The last few days

Ken took a vacation day on Friday and we loaded up the truck and went up to our land.  We took along a snow shovel just in case.  Thankfully we did NOT need it! : )
We arrived around 10:00 and unloaded the truck and got right to work.  Took a late lunch break and went to Annie's for a sandwich.  Stopped by the tractor dealer which is just across the street to check if the backhoe was in for Ken's new tractor.  YES, it was!  Now it just has to be installed on the tractor and Ken can drive it to it's new home.  The man works all alone in the store so it might take a couple of weeks until he gets to it which is fine with us because the tractor barn isn't done yet anyway.
Back to work after our break and we worked until 7:00, cleaned things up a bit and then went to Brenda's for supper.  The weather was pretty nice with the sun shining but still a bit cool.

We planned to sleep in the bottom of the barn and rigged up a tent like place where we put the inflatable air mattress.  We started up the generator and plugged in the portable heater which didn't work all the that good.  After trying to sleep for a while I said, "The front of me is warm but I feel a breeze on my back and I'm cold."  Ken said, "Me too, lets sleep in the truck."  So we got up, took our pillows and blankets and surprisingly had pretty good night sleep there in the truck.

Saturday we awoke bright and early to a cloudy cold morning.  We had blueberry muffins for breakfast which I had made to bring up there.
It got a bit warmer later in the day and the sun even came out again, for a while anyway.  Late in the afternoon we did have some snow flurries and later yet when we were cleaning things up to come home it rained.

We got the second floor framed out, and sheathed.  It was a bit hard trying to get the sheathing up to the second floor but we managed to get it done.  Sometimes I look back at what we do and it amazes me at the things we get done!!!
We are putting in a couple of windows up on the second floor.
At the front
On the right side
There's Ken looking out of the front window.
 And there he is high up on the ladder nailing up some sheathing.
I am very happy to say that we had no trouble at all with the replaced new nail gun.  It certainly made things much easier and faster.
We didn't see our neighbor Ron this time but our neighbors on the other side of us came walking by with their two dogs to meet us and welcome us to the  neighborhood.  Dale and Sean are part timers here like we are but hope to retire here someday.

We arrived back home at 7:15 on Saturday night.  Tired but satisfied at the amount of work we got done in a couple of days.
We had been in our same clothes since Friday morning and oh how WONDERFUL it was to come home and take a shower and sleep in a nice warm bed!! : )

Just had time for a 3 mile walk Sunday morning before church.  Walked down the street and along one path.  It was foggy when I started out but the sun was already out by the time I got home.  It ended up being a beautiful sunny day.
A little simple song we sang at church yesterday but it says it all.

Holy God, in love,

Monday morning has come around fast and back to my morning walk around the lake.  It was a cool 38 degrees but it warmed up quickly when the sun came out.

Quite a lot of people out around the lake for a Monday morning.  A few fishermen out along the waters edge but no boats.
I walked off the main paved path and took the detour route from when they were working on the path.  It makes for a nice change to walk along the trail through the woods.
Back down by the lake I noticed that the water lilies are out.
 The heron was down in the water waiting for breakfast to swim by.  The water was like a mirror as you can see by the heron's reflection in the water.
Looking down off the foot bridge down the end of the lake I snapped this picture of the geese.  He didn't even know I was up there.
Such a pretty morning for walking.
I walked 6.2 miles.
********************
I don't know what happened to the sun but the nice sunny morning turned into a cloudy day.  I have a load of clothes hanging on the line because it is NOT supposed to rain today.
I'm home for the day just around the house doing this and that.  A little work, some reading, maybe some knitting, and catching up on some blog reading.
Enjoy your Monday.

Something special on my walk

It was a warm 53 degrees this morning and very still but it was cloudy and dreary and felt like rain any moment. I walked around the lake this morning and was surprised to see quite a lot of people out there.  Stopped for a short chat with a few of them.
Spotted two rabbits, one munching breakfast on the side of the path and one trying to hide in the tall grass.  Saw some deer again but the highlight of this mornings walk was seeing two eagles.  I saw one of them on the top of a tree and then fly off over the lake.  The other one I saw just flying.  What beautiful birds to watch soaring through the air.

I was about a mile or so from home when I started feeling a few rain drops and before long the drops turned into a light mist.  A block from home it was raining and when I got in the house it was really raining.  I got a little damp but was lucky to have made it home before it really started raining.
I walked 6 miles.
********************
I had some more of those delicious strawberries from yesterday, only this morning I put them on my Cocoa Krispies.

It's been a rainy, cloudy day so I've been home doing a little cleaning, but mostly reading and have finished one of my books.  Got an email from the library telling me that a book I had on hold is now ready for pick up so I'll be going to the library later to pick that up.

I am getting a craving for some of that Sicilian pizza again so I'm thinking we will be going out for supper tonight. : )

Hope all is well in your part of the world.
A happy day to you.

Make up a title, I can't think of one.

A few degrees warmer today at 35 degrees.  A nice sunny morning with no wind for my morning walk.  I walked one of my connect the path routes which takes me on sidewalks along the road and paths through woods, along houses and through a school yard.
I saw two people out walking dogs and also Petey and John who I stopped to chat with for a bit. Those of you who are new to reading my blog, they are an older couple who are 91 years old and walk a few miles every morning and are a great inspiration to me.
I counted 8 deer along my walk and got a picture of this one.
 I was walking along just after seeing four deer and a women coming the other way with her dog said Good Morning and I said it back and then told her there were some deer up ahead.  She made a face and said, "Oh them, there are so many of them around."  Not quite the reaction I thought she would have.
There were lots of birds about making their happy early morning chirping sounds.  They always sound so happy.  I wonder if they every wake up in a bad mood!
Walking along one of the paths I saw a white egret fly by a couple of times.  I've seen them many times over by the lake but this is the first time I've seen one along this path.
I heard a woodpecker and also an owl but couldn't find them.
So nice to be out early in the sunny morning walking.
I walked 6.1 miles.
********************
Well, my pantry was getting pretty low on food so I made out a shopping list and went to the commissary.  When I got to the base just outside the gate there was a little protest going on and there were some people with signs.  I didn't stop to read them but the one word I saw was murderer.
The gate guards usually have a comment to make about my car as I drive through and they check my ID.  Today's comment was, "I'd like to take that for a test ride."
I had a little trouble finding powdered milk (use in recipe for bread machine) but eventually I did find it by the chocolate milk.  Found everything else I needed and got checked out fast because there were no lines to wait on. : )
On the way home one lane of a road was closed because of work being done and there was a bit of a tie up for a while getting down to one lane and then I got almost all the lights.  But I made it home safe and sound with all my groceries so I must not complain!!

I got a load of clothes washed and hung up on the line before I left and another load washed and hung up when I got home.  Nice with the warmer weather I can do the laundry morning and afternoon.

The strawberries I bought today were especially good and I made a sandwich of them for lunch.  I've mentioned eating them a time or two and most of you say you have never heard of a strawberry sandwich before.
I just slice some strawberries, put them on a slice of bread, sprinkle some icing sugar on them and put the lid on.  That easy and so very good.

Try it!  You'll like it! : )

That second load of wash isn't quite dry yet but I do have to go and fold the first load of clothes, do a few other chores and then it will be time for a little reading.

Hope you find bits of happiness scattered about your day.

A fine sunny day

The morning started out a cold one.  It was 32 degrees when I left for my walk.  That is ice on the footbridge!!
The sun soon warmed things up and it was a gorgeous beautiful morning with lots of sun.  After all the rain everything was lush and green.
I am just coming to the lake here along this path.
As soon as I got to the lake I saw the baby geese that I saw yesterday in the same spot.  I walked down to the water and took some pictures.  There are six babies.  I posted a couple more pictures on my other blog if you would like to see more of them.
I mentioned the babies to a walker friend and he said they will probably be the only babies we see this year because the park workers greased or did something to the eggs so they wouldn't hatch.  Ah too bad, but there are way too many geese around.

I saw the white egret, a few deer, and LOTS of robins.

Quite a few people out around the lake but most of them were runners.

When I got back home the temperature had gone up to 44 degrees already.
I walked 6.2 miles.
********************
Ate a quick breakfast, did a couple of things that needed to get done and then left for my Tuesday morning knitting group.  Nice time there as always.  I made 6 weave-it squares.  Nice to work on them because I can make them without thinking and can keep on talking. : )
Did not make the usual stop at the library because Ken and I went there last night after supper and YES, I did get a few more books out!
The rest of the afternoon I'll be here at home.

Ken and I are not a big fan of tattoos but son David is really into them and has quite a few of them.  The last two he just got are mom and dad ones and though like I said we are not crazy about them his sentiment on getting these is special.  The lighthouse is for me because I love them and he said, "You are like my beacon in the darkness."
The anchor is for his dad because Ken was in the Navy and David said, "Dad is my anchor."

A happy Tuesday to you my friends.

A walk, the auction and home

Hey what happened to spring!?  This morning it was only 37 degrees when I left this morning for a lovely walk around the lake.  Not only did I have to wear a few layers, I also had to wear my rain pants and take along my umbrella as well on this cool rainy morning.  But I certainly am not complaining, it's great to be able to get out there and walk.  I pretty much had the lake all to myself, only saw one other person there!!!
I saw my first baby geese of the season!  There were 5 or 6 of them.  They were down close to the water and I didn't get a picture because I would have had to walk through the wet grass.  Then sun wasn't out and I didn't think the picture would be a very good one.  I'll wait for a nice day.
Saw a couple of deer off in the woods and the heron was there again sitting on the rocks by the water.
The rain stopped about half way through my walk so I got to take down the umbrella and didn't need it again.  It rained all day yesterday but we really need the rain so that is a good thing.  With all this rain all the green looks especially bright and pretty.
I walked 6.3 miles.
********************
Ken did well at the farm auction Saturday and came home with some good stuff that we can use up on our land.  Here are of some of the things that we now own.
An old cast iron bell to hang up outside and we can call each other back to camp.
 A water tank which will hold our water.
 An old heater which we can fix up and use in our future cabin.
********************
Last night we watched the movie Secretariat on Netflix.  What an amazing horse he was!!  Penny, his owner, the trainer, handler and jockey were all pretty amazing too.  We thought the movie was terrific.
********************
Though it has been a cloudy and windy day so far it hasn't rained anymore but it looks like it still might.
I planned on going out this morning and doing some errands but ended up staying home.  Ken and I will go out after dinner to do those errands.
So I've been home today doing a bit of this and that and enjoying my day at home.

A happy day to you my friends.

Jesus Loves Me

That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
may be able to comprehend with all the saints
 what is the width and length and depth and height  -
to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge;
that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:17-19

The first song I ever remember learning in Sunday School when I was a very young little girl was Jesus Loves Me.

Jesus loves me this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong.
The are weak but
He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus Loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
The Bible tells me so

Most EVERYONE knows the first verse, but do you know the other three verses?

Jesus loves me He who died.
Heaven's gate to open wide.
He will wash away my sin.
Let His little child come in.
Chorus

Jesus take this heart of mine.
Make it pure and wholly thine.
Thou has bled and died for me.
I will hence-forth live for Thee.
Chorus

Jesus loves me He will stay.
Close beside me all the way.
He's prepared a home for me,
And someday His face I'll see.
Chorus

This song written by Anna B. Warner and was never really written as a song to be published.  Her and her sister Susan wrote a book together, Say and Seal in 1860 and in the book a little boy is dying and his Sunday school teacher comforts him by singing this little song.
When hymnwriter William Bradbury read the words in the book he put them to music and it has become the best know children's hymn on earth.

Have a Blessed Sunday.
Jesus loves you.

A new Secret Sister

52 degrees and sunny this morning when I walked.  Got up a little bit later than usual and didn't leave until 7:00.  Didn't walk on any mapped out route, just walked here and there along paths and on sidewalks.
This tree caught my eye.
 So did this this red and white tulip.
Walking along a path I heard something behind me.  Turned around and saw these deer following behind me and zoomed in on them for the picture.  I stopped to see how close they would get and a couple of runners came along and scared them off.
The runners were the only people I saw out on the paths.
As I walked through the school yard people were out getting things set up for some kind of school fair event.
I walked 6 miles.
*********************
Ken went to a farm equipment auction on his own today and left right after I left on my walk.  I left wondering what on earth he would come home with.  : )
I would have went with him but I went out to church later in the morning.  The ladies met for brunch, a discussion on blessings, some talking , and to pick a Secret Sister for this year.
We played a couple of silly games, which I never like to do, filled out a form telling of our interests and hobbies and then drew names for our Secret Sister.  I sat next to a woman who I didn't know but we soon got talking and she happened to be the name I drew!  : )

I've been doing some reading and just puttering around the house this afternoon.  Ken must be buying stuff because he's still not home.  I await to see what treasures he arrives home with!! : )

Hope you found happiness in your day.

Down comes the tree

A little misty in places this morning but it didn't last long.  The sun cleared things out in no time and it was a beautiful morning.  Our inside/outside thermometer quit working (probably just batteries) so don't know what the temperature was but my guess would be 44.
Walked around the lake and what a great walk it was.  Lots of people out and I was amazed at how many people I knew! and thought if I didn't walk I would never know these people.
Quite a few fishermen about also.  Most along the shore line but a few boats out on the lake as well.

Three geese were standing around together as I was walking along and when I stopped to take their picture, two of them quickly left, but this one just stayed there waiting as if he wanted his picture taken.  I thanked him for standing still, he looked at me and then walked down to the water.  How cool is that!?
 I also saw the white egrets and the heron again.  This is becoming a daily thing now.

I got home a little bit later than usual today because I stopped to watch some workers cut down a tree.  It was along the path on the way home along the stream.   I walked passed the man cutting the tree with a chain saw and passed the truck.  Then stopped on the foot bridge to watch and took these pictures.  There was a rope tied to the truck to help the tree fall just where they wanted it to.

It was cool to see it come crashing down!!   I just never know what I'll see on these walks of mine.
I walked 6 miles.

Another day at home for me today.  I've finished the cleaning that I didn't get done yesterday - cleaning the bathrooms.  NOT my favorite thing to do but I always feel great when I'm done and the bathrooms are sparkling.  Also dusted the living room and did the ironing.

I made a loaf of bread in the bread machine and had a slice of fresh bread with butter and jelly for lunch.  Oh those simple pleasures during the day. : )
Also baked a batch of Chocolate Chippers.  I must admit I did eat one this time and some dough too.  I put them in the freezer so I wouldn't be tempted to eat more.  I always like to keep some in the freezer just for emergencies!! : )

And now here I am on the computer.  I might even have a little time for some reading before Ken gets home.  Its a nice sunny day so I'll be out on the deck.

Hope this Friday is treating you good and that you found your happiness for today.

Home today

49 degrees and a bit hazy this morning when I started walking.  By the time I got home though the sun was breaking through the clouds.
I walked over to the lake and stayed to the lower path when I walked around it.  I stopped a few times on the bridges to just enjoy the scenery around me.  Walked right down by the water a couple of times too.
There were a lot of different kinds of birds around this morning.  I'm sure they are always there but I just spotted them today.
A couple of red bellied sapsuckers were following each other up and down a tree stopping every now and then to do some wood pecking.  I saw robins, a mocking bird, two white egrets flying together, the heron, swallows, sparrows, starlings, and some red winged black birds.
I zoomed in on this red winged blackbird which makes it looks like a painting.
When work was being done on the path one of the the lake benches was replaced with this new one.  It replaced this bench.
Not that many people around the lake this morning but I did see a couple of my friends and stopped to talk with them.  I also had a call from my friend Lin and we walked and talked.
A great walk this morning and I walked 6.2 miles.
*********************
Last night was pizza night for us.  We usually just get a New York style cheese pizza but I really like the thick Sicilian crust and we got that for a change.  It looked so good that  I had to take a picture of it.  Doesn't that look good!!?
I had two slices, Ken had three, and we brought the rest home.  I had a slice for lunch today and there is still enough for another meal.  I put the rest of it in the freezer for another day.

The day turned out to be a nice sunny day so I was able to wash the sheets today.  Just took them off the line but I still have to put them back on the bed.

This morning I made dough in the bread machine and then turned the dough into some rolls for dinner tonight.  The chicken salad I made for supper tonight will be just the thing to put on the rolls for a quick and easy supper.
I got most of the cleaning done that I wanted to do today but just not enough time to finish it all so that will have to wait for tomorrow.

Now is my relaxing time of day and I will visit some of you and then read some of my book until Ken comes home from work.

Hope you discovered the happiness in your day.

A good hair day and friends

55 degrees and cloudy this morning with a couple drops of rain here and there.  Today I didn't take any particular route and just walked here and there along some of the paths that I haven't been on for a while.  I started out walking over to the liquor store to see if I could find any coins.  Most times I do and this time I found a dime.
I didn't see any people on the paths but I counted 9 deer during my walk.
A quiet walk this morning, but how wonderful it is to be outside and walking!!
Here are just some pictures I took along the way.

I walked 6 miles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was time once again to pay a visit to Cheryl to have my hair dyed.  I was a week over due because of being away last week and my roots were really showing.  Ken calls me skunk head when that happens. : ) So on this drizzly morning with cookies in hand I left at 10:00 to remedy the skunk head condition.  My favorite shampoo girl was there to give me one of those fantastic hair washes.  I left there feeling great having a good hair day! : )  If only Cheryl and Meghan lived at my house I could have a good hair day every day!!
I left one friend and went to pick up another.  Mary Jo and I had lunch together at Red Robin.  So nice to spend time with friends.  Eating and talking, two things we do well. : )
A good hair day and spending time with two friends makes for a happy day.
Now that I'm home I don't really feel like doing any work so I think I will read for a while.
Hope this day is being good to you and that you too got to spend time with a friend.
A nice walk
for me again around the lake this morning.  A warm 60 degrees outside with the sun shining.  The light breeze was just perfect for this warmer temperature.  No more of those dark mornings for a while.  The sun is already up by the time I leave now though on the down side I don't get to see those beautiful sunrises.  Once in a while I'll have to leave early.
It was mowing day around the lake and even though it was noisy at times with all the mowers going I like the smell of freshly mowed grass.
Less people out this morning but still a good amount.  Saw a few of my walker friends and they said it was good to see me back again.  They all know EXACTLY how I felt not walking!!
I saw three deer.  This time by the lake.  The white egret was at the edge of the water and as I tried to walk down closer for a picture he got scared off and flew away.  Then I happened to look down in the water and I saw a snapping turtle swimming around.
Then a bit further along I saw the heron also at the edge of the water.  He was hunkered down hiding, maybe sleeping because I got close enough to take his picture.
There were a few fishermen along the shoreline but no boats out on the lake today.
It was such a pretty morning for walking.
I walked 6 miles. : )
********************
Knitting day has arrived so off I went to the mill for a morning of knitting.  I made a few weave-it squares.  There were 14 of us there.  A lot of people left early and me, Sue, and Joan were the last to leave.
As usual on the way home I made a stop at the library to drop off a book and saw one of my knitting friends there.  I didn't get any more books out.  Had a couple in my hand but put them back.  I still have a few at home I'm reading and I am number 2 on a book I have on hold, so I certainly don't need anymore right now.
I had one more load of laundry to get done and since it is sunny and breezy was able to get that last load hung out to dry.  Now I'm done - at least for now!  I use Tide laundry soap and have for years.  I bought these Tide Pods this time because I liked the idea of just throwing one in the machine without having to measure anything.
I think they are so cool. There is the little pod in the washing machine.  It just dissolves in the water.  No measuring no mess.
The rest of the afternoon I'll just be at home trying to get a little work done.
Hope all is well and you have found some happiness in your day.
Walking again : )
Oh, it was sooooo good to get back to my morning walk.  It's been over three weeks since I walked around the lake and it was a bit of heaven being there again.  The weather was perfect for walking.  Sunny and 55 degrees.
No sooner did I start walking on the path to the lake when I saw three deer across the stream.  You can barely see them in this picture but they are there.
Coming up to the lake the Red Bud trees are blooming and everything is turning green.
The dogwood trees are blooming too.
I saw two snapping turtles.  This one was over by the lake on the dam side
and another one in the taller grass further along the path.  I first heard something moving in the grass and went to investigate and there she was walking along.  So nice to see these because I don't think I saw any here last year.
Just another picture I took walking.
Everywhere I looked everything looked so pretty that I wanted to take a picture of everything I saw!
There were quite a lot of people walking around the lake but I didn't see any of my walking friends.  I did leave a little bit later than usual so maybe that's why.  I also tried to take it slower than my usual walk just to be on the safe side with my leg and kept my walk to just over 5 miles today.  Leg feels great and tomorrow I'll be back to my regular 6 miles or so. : )
I want to say Thank You! my friends, for your concern over my hurt leg.  All the well wishes and good thoughts  and the prayers.  You my blogger friends are indeed friends.
Thanks also for all the kind comments you left on building The Barn posts.
**********************
Just getting back in the routine of things this Monday.  There was lots of laundry to get done and thankfully the sunny day has cooperated and I got quite a few loads done.  A couple loads in the morning and the clothes dried fast enough that I was able to get a couple more loads hung out in the afternoon as well.
Another job was cleaning out the refrigerator.  I threw out some old food and while I was at it ended up giving the whole refrigerator a good cleaning.
It was also the day to get back to doing my exercises again and did a Body Electric workout.  I usually do it 4 times a week but have skipped doing it for the last 2 weeks.  I'll probably be a bit sore tomorrow - but it is a good sore knowing I got a good workout.
Yesterday Ken came home from the store with two HUGE cantaloupes and for our snack cut one in half and we each ate a half.  It was so good.  Very sweet and juicy.  Tonight we will eat the second one. At least that is something that is delicious and low calorie. : )
That's it for today.
May your Monday be a day that made you smile more than a few times.
The last day
Early Saturday morning we got all of our stuff out of the rental house and packed the truck, turned in the key and then had breakfast.  Then up to our land for our last day of work.  We had a light day of work and finished up the nailing, putting up some more bracing, and installing the door which went surprisingly easy.
Here's a picture taken inside the building.  You can see the door and the trap door leading up to the second floor.  Eventually that will have a ladder/stairs. Off to the right you can see where we have our water for washing up.  Turn the spigot and we have running water.  A towel hangs there too. : )
We did a big straighten up and put a tarp over the second floor to protect it as best we could until the next time we can get up there.
Here The Barn sits until next time.
We will go up to continue work whenever we can.  This is our fun get a way so the work here may NEVER really get finished!!
Our neighbor Ron came up to see us a couple of times and told us to stop by before we left.  So we drove up the road and did.  He told us he had a little cabin.  Well, his 'little cabin' is a beautiful home
and this is his view.
It will be our view too once we clear out some trees.
We left for home at 4:30 and made great time and were sitting in a little restaurant having supper close to home at 6:45.
We feel we made good progress during the week and look forward to when we can go back again.
It was nice sleeping in our own bed again last night and taking a shower in my own bathroom.
It was nice getting back to church this morning after missing it last week.
After church Ken and I did a few errands, one of which was to go to Home Depot and to return the nail gun that wasn't working right.   No problem getting it exchanged for a new one at all.  Now we just hope that this one works right.
Summer came to our part of Maryland today - sunny and in the mid 80's!  Hard to believe that I had to shovel 2 inches of snow up on our land this past Wednesday!!!
My leg seems to be back to normal and I am really looking forward to tomorrow morning when I take that long awaited walk around my lake!!!!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
BTW - I usually read blogs with GoogleReader but they went ahead and "improved" it and I have mistakenly deleted all the blogs that I read.  It may take me a while to find them again.  This may be a good time to shorten my list because it has gotten a bit out of hand anyway.  I am not going to use GoogleReader anymore but just have a blog list.  Not sure how I want to go about it yet.
