Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Saturday's Critters

Linking up with Eileen for Saturday's Critters this today.
Took this a few days ago on a morning walk.
This kitty lives at the Day Care in town.

22 degrees this morning when I headed out on my walk at 7:00.
Today I made sure I had my ice grippers on my shoes.
No falls or even a slip today and the side roads were very icy.
Couldn't walk along the main road on the sidewalks because
NO ONE shovels their sidewalk and I don't want to walk in the road.
So I stuck to the side roads and just walked back a forth on them.
Could walk to the cemeteries but not around them yet.
Nice to see the sun come up this morning.
Didn't see anyone else out walking.
I did enjoy my walk today - So nice to be out walking in the snow
with the sun shining.  Everything is so pretty and well worth bundling up
and being outside.
Walked 6.2 miles

Well I put off doing the housework long enough this week
and got a good bit of it done this morning.

I've finished reading my last book of the year,
To The Bright Edge of the World by Eowyn Ivey.
Colonel Allen Forrseter leads a small band of men on an expedition
to the untamed Alaska Territory in 1885 for 6 months.
His wife Sophie stays at the Vancouver Barracks and waits for him.
She takes up photography while he's gone.
It is the book club selection for next month.
I liked the book a lot.

My goal was to read 50 books this year and this last one was
number 41.  I'll try again to make 50 this next year.
I'll keep my list of books for 2016 under the header
until I read the first book of 2017.

A happy day to you.

Vee - all the puzzles I've done this year so far are from the auction that Ken went to.
There are quite a few more too.  Thought I'd take a break and to the brand new one.

Nice snow photos. It must be so cold.

What a lovely sunrise! I didn't make my book goal either and read even few books than last year. Oh well. I still read quite a bit. You actually beat me by five books! You and Ken enjoy your New Year's Eve! Don't party too hardy ;-)

Hello, love the pretty sunrise. The kitty is cute. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy and safe weekend! I wish you and your family all the best in 2017, Happy New Year!

That sweet kitty sure looks like he's well fed with all the kids at day care! Enjoyed seeing his picture. I can't say that ice looks like a fun walk, but when I lived in Illinois in the late 70's I loved to walk when it was snowing. Somehow the snow turns a walk into magic. We always said it had to warm up to snow.

I remember how it was in the snow - so crisp and pretty and quiet. It does sound like a very lovely walk. Cute kitty. Have a Happy New Year!

It does get frustrating walking on the road in the winter, doesn't it.

Yikes! That ice is really glinting in the sunshine. It's too bad that the sidewalks are not taken care of. People didn't do them here either so the town does it now...for a price. The ice grippers really do work well and I like the way they sound on my cement floor in the garage. I could be a tap dancer! LOL

Hope that you and Ken are enjoying a wonderful New Year's Eve. Happy New Year to you both!

I've been really slack in visiting and I'm sorry. I did look back at some previous pictures and I love the snowy ones. WOW!! We haven't gotten any here in the lower elevations yet, but there's been some in the mountains. You take care and stay safe and warm! Happy New Year!

Hi Karen, Happy New Year! Hope you and Ken had a nice evening. Love your critter photo!
Thankfully you did not fall today. I do have a pair of ice grippers too. I must find them!
Our town is responsible for clearing the sidewalks. Sometimes they are clear, sometimes not.
You almost made it to your goal of fifty books. My reading definitely goes down in the warmer months. I would rather be outside.
It is nice here today so I am looking forward to a long walk.
Have a good day!

You are such an inspiration . . . you have more stamina and willpower than anyone I know. Bravo!!! Most people would never walk on those icy roads. I do hope that you carry your phone for safety.
Happy New Year!
Connie :)

Hi, Karen. I know I don't comment much but I ALWAYS visit. We haven't gotten any snow yet. It should be interesting to see how things are done in my new neighborhood. I talked with a neighbor today who said when snow or ice is predicted she parks on the other side of the building (the warm side) because it melts first. Ha. Good info. My condo faces the warm side of the building. I am getting back to walking (just like always) and today was the first day it wasn't a challenge. It felt good.
