Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Saturday's Critters and Quilt Barn #1

Eileen and I have been blogger friends for many years
and this is the first time I've participated in her Saturday's Critters post.
Here's Mr Rooster who lives at the Dairy Farm along my Farm Loop walk.
See lots more critters or post one of your own HERE.
🐓     🐓     🐓     🐓
Let at 6:15 this morning while it was dark.
65 degrees and misty for a while and then the sun came up and chased the clouds away.
Walked around the roads behind my house and then walked through town.
Then down toward Happy Trails.
Turned around and came back to town.
Walked around both cemeteries and all the roads around town.
Saw three deer bouncing along through the soy bean field at Farmer Marvin's farm.

No people around this early Saturday morning.
Walked 6.2 miles
Sunrise 6:54
Sunset 7:33
🚶     🚶     🚶     🚶
I've passed quite a few barns with quilt squares on them around where I live.
Went on line and found that there are 38 Quilt Barns in Garret County.
Today we drove around and found 9 of them and took pictures.
This first one is at the farm of Gary and Kate Fratz  which is about 4 miles down the road from our house and was the very first barn quilt in Garrett County.
Kate spotted us taking a picture and stopped using her weed eater and came over and talked to us a little while.  The family has been farming there for she said for 50 years.
The design is a LeMoyne Star and it was sponsored by Wilma Edwards.
Each Monday I plan on posting another picture of a Barn Quilt.
🚜     🚜     🚜     🚜
We were out during lunch time so we stopped at a little Amish cafe called
Heidi's and had lunch.

We also stopped at a flea market and looked around.
Didn't find anything for myself but did find this cute tiny little tea set for a friend.
It was only a couple of dollars and I just couldn't resist buying it for her.
I've just put the dough in the machine for pizza for our supper.
Ken is making us a pizza with garlic and fresh basil,
And I a really looking forward to it.

A happy day to you.

Thank you all for the comments on my haircut.  I do like it and plan to keep it short.  So easy to take care of.  Don't even need a comb.

Connie asked me,
Do you have any motivational advice for someone who needs to be more comfortable walking alone?  Here's a few things I've come up with.
  • Think of it as your alone time, a gift to yourself.
  • Take along a camera and look for things to take pictures of.  You'll see things you never saw before.
  • Learn all the streets in your town.  Then when someone asks for directions, you will be able to help them.  Funny story about that.  I was walking in Savage, Md where I used to live and a lady stopped me and asked how to get to Springfield, Va and got angry with me when I told her I didn't know.  Her parting words were, "Thanks for nothing."
  •  You will meet people in your town that you would never have met if you didn't walk.  You are more apt to say good morning to someone when you are on your own.
  • Wear a pedometer so you can see how far you've gone.  It will probably make you want to go farther the next day.
  • Watching the world awake to a new day is breathtaking at times.

Hi Karen, love the rooster photo and the barn quilt. I have noticed a few around here too.
I love the miniature tea set. Very sweet.
I made pizza last night and always make a large one so we have leftovers for the next night.
Great advice for walking alone. I walked alone for a few years before Chuck joined me for the last 20 or so. We have met so many people over the years while we were walking. You see so much more going at a slower pace instead of in a car.

That rooster looks just like a Bantam rooster I had as a child. His name was Johnny and he would sit on my shoulder, tuck his head under one of my braids and come along with me.

One of the houses up the street has two roosters often in their yard without nothing to keep them contained and nothing to protect them. I always wonder if anything happens.

You found the perfect subject for the critter post!
Your day sounds ideal to me. How fun that the owner of the quilt barn stopped for a chat.
That little tea set is so sweet.
Great tips for walking alone. I'll keep them in mind next time I take a walk. I'm still waiting for the temperatures to drop.

Being a quilter I love to see barns that display a quilt pattern, they also make the barns look so homey and welcoming. Your rooster is a beauty! When I walk I use my phone, it also records my steps as well as an app i use called Strava - its just great getting out and being active especially when the weather permits, Fall is the best! Have a great weekend!!
