Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Walking, auction and a busy morning

Over night we had thunderstorms with some hail but it was all gone by morning. When I left the house it was 42 degrees and cloudy. The sun was trying to come out as I was getting home.  After being away from the lake for a couple of days it was nice to take my walk there again.  I saw two white egrets - one standing in the water and another high up in a tree.  They are the first ones I've seen this year.  I saw a deer standing at the edge of the path and she ran in the woods as I passed by.  I actually smelled her before I saw her.  Maybe because it is spring? Or I've been out in the woods too long! : )  Quite a few people out by the lake - even a few bike riders which I don't see very often.  My friend Lin is back in town and while she was walking this morning, she called me while I was walking and we talked and walked together.  She lives  near the other house and we met while walking years ago.  We talked for about half of my walk and said good by when I reached home so the last half of my walk is kind of a blur.  It's a good thing I don't drive and talk on the phone!!!
I walked 6.3 miles.

We enjoyed our time at the auction on Saturday.  On the way we stopped and got subs from Subway and put them in a little cooler along with a couple of sodas which we ate at the auction.  They have food there but I don't like the whole set up and would rather not eat it.
As I was walking around looking at all the stuff to be auctioned off, this old guy comes up to me and says, "Nice to see a kid here."  I look at him and look around and he says to me, "You're the kid,"  I just look at him and chuckle.  Then he says, "Look around most of the women here are old. I'm 87, to me you are a kid."   Cheryl must have done magic with my hair trim and color earlier that morning!! : )
I didn't get the things I was interested in but I did pick up a couple of little things.  One of the things that I didn't get was an old wooden wash board like this one that I have hanging by my washing machine.
We stopped bidding at $22.50 and I think it ended up going to $50.

There was a nice little green depression glass candy dish with a handle that I wanted but didn't get that either.  I forget how much it went for.  I only tell about that because Ken was in the back of the room looking at something when he saw a green dish being bid on and he thought it was the dish I wanted.  As soon as he made the first bid he realized it wasn't the right one but no one else bid so we got a green reamer and another glass dish for just $2.  The green reamer we will sell at a yard sale because I already have one.  But I thought this little dish was cute so decided to keep it.  The shape of it reminds me of an old bath tub!! I'm not sure what I'll use it for but I like it.  I also got another old syrup glass bank for the coins I find on my walks.
Ken didn't get anything that he wanted either but we still had a nice time.  It was also a nice day for a ride.  We stayed off the highway and went the back way.  It's only about an hour and 15 minute ride.  It was a nice way to spend the afternoon.

There are always new housing developments being built in our area and we like to go and look in the model homes - I like this better than Ken, but he goes along with me. Yesterday afternoon we went to visit one of these homes.  We were surprised when we walked in the townhouse model to find that it was our house plan.  It was still fun to see how different it was, though the same.  The model looked so perfect, clean and neat without anything out of place and it looked beautiful.  I was thinking of how much better it looked than our house.  That is until I got home and walked inside our house.  It may not be perfect, but it looked cozy, comfortable and so homey.  I was happy to be home in my house. : )

I put the television on at 10:00 this morning all set to do Body Electric.  Surprise!!  It wasn't on.  That happened on Friday too.  Anyway there was a stretching program on and I did that instead.  Oh, it felt so good to stretch and I really enjoyed the half hour. The program is called Classical Stretch.
I also did ten minutes of weight lifting just to round off the workout.

I have had a busy morning doing a bunch of stuff which include hanging three loads of laundry outside.  It was coming in from hanging that third load, that I was getting a bit hungry and realized that I hadn't had any breakfast and it was a few minutes before noon!!  So I made pancakes and had one. I guess I'll be eating a late lunch!!

So here I am now writing this after eating my pancake.  Thought I take a break, then get back to work.  I'll be back on the computer later to visit blogs.
The temperature is supposed to reach 80 this afternoon - right now at 12:30 it is 65 degrees.  If it does get to 80 or the high 70's I will make some time to sit out on the deck too.

Hope you enjoy your Monday and that you find bits of happiness scattered throughout your day.
A smile from me to you.

What a busy time you have had. The auction sounds fun, I haven't been to one for years. When you walk and chat at the same time the miles just go by, but nice too.

I think that statement from that older gentleman, to you, was a Great Find For The Day, by itself. :-) That was so cute of him.

Seeeeeee, when we get "olden," we say things we think, more often than when we were younger. If I see a lady with lovely hair, I tell her it's lovely. If I see a Mom, who bothered to put a bow in her little girl's hair, I say I Love it. Etc.

Why do we wait, till we are "olden," to say some of the NICE things we THINK? Why not say them? Everyone likes a "stroke" or a compliment. :-)

You do look a lot like a teenager I think so I'm not surprised that an old feller would mention it. John told one of the ladies at church that her hair looked nice (she'd just had it done) and she said, "What do you want? A quarter?" He's been laughing over that. I told him that since he'd just be hit up by two people for sponsorships that he should have said yes.

Your bowl has a very pleasing shape. I'm glad that you're going to keep it. Maybe next time! The fun of these auctions is more the going and returning home I guess.

Hi HO, that would have been nice hearing someone calling you a 'kid'.... Nothing would make me feel better!!!!! (I always love it when someone 'asks' IF we qualify for a Sr. Discount.... ha ha )

Sounds like you had a wonderful time at the auction... I would love that candy dish.... Neat!!!!

Back from vacation --trying to catch up a little!!!!

How surprising if it actually does get to 80 when you started at 42! I have an old wash board in my laundry room too. We got 14" of new snow overnight - I skied in it this AM.

I love days like you describe taking the back roads and stopping at interesting places along the way. Glad you were able to find something at the auction along with that nice compliment.
Our temperature is close to 80 too, but it's very windy. I looked out there once and it looked like it was snowing. On closer inspection it turned out to be pollen.

I used to enjoy visiting models but my husband doesn't and now there is no time for that kind of stuff.

The models I found were decorated minimally and in some regards - sterile. The goal is for the customer to see past that stuff and how it might look good with their stuff. Since no one actually lives there I always thought it looked like a magazine.

Real live houses always look better.

I can tell your walk just breezed by today on the phone with Lin. How funny you were both talking on the phone to each other while walking and not together. By your pictures posted, you do look young. I used to get embarassed by compliments. I had to "teach" myself to say "thank you" smile and go on. I use to blush and walk away without acknowledging the compliment. I too like your little "bathtub" dish. Maybe a soapdish, maybe a candy dish, maybe another change dish for Ken (to give you eventually :)? I'm sure you'll find good use for it. The house that had your floor plan was a house. Where you live is HOME. I too would rather be HOME. Thanks for the tip on the Wednesday shopping, I think I'll change my day. Hope you got some deck time outside, it was truly a gorgeous day. I'm just waiting for this weather to be daily, Spring will have arrived.

How does it feel to be referred to as a kid? I'm afraid those days are long past for me. But I'm glad you enjoyed the auction even if you didn't get the things you wanted.

Your auction sounds like it had some good stuff. Love auctions. We went to one Sat, and I got a few good things that are old. I wanted this old nad held iron corn sheller, but evidently they are what a lot of people want...it went for $300.00. I got a bag of bullet pencils, and old miners carbide light, and old sewing tool that I do not know what it is used for but looked interesting. And a few other things. Sorry you did not get the wash board. I look back at some of the things my parents had, and wonder why we did not keep them. My daughter does have the old wood ice box which she had finished.

What's a 'green reamer'?

Kathy, A reamer is used to squeeze the juice out of oranges or lemons.
