Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

LIttle things mean much

☁     ☂     ☂     ☂
It was 44 degrees this morning when I left at 6:35 on my walk.  It was dark and before long there was a very light sprinkling of rain.  Very light so that I didn't even get wet, just a bit damp.

First went to public works and dropped the water bill down the slot and then headed over to the Post Office and mailed the rest of the Christmas cards that I wrote out yesterday.

Walked around town on no special route, just making up my mind which way to go as I walked along.

The oldest gravestone in one of the cemeteries is 1829 where James Drane from the Drane house is buried and his is the most primitive marker.
These two are the most fancy with scenes sketched on them.
Pretty quiet around town, didn't see any one else out.
I walked 5.6 miles.
Found a dime.

Some Christmas cards have been trickling in during the past week.  I think a lot of people have stopped sending cards out, but I still like to do it.

Wanda, one of the prisoners I write to and the most regular one who writes back to me sent me this bookmark that she crocheted in a Christmas card.  : )  She wrote,  "I know this isn't much but Merry Christmas."  Little things like this are much and it touched my heart. : )
I've mentioned that the women at church get together and we make blankets for the babies born at the local hospital and today was one of those days. They make them out of fleece with ties around the edges.  They are very soft and nice but I didn't enjoy making them, so I had to be different : ) and I make the blankets out of weave-it squares.  Since they are for new borns the blankets are quite small so I only have to make 70 squares for a blanket.  Shown here is one half of a blanket finished.
When I left this morning I had mentioned to Ken that when I get home I had to clean his bathroom.  What a nice surprise when I got home to find that he had already cleaned it. : )

It's been raining all day but supposed to turn cold tonight so it might turn into snow so we shall have to see.  I may be walking in snow tomorrow!

Hope your day has been a happy one.
happyone : )
Oh for the good old days
when people would stop Christmas
shopping when they ran out of money.

What a lovely, thoughtful gift Wanda sent you. Your blanket looks snuggly and warm. How wonderful you make them! I, too still like to send Christmas cards but have noticed many people don't anymore.
Take care.

Hello,

The gravestones are so pretty, lovely scenes. Your baby blanket is pretty, that is so nice of you and the ladies at church to make these baby blankets. I hope we do not get any snow! Have a great evening and weekend ahead!

That blanket is going to be beautiful (it already is!) We have not had one flurry here so far this year....very strange! Maybe that will change this weekend :)

I think my wife mailed all the Christmas cards we were going to send out.

I like to send Christmas cards out as well. I think life can become too impersonal if we do it all on technology.

Now you have me wondering if snowflakes are flying in your area. I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to find out :).
Wanda's gift is so thoughtful and, I believe, heartfelt. Those are the best gifts in my opinion.
How thoughtful of Ken to beat you to the punch on the bathroom cleaning.
Your baby blanket looks so soft and warm. Such a kind thing for you and your fellow church friends to do, especially at this busy time of year.

What blessings you received today - a crocheted book mark, making a baby blanket and a clean bathroom. I love walking through graveyards and reading the stones. Have a blessed evening.

You received some thoughtful gifts! Ken is a keeper. I shall be checking in on you tomorrow to see if there was snow. A steady rain all day today just above freezing, thanks be to God.

Great post! I know you will cherish the crocheted bookmark, given by a grateful recipient of your thoughtfulness throughout the year. I like your baby blankets. Good idea to make the ones you like making. They've been much appreciated by many moms!
Thanks for showing the beautifully etched tombstones.
We're going to have a balmy Christmas. Wonder if yours will be white? MJ

The bookmark is a sweet gift. I like that you create the blanket that is a joy for you to make. That quote is so true.
