Amish supper

Picture of the Day
Early evening, Amish children running at the edge of a cornfield
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
60 degrees this morning and the sun was shining.  I walked the Farm Loop.  Off the FL is Spear Road and I walked up there to get another look at the tree.  Every so often I like to walk up there to see how the tree is doing.  I've taken many pictures of it and it just amazes me to see that one branch still hanging on.  It will be a sad day when it finally comes down.
I turned around at the tree and walked back down the hill to the Farm Loop road.
Farmer Bill was just walking over to his field when I walked by and we stopped to chat for a bit.

Since I walked up Spear I didn't have to walk around town to get all my miles in.
I walked 6.2 miles.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
Last night at the Amish supper was a great time and lots to eat and so many people.  They got a bigger turn out than expected.  There was corn, chicken, hamburgers, cole slaw, roasted potatoes, chili, and rolls.  Ice cream, brownies, cake and pie.  There were hundreds and hundreds of people.   We saw a lot of people we knew there.  The fire you see in the picture was were the corn was being cooked right in their husks.
This picture inside the barn isn't that great but you can see the size of it.
A couple sang a few songs as well as a group of four Amish men.  There was also an auction that started at 8:00 but we had left by then.  The donation cans were stuffed with money.  So nice to see a community come together like this to help.  It does a heart good.  The man who was hurt is doing well and now he won't have to worry about his medical bills.  God is Good.

I'm home today puttering around the house and trying to get some work done while Ken is once again up at Happy Trails getting more stone.  While he is looking for some nice flat ones for the patio he is also making a stone wall up at HT.

Hope your day is a happy one and you smiled often.

A new place for kayaking

Picture of the day
Walking up the hill on a sunny morning
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
It was a beautiful sunny morning for walking and it was 50 degrees.  I got a bit of a late start and didn't leave until a little after 7:00.  Another random walk.  Walked up and down both hills behind my house, then walked down toward Happy Trails and back to walk around town.

These two little horses, Patriot and Flicka live up at the top of the hill in the above picture.  I stopped to pet them and gave the brown one a fright.  As I touched her we both got an electric spark and she took off.  I don't think she is going to let me touch her again.
Didn't see anyone else out walking but did see some school buses.

I walked 6.2 miles.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
Since it was such a beautiful sunny day and we didn't get to go earlier in the week, we went kayaking.  This time to yet another new place, Jennings Randolf Lake which is 30 miles away from our house. What a beautiful place.  With just seeing two other boats we practically had the whole lake to ourselves and its a big lake.
Here is where we put in the kayaks.
We paddled around for a couple of hours.  Here is a railroad bridge that we are about to go under.  Up ahead is a huge stone and earth dam.
Here is where they let the water out of the lake to go down the Potomac River.  As you can see the water is pretty low.
We stopped along the shore line by some rocks and ate a picnic lunch.  Ken is sitting up on the rocks where we ate and took this picture of me standing on the rock taking in all the beauty. : )
We had perfect weather, sunny the whole time and the temperature in the 70's.  On one side of the lake is Maryland which is where we put the kayaks in and on the other side is West Virgina and is where we ate lunch.  You can check out the lake HERE if you want to read more about it.

We are home now for a couple of hours and then will be going to have an Amish supper.  An Amish man fell off the roof of a barn and got hurt pretty bad.  This supper is being held to raise some money for his medical expenses.  The Amish will cook the supper and the people that attend leave a donation.  I'm sorry the man got hurt but I'm looking forward to the supper and wonder how many people are going to be there.

So that's been my day so far.  Hope this day finds you happy and smiling.

Another good day

Picture of the Day
Fall is on its way
 ❤    ❤     ❤     ❤
Rained last evening and over night but it had stopped when I started walking.  A cloudy morning with some sun and it was 60 degrees.

I walked the Farm Loop and around one of the cemeteries and the behind the ball park.
Haven't seen the chickens at one of the farms for quite a while but they were out in the front yard this morning as I walked by and they stayed so I could take their picture.  Isn't he a handsome rooster!!
Walking past one of the churches were a couple of men doing some work on the building.  We said good morning and then one of them asked if I had a cell phone and if he could borrow it.  He had locked his keys and cell phone in his truck and had to call his wife to bring his extra key.  I told him your day can only get better after a not so good start.  He laughed and told me to have a good day.

I walked 6.2 miles.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
Thanks so much for the prayers for Betty.  She is doing very well.  Moved out of ICU last night and already is saying she wants to go home so she can go to church on Sunday. : )

Remember two weeks ago when Ken and I went to Perkins to meet people from church for lunch only we had the wrong day?  Well today was the day.  : )  It is called Super Seniors Luncheon and meets once a month.  This is the first one we have gone to. We had such a nice time.  I had a half sandwich and a piece of delicious Lemon Meringue Pie.  Next month is a picnic in someones back yard.  Too bad our stone patio isn't done yet.  We could have had it here.
Pastor said a few words and challenged us to do 5 things every day.
  1. Read the Bible
  2. Pray
  3. Do an act of kindness
  4. Thank God for something specific
  5. Witness to someone
The first two peppers and a tomato we picked from our garden.  We made BLT's for supper yesterday with that tomato. Oh boy, there is nothing like fresh produce out of your own garden.
We are thinking about having a small green house so we can start our garden earlier in the season next year.

A beautiful sunny day with a nice breeze.  Warm in the sun but cool in the shade.  Ken waxed my car for me and now it shines like a brand new car.
While he waxed mine I washed his. His is a 2005 and three years newer than mine.  Here is Ken's nice clean car.  The yellow color seem attracts bugs and wow were their a lot of bugs to clean off the front.
Hope you enjoyed your day and you smiled often.
God loves you.

A sunflower

Late blooming sunflower in my yard.
It is on the small side but has lots of buds about to open.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤

50 degrees this morning with a mix of sun and clouds.  A completely random walk today just walking wherever my feet happened to take me.

In the picture I'm coming down from the cemetery by the Drane house.  The church up ahead is on the main road in town.

There was a man and a dog walking around town and they must have been on a random walk too because we passed each other 4 times.

An uneventful walk but a good one never the less.
I walked 6.2 miles.
Found a penny.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
We had planned on going kayaking but rain was expected so we decided not to go.  Ken went up to HT again and I stayed home.

I finally got around to washing my car.  Nice to have a nice clean car again.

As it turned out it never did rain and we could have gone kayaking.  The clouds are moving in now and maybe we'll get that rain tonight.

We will be going to church this evening and I will find out how Betty is doing.

Hope your day had been a happy one.

Tuesday

Picture of the Day
Looking up, walking at Happy Trails today
 ❤     ❤     ❤     ❤

It was 52 degrees this morning when I went for my walk.  After walking about three miles the sun made its way over the mountain and it was a nice sunny walk.

Went around the Farm Loop, one of the cemeteries, the ball park loop and around town.

I spotted two baby skunks walking across the road.  They must have been following mom but she was already across and in the bushes.  I gave them a wide berth and didn't try to get any pictures.

No other walkers or runners.  A pretty quiet morning.
I walked 6.5 miles.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
We spent the morning out and about doing some errands and then after lunch we went up to Happy Trails.  Ken harvested rock and I mostly walked around on the trails enjoying the countryside.
It was a delightful day with plenty of sunshine, a few clouds, and a light breeze every now and then.

Hope you had a bright and sunny day and smiled often.

Bright and clear

Picture of the Day
Marigolds in my yard
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
This morning dawned clear and bright with a temperature of 54 degrees.  I put a couple dozen chocolate chip cookies in a ziplock baggie and then in a plastic shopping bag and headed out around the Farm Loop.  The cookies were for Farmer Bill to say thanks for the beans and zucchini.  I was just going to hang them on his door knob but he was outside so I handed them to him.  He gave me a big smile and said thanks!!

Walking down the road between fields of corn I stopped a moment to listen to the breeze blowing the corn around.  It was just that sound and a few birds chirping in the distance.  Oh, Life is Good.
I took the road through Farmer Marvin's Farm and saw this shed almost hidden in the trees.
Back in town I walked around the cemeteries and the ball park loop.  Spotted this poor dead snake in the road.
Today was the first day back to school for the kids here and I saw a few kids standing at bus stops but oddly I didn't see any buses.  I must have been a tad too early.
It was a beautiful morning for walking.
I walked 6.2 miles.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
Ken went up to Happy Trails and I wanted to go with him but had too much to do at home.  Got the laundry done and what a beautiful day to hang it all out on the clothes line.  Lawn mowing day too and boy I sure do get the lawn done fast.  My rider does a great job and really moves .  My neighbor started mowing before me and has less yard to mow and I was done way before he was.

This is a picture in the front of my house.  Where the flowers are planted on both sides of the sidewalk are where I took all those shrubs out.  There were at least a dozen of them.  I like it so much better with just the flowers.
I had mentioned a while ago that I was writing notes to prisoners around the country  for my church.  Well, now I'm getting answers to some of them, thanking me for the words of encouragement.  Nice to know they read them and are encouraged.  I've written back to all who write back to me. (All the letters go to the church and I don't sign my name.)

I really need to wash my car but I'm going to put that off for another day.  What sounds good to me, is to sit on the porch and read until Ken gets home.  Then I'll help him unload the trailer.

Hope your Monday is sunny and bright.

Mr Harvey from my church that I asked you to pray for is doing very well now.  He came to church yesterday and no longer needs a wheel chair.  He came walking in with just a cane. : )  He's not back home yet but probably will be soon.
Thank you all for your prayers and thank you GOD.

Now I have another prayer request.  Betty who sits next to me in church went for checkup and to everyone's surprise needs to have open heart surgery tomorrow.  She has no outward symptoms and feels perfectly fine. Please pray that all goes well tomorrow.  Thanks so much.

Another good day

Picture of the day.
Blacked Eyed Susans up along Barn Sale Road

❤     ❤     ❤     ❤

This morning it was 64 degrees with some low hanging clouds and in some places the sun was shining.

First walked to the post office and mailed off a Netflix, walked around the loop behind the ball park and then headed up Barn Sale Road.  That's where I'm walking when I took the picture.  Those are some of Farmer Marvin's cattle.

A very quiet Saturday and a short walk this morning for me, only walked 4.5 miles.  I had to get home because we were going out and I ran out of time.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
We went to an auction this morning at the fair grounds.  We looked around but didn't see anything we had to have so we didn't stay very long.

Next stop was a big rig truck show with festival type activities.  Craft, food, games, and stuff like that.  We didn't stay there long either.  Just looked at everything thing and then went on to a store called Whispering Pines just over the boarder in PA.  It's a rustic furniture store but has lots of country decorating items and outside items as well.  I loved everything in the store but didn't buy a thing.

We were back home early afternoon.  Then it was up to Happy Trails to get more dirt and rocks.  I went along with Ken this time.
Here along side of the tractor barn is where he has been getting the dirt.  Nice to have more room around by the barn now.
Here is the progress of the patio.  Lots of trailer loads of dirt have been brought in and rocks too.  Ken has lined the edge of patio with rocks.  We just need a few more trailer loads of fill and then he can start putting the rocks down for the patio.
Pictures from both sides.
So it's been another busy day for us here who live at Happy Acre.

A couple of last things about my hair.  Yes, I could go back to Sherry and ask if she could do something with my hair to make me like it better and I know she would be more than happy to do that.  But I'm thinking she would have to cut it more and then it would just take longer to grow out.  She actually did a great job cutting it, I just don't like how it looks on me and I don't think shorter would make me like it more. : )  It doesn't look like it in the picture but my hair actually is layered.
I am getting a bit used to it now and I really think I'll like it when it grows a couple of inches.
Vee - I did go back and read you post about your hair cut. : )

Hope your day has been a happy one.  I am sure looking forward to my ice cream later.  It has been a long day.

Pretty and Pink
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤

This morning it was 62 degrees and drizzly for my walk.  It never rained hard but a nice steady drizzle.  Kept me nice and cool.

At one point I stopped to listen to the rain gently falling on the soy beans.  It is really a nice sound.

I stayed in town and walked all over the place.  I didn't see anyone else at all.

I saw a big old fat groundhog.  He was the biggest one I've ever seen.

I had a nice 6.2 mile walk.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
Thank you all for the kind things you said about my hair cut.  After sleeping on it, I don't like it any better.  I think it needs to grow about 3 inches and I'd be happy.

It is cleaning day for me.

Good Fences and a hair cut

I'm linking up with GoodFences today.

This morning it was 60 degrees and foggy.  I'm walking up to one of the cemeteries in the picture.

I walked half way to Happy Trails, then turned around and headed back to town where I finished out my walk.

A pretty quiet morning.  Only saw Peggy walking Saxton.

Saw the usual rabbits and birds and it was a nice peaceful walk.
I walked 6.2 miles.

Thanks Again. : )
I'll have to make a sign of some kind to hang out front.

The main event of the day today was getting my hair cut.  First of all Sherry cut it like the picture, but my hair just doesn't fall like the models hair so it really looks nothing like the picture.  I'm thinking it will look different once I wash my hair and let it dry naturally.

I've spent a lot of the day running into the bathroom to look in the mirror trying to get used to it.  I'm being brave posting this picture of my haircut because I'm not that crazy about it.  But here it is.
Ken's comment about my hair is he thinks it is 'cute.'

I've discovered some games on the Guide Post website to play and I've been spending a lot of time playing them.  I really must go and get something done today.

Hope your day is a happy one.

65 degrees and cloudy when I started walking this morning, but the clouds soon let loose the rain and I walked a few miles in a light drizzle.  With two miles left to go the rain stopped and I started drying out.

I walked all over town.  Didn't want to get too far away from home because I heard a little rumble of thunder.

Nothing out of the ordinary on my walk today.  Just a nice summer walk in the rain.  The rain kept me nice and cool.

I walked 6.2 miles.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
No work on the patio today because of the on and off again rain so we hopped in the truck and had an outing for the day in LaVale.  Went in and out of stores looking around and buying a couple of things.

We've been thinking about buying a car for the winter here because the vette's don't do snow.  Thought about a jeep but decided against that. We've heard and read all good reports of the Subaru and we like the look of the CrossTrex so we decided to give it a test drive.
It was a very nice car.  Rode well, was comfortable, and nice looking, but there was nothing special about it.  It was just a car to get from one place to another.  So we decided it wasn't for us.  I guess when you are already driving your dream car, no other car is going to measure up.  We will look around some more but I think we will probably end up with another truck.

Well, it's getting to be that time when I'd better decide on supper.
Hope your day has been a happy one.

A garden shed along my walk
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
A cloudy morning and 64 degrees when I headed out on my walk around the Farm Loop.  Farmer Bill was out in the cornfield and he gave me another ear of corn and we each ate one while we talked.  It was so sweat it was almost like eating candy.

The other day when I met Farmer Marvin I asked if I could walk down his farm road to cut over to the cemetery.  He said sure anytime, so today I did.  Coming down to town just past the school on the farm loop I turned in here.
 Walked toward the barns,
then between them, around to the right and the cemetery is up the hill.
I walked around both cemeteries and the loop behind the ball park and home.
I saw a downy woodpecker and quite a few goldfinches.  Peggy was walking without her dog today.  She was too far away for me to ask where he was.
School starts next week and the teachers are at school this week.  Saw a few of them arriving as I walked passed the school.

I walked 6.2 miles.

Ken got another load of fill up at HT and we got it unloaded before the rain came.

Oh, the little frog in the pond is nowhere to be seen.  I guess he didn't like his new home.

Thursday I have a hair appointment with Sherry for my usual hair dye.  This time I've decided I need a bit of a hairstyle change.  I've looked at lots of hair styles and I've decided on this one.  What do you think?  The color of my hair will still be dark brown, just the cut will be like this.
The pumpkins coming along nicely.  This one is getting pretty big.
We have quite a few yellow pumpkins as well and didn't even realize we had planted any.
I moved a few things around the house today and brought a chair from the guest room up into the living room.  The chair comes apart so I could carry the two parts up the stairs separately.  Still it was an effort to get it up the stairs.  I should have waited for Ken but didn't want to wait.

I've done enough cooking the last few days, so tonight I have the day off and we are going to Brenda's.

That's about it for today.  Hope your day is bright and happy.

Recipe and Walks

Down a Country Road
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
The weather wasn't great for the picnic at church yesterday but it didn't matter because we all had a great time anyway.  We had a guest speaker who is a friend of Pastor Leatherman's.  David Sommerdorf and his wife Debra.  They live and travel around the country in a RV with their 1992 "Marine Corps-Vette.  He is a wonderful speaker and his sermons really get to the heart.  The car is a memorial for the people of 9-11 and the military and is beautiful.   If you'd like to see pictures of the car and to learn more about it, you can visit their website HERE.

Here are the The Apple Turnovers I made for the picnic.
The recipe.  It sounds easy and is but there are a lot of steps and my kitchen looked like I let a bunch of 4 years loose in it.

Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 can Pillsbury Grands refrigerated extra rich biscuits (I used the original)
  • 1 cup cinnamon and spice apple pie filling and topping.  (I used a can of apple filling and added sugar and cinnamon)
  • 4 teaspoons butter, melted

Steps:
  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees.  Spray cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray.  In small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon.  Set aside.
  2. Separate dough into 8 biscuits.  Press or roll each to form a 5-inch round.  Place on sprayed cookie sheets.
  3. Place 2 tablespoons pie filling slightly off center on each biscuit round on one cookie sheet.  Fold biscuits over filling; press edges with fork to seal.  Prick top of each 3 times with fork.  Brush each with melted butter; sprinkle with sugar mixture.
  4. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes or until deep golden  brown.  Some filling may bubble out at edges.  Immediately remove from cookie sheet.  Cool 5 minutes before serving.  Serve warm.
I used three cans and made 24 of them.  The picture only shows 23 because Ken and I ate one.  They were not warm at the picnic and they were ALMOST as good.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
This morning it was 60 degrees and cloudy with a little sun when I left for my walk.  Had a random walk around town.  I got started later than usual.

I was walking around the loop by the ball park and spotted a deer standing perfectly still on the trail down by the water.  I stopped too and we both stood there.  Slowly I put my camera up, took a picture and slowly walked away.  The deer never moved at all.  I turned around a few seconds later and she was gone.
I only walked 4.5 miles.
I went home because we planned on going to Annie's Kitchen for breakfast and didn't want to go too late so I got home at 8:00.  After breakfast I went with Ken up to HT to get more fill for the patio.  While he was loading the trailer (thankfully he has the tractor which makes quick work of getting a trailer full) I walked home.  Figured I'd make up the rest of the miles I didn't walk earlier.
A couple of pictures I took on my walk home.

Ken passed me with his load when I was just about back to town.
I walked another 2.8 miles.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
When I got home I helped unload the trailer and then when Ken went back for a second load I cooked up the chicken for supper tonight. (Chicken Parmesan)
It looked so good I couldn't help but eat a little piece of the chicken.
Ken came back with the second load and then we had lunch.

He went back for load number three and I stayed home to get some things done around the house.

I'm now waiting for Ken to get home with the trailer so I can help him unload.  Then it is inside to make supper.  Just have to put some sauce and cheese on the chicken, put it in the oven and make some spaghetti.  We will probably eat it out on the porch which we do a lot of lately.

Hope your Monday is a happy one and you smiled often.
