Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Another place to go kayaking

What a blessing to be able to walk here every morning
✼     ✼     ✼     ✼
58 degrees this morning and a mix of sun and clouds.  I walked the Farm Loop and around town.

Up ahead by the barn a black and white cat was crossing the street.  Can you spot it?  It hopped into the corn field when I got close.

I was walking along and the only thing I heard was my feet on the pavement.  I stopped and listened to the quiet.  So peaceful - I heard birds singing and mourning doves cooing and a rooster off in the distance.

A cow stopped eating to look at me through the fence.  This could have been another 'Good Fence' picture.
Saw three yard sales getting set up.  I just walked by.  Didn't want to see anything I NEEDED. : )

Another walk to enjoy.
I walked 6.2 miles.

I made pancakes for breakfast because we needed extra energy for kayaking today. We left soon after breakfast and this time went to the Youghiogheny River Lake with our kayaks.  Part of it is in Pennsylvania which is where we put our kayaks in because we knew there was a boat ramp there.  It runs down into Maryland too.  This is a big place and we paddled 2 hours up part of it and 2 hours back.  We had a break where we pulled up on shore and had lunch which was a couple of sandwiches that Ken made us.

In the morning it was very nice.  Just a few boats passed and it was fun getting in their wake and going up and down with the little waves.  On the way back there were quite a lot of boats going by and we had to be aware of what was going on.  It was not quite as relaxing though we did thoroughly enjoy ourselves.
Some pictures of our paddle down the river.
We will be back to explore more of it another day.
Of the three places we've been so far our favorite is the first place, Savage River Reservoir.

Now, I'm ready to just sit back and maybe read a little and later watch a little television and have a bowl of ice cream.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

  1. Walking in such beautiful countryside
  2. Living close to many waterways for kayaking
  3. Having a nice home to come back to afterward

  1. What a beautiful day you had; walking, and water, and warm inviting home too :)

Have a great weekend, my friend.

  2. I had to enlarge the picture to see the kitty. It must be nice to spend the day in the corn. It can get a little exciting when there are motorboats about. They'd better behave themselves!

  3. I just love the scenes you see on your walks.. The farm loop is pretty. The kayaking sounds like fun except for the fast moving boats. They would make me nervous. Enjoy your evening, have a happy weekend!

  4. Absolutely gorgeous setting! I love the fields where you walk beside. Also, I found a dime today on the grocery store parking lot, and I thought of you!

  7. You do live in a beautiful place. We've been in a beautiful place also this week--to the mountains of North Carolina. Such a gorgeous place to celebrate my 72nd birthday!!! I'll blog about it Monday.

Can't believe the name of that river... Indian???? We saw some strange names on our past 2 trips.. Can't pronounce them--muchless spell them.. ha

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  9. hi Karen! I am here today to say hi and I saw that little tip of a pink kayak. You are so fun. I have rested all week and my stats haven't changes. The blood test tomorrow will be interesting to see. But if they want me to do chemo 6 tomorrow, I am telling them no. I want another week of fun and doing stuff before I have that last 3 nasty weeks. I am not liking the numbers I have researched out. They have a website where I log on to just my records, stats, etc. Hmmmm, I don't like what I have seen. Ya, sure I am not a doctor but I can subtract numbers and see ranges of numbers and know what they mean. hummmmph!! Love being here! ♥

  10. Looks like a great place to paddle. I canoed the river in MD or PA years ago. Btw, I've watched many YouTube tutorials on proper paddling and they've improved my skills a great deal. I'm bringing my kayak to Stone Harbor, NJ tomorrow. Can't wait to paddle the marshes on the bay like I did last yarr.

  11. Hi there! I've been away for 9 days and have some catching up to do (in a lot of places) but thought I'd start with voting for a house name and also with checking out about your kayaking trip on the Yough.

What fun! Four hours of paddling - you two have strong arms and backs. We went for a short kayak outing while in Michigan on a beautiful lake. Later, I went sailing in a tiny boat with my friend Bev and we ending up capsizing a ways out and had to swim back dragging the boat! Not as much fun as the kayaking! I used to sail a lot but bigger boats. Art
