Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Wednesday

This farm road along the Farm Loop beckons me to follow it.

The temperature was 41 degrees and cloudy this morning on my walk around the Farm Loop.  A sad sight passing by the dairy farm.  Just to the right of the cow looking over the fence in the picture is another cow standing.  She is looking over her baby that was born dead.  She was standing guard over it and whenever another cow would get near she would chase it away.  I stood watching for a little while with a little girl who was there.
After I walked passed the school I turned in this farm road by one of Farmer Marvin's barns (I asked and he said I could cut through).
 Went to the left around the barn and came out here.  That is the Drane house straight ahead and I turn left on the road which leads to one of the cemeteries.
And then back to the main street in town.  Walked through down and back home.
I walked 5.4 miles.

Ken went out to Lowe's this morning, but I stayed home this time.  Things around the house I just had to get done.

After lunch we went up to Happy Trails.  Ken worked on making the sides of the trailer bigger for our next load of stone.

I didn't do any work up at HT.  Just walked around enjoying being outside.  I sat for a time too.  : )
 We got back home just in time for a quick supper and headed out to church.

Home now to relax.  I'm going to have some chocolate marshmallow ice cream, watch a little television and do little knitting.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

Cows are amongst the gentlest of breathing creatures;
none show more passionate tenderness to their young
when deprived of them; and in short, I am not ashamed
to profess a deep love for these quiet creatures.

  1. Oh, I'm sad reading about that cow and her baby.:-( There is always something to do around the house, isn't there? It is hard for me to stay home when a trip to Lowe's is planned.:-)

  4. Hi Happyone, Even though you have shortened your walk you are still getting some fine photos. Sure like the one at the top of the farm road!

  5. That was sad about the calf. I know in dairy farming that male calves are usually dispatched straight away, so unkind to the mother. Even the heifers are taken off to live separated from the mothers.
    I love being outside too, just sitting and enjoying nature. Enjoy your ice cream.

  6. Hi, I have a friend who LOVES cows. I'm going to copy and paste the last quote --and send it to her...

    Looks like your area is getting springier and springier.... Looks good... I'm sure it's fun to be at Happy Trails also.

    We've been out hiking this week and searching for waterfalls. Had a wonderful time.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  8. Awwww...sometimes life is hard for everyone and everything, even cows. My daughter was in fourth grade...across the hall from my classroom when her teacher started roaring with laughter. He was reading her essay on her Social Studies lesson where she said trying to describe Hinduism, "Cows are people, too." Always makes me laugh, too, thinking about that.

  9. I read here the day you posted this, but I guess I only dreamed that I left you a comment. Don't you feel sorry for happenings like with the cow having a still born calf? Makes me sad. Your pictures are beautiful...as always.
