Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Walking path from the past

A chilly start to the morning with a temperature of 28 degrees.
But like yesterday it was sunny again.
Just a 4 mile walk around town first thing this morning
because I knew I'd be walking again later in the day.

Ken had a doctors appointment and it was down where we used to live
2 houses ago.
He dropped me off at the park in the town of Savage, Md where
we lived prior to 2009 for 14 years.

Take a walk with me along an old route.
It starts here in the park and goes along this
paved path.
There are various footbridges along the path through the woods.
The path pops out up by a school, I crossed a road and then continued
along the path and along here it is not paved and runs beside this river
for a while.
This part of the path goes under I95.
Up a ways I cross over the Pratt Bridge.
and stop on the bridge to look over the side down into the water.
This is where I used to turn around and it is 3 miles from my old house and
once again the path is paved.
Today I continue walking along the path.
The path winds its way around and I walked under these bridges
and when I come  out on the other side and there is Lake Elkhorn.
When I lived in this area sometimes I'd walk here and than around the lake
and Ken would pick me up because it was a bit far to walk here and then
back home again.
Today I walked around part of the lake and saw
some turtles sunning themselves on a log
and this mallard duck and her three babies which are kind of hard to see.
My friend Mary Jo lives near the lake and I walked over to her house
and waited there for Ken to pick me up after his appointment.
It was great to be able to walk around here once again and also
to see Mary Jo for a little while.
The walk was 6.5 miles.

Hope you enjoyed walking an old path with me today.

A happy day to you.

A fine landscape is like a piece of music;
it must be taken at the right tempo.
Even a bicycle goes too fast."

This is a beautiful area of Maryland. I lived in the Annapolis area for many years, before moving back home to KY.

We had a cold chill here so I'm not surprised it's that cold where you live

That was a lovely walk. Thanks for taking us with you. Wondering if you prefer living where you are now or would you like to move back to your previous town?

Nice to have a familiar old walk. I like that quote - and "the right tempo" is slow!

Good question. I love where she lives now. But I would miss the convenience of everything close.

Such a pretty walk. Lots of memories there, I'm sure. I love the turtles sunning themselves. A nice way to spend your time while Ken was at the doctor. I think you had the better of the two deals.

This was a wonderful walk, I especially like the little turtles sunning on the log . . . so cute. I'm a turtle nut, LOL. When I was a little girl I shared a bedroom with my big sister. Her bedtime was much later than mine and she tells stories of having to check the bed for turtles before climbing in. We lived near a lake and I was always bring turtles home.
