Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

New recipe and my yard meadow

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿

68 degrees this morning, no breeze and it felt damp.  Thought it would rain but it never did and later in the day the sun came out.

Walked through town, down past the HT turnoff a ways and then turned around and headed back to town.  In the picture on the right I'm walking up the hill to town.

On the way to one of the cemeteries down by the Drane house I pass by the town pond.  I've been watching a geese family grow up and now you can't tell the babies from the adults anymore.  They were all together but when I walked by the all started to scatter.

I didn't see any people out walking or bike riding today.  Kathy's car was in the parking lot by the pond but we didn't run into each other today.

Walked 6.4 miles.

I was glad to get some ironing done this morning that I was putting off.  For quite a while now when I iron I watch I Love Lucy Shows.  Today watched an hour long episode when they lived in Connecticut and Tallulah Bankhead becomes her neighbor.  Pretty corny but still funny.

Made a new recipe, Ditalini and Bean Soup.  Made it this morning and we will have it heated up for supper.  Soup always tastes better the second time around to me.
 Here's the recipe.
2 Tablespoons Olive oil
2 cups cooked cubed ham
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
6 cups water
28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
2 cans northern beans
1 Tablespoon fresh parsley
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 box of Ditalini, uncooked

In 5 qt pan, heat oil and saute ham, onion and garlic until onion is tender.
Stir in water, tomatoes, beans, parsley, and pepper.
Heat to boiling.
Reduce heat and simmer, covered 10 minutes to blend flavors.
Return soup to a boil.
Add Ditalini and boil, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes or until Ditalini is tender.

Had a few spoonfuls  when I first made it and it was very good.  Easy and fast too, so I'm sure I'll be making it again.

A while back I said I was going to turn a small part of the back yard into a meadow.  This is what it looks like so far. Will probably be making it a bit bigger or have another in the side yard.
After supper is my book club meeting at the library.  I'll walk there and Ken will pick me up and we will go to church.

Didn't get to work outside today but will try to get some more work done tomorrow.

A happy day to you.

We've got 2.5 acres, so I just refuse to mow it all. As a result we've got quite a lot of meadow, and I really enjoy it. Lots of 'flowers of the field' (what others call weeds).

Great idea to make part of your yard a meadow. I am sure the birds and insects will love it.
Your soup sounds delicious! Chuck and I are vegetarians so I would just leave out the ham. I have a soup recipe we love that is quick and easy too. It is always better the second time around!

So much nicer to see meadows than so much yard that is just green grass.

We did enjoy soup for supper.
I do enjoy having a yard. We used to live in a town house and I really missed having a yard.

I'm sure the soup would taste good without the ham too.

It is very easy to make and it was good. Lots of left overs with just the two of us too.
