porch.  That will get pressure treated plywood and then a trex like material on top.

We had just finished and were going to have lunch when we felt the first rain drops.  We got it all covered with a tarp just before the rain came.

Back home I baked chocolate chip cookies.  This Sunday is my turn for supplying the Sunday School kids with a snack so these will be for them.

While baking the cookies I cleared off the hutch of my Fiestaware and put the china out on it that I've been collecting.  They are all different patterns but all have flowers on them.   I change the hutch around every so often just to look at something different.

It's Wednesday already so off to church we went after supper.

It's ice cream time now so off I go.
Hope your day was a happy one.

This morning it was 70 degrees and windy with a very changeable sky.  I had some sun, big clouds and rain.  Got wet and dried out a couple of times.  Didn't bother with the umbrella.  The rain feels good when its warm out.

Walked around town and the cemeteries and ball park loop again.  Stopped in at the post office to mail off a card too.

Saw a couple of blue birds, and the other usual ones and rabbits too.  No people out walking this morning.

Walked 5.4 miles.

We were hoping to be able to get the floor started on the cabin but the weather has been very unpredictable and we didn't want the wood to get wet.  In hind sight we could have gotten the wood and put it down because it didn't rain again till 4:00.

I dug up some daisies and we took them to Betty and Dennis, some friends of ours, for their garden.  They gave me a bunch of plants - foxglove, tall phlox, iris, lambs ear, liatris and some yellow flower that I forgot the name of.  They wanted to give me more but I said I'd have to make more gardens.  : )These are the same people that Ken helped by digging a trench with the tractor in their back yard.

I came home and planted all the plants.  It kept looking like it was going to rain but I got them all planted.  Also got the lawn mowed and then came the rain to water all my new plants.

We sat out on the porch awhile - Ken reading and me knitting.  We also played a game of Chinese checkers which I won. : )

Hopefully tomorrow we can get some work done on the cabin.
Hope your day was a happy one.
