Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Walking Outside

It was 25 degrees, no wind and cloudy when I walked this morning and yes, I got to walk outside.  Sure glad I had those ice grippers on.  As you can see in the picture there was lots of ice around.
I stayed around town.  It would have been good on the farm loop road but getting there I would have had to walk down the busy road and the shoulders of the road aren't cleared that great and when those 18 wheelers come barreling down the road I want to be able to get way to the side.

The road up to one of the cemeteries wasn't plowed yet and I walked in the tire tracks.
This little snow covered bird house caught my eye.
 Saw a couple of rabbits and LOTS of rabbit footprints.  Deer prints too but no deer.

No others out walking but did see snow plows out, and the regular school bus drivers around.

My Stiiv  (pedometer) battery was extremely low so I went home after just a mile and plugged it in for a few minutes.  Recharged it just enough so I could finish my walk then walked another 4 miles before it got too low again, so only walked 5 miles today.  I'll probably go walk another mile or two down the basement later today.

Really enjoyed the Tea Time magazine.  Some really good sounding recipes in there and  the Chocolate Biscuit Cake is my favorite.  I will be trying it one day soon.
It calls for a package of English-style tea biscuits.  I remember eating McVities biscuits when we lived in Scotland.  I don't remember seeing them around here but have never looked.  Anyone ever see them?

We went out today to do some errands.  We thought we'd better go today because tonight we are supposed to be getting ICE and we may not want to go out tomorrow.  Sure hope we just get snow.

Hope your day is a happy one.

If you are cold, tea will warm you;
if you are too heated, it will cool you;
if you are depressed, it will cheer you;
if you are excited it will calm you.

Today's Three Thankful Things
  1. My ice grippers.  I'm thankful for these every day there is ice.  Without them it would have been another walk in the basement.
  2. Our 4 wheel drive truck
  3. The trees covered in a coating of snow - beautiful.

Vee - Yes, I do drink tea and like it very much.  I'm not a coffee drinker though I do like the smell of it.

Deb - Yesterday I got the first book in the Cedar Cove series from the library and today I got book number 2.  Yes, I am listening to the first book Rose Harbor series.  I believe there are only two so far.

  1. Wegman's here in Columbia carries McVitie's, first place I have seen them in the US. You can also buy them on Amazon! We got hooked on them in England, perfect with tea!

  2. It's good that you have those ice grippers! Also, that four-wheel drive truck!

    I've found the McVities here. If you are ever near a World Market, that would be a good place to look. That is where I bought mine.

    Stay safe and warm!

  3. Glad you could get outside and walk today... Glad you do have the ice grippers!

    We woke up to fog this morning and it's been dreary and cloudy --and now rainy ALL day.... Yuk.

    Hugs,

  4. So nice you could walk outside - even in the snow. I may check at the library for Cedar Cove #1 or may just look for it when Charly and I got to a huge used book sale at the Arizona State Fairgrounds later this month. There should be lots of Debbie Macomber books there.

  5. That biscuit cake looks amazingly good. Your little dividing line is so cute! glad that you got out to walk today. Every day out is a blessing to you, I know. It probably is as much the fresh, clean air as anything.

  8. I never heard of these crackers but you can be sure I will check them out at our Wegman's. I bet you can also get them at Amazon. Amazon seems to carry everything, and if you combine the orders with something else - you can get free shipping.

    Or you can take a trip into your old neighborhood and combine a few things.
