Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Day Twenty-Nine of Thanks

Giving Thanks Post Day Twenty-Nine
Church and Church Family

I am VERY thankful for my church
and church family.
When we moved here two years ago,
we set about finding a church for us to attend.
We attended a few and they were good churches
but just not the right one for us.
Then we walked into a church
and right away we knew this was the right one.
We felt most welcome by everyone
and even before we sat down we had met
Pastor Leatherman and his wife Kathy.
(I've written a thankful post about Pastor earlier in the month)
It wasn't just that the people were friendly and kind
but it was a Bible believing church.
We joined it in the beginning of December 2013
and have never looked back.

We don't live near any family
so our church family is all the more important.
They really are like family
and I feel that I have known them for many years.
I am so very thankful that God led us to this church.

Matthew 18:20
For where two or three are gathered together in my name,
there am I in the midst of them.

Hebrews 10:25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another and so much the more
as ye see the day approaching.

Ephesians 2:19
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners,
but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.

A blessed Sunday to you.
Jesus loves you.

A popular thing nowadays are these megachurches. We have a few around the area but the biggest is one called Newspring. It has several campuses where most of them have their own "pastor" but they watch the official pastor on a TV screen when he does his thing. If I was still a Christian, I'd probably be at my old Methodist church. It was small enough where everyone knew most everybody.

I did miss my old church for the community aspect, so I eventually found the Unitarian Universalist Church. It was a merger a few decades ago from older churches. Classic Unitarians rejected the Holy Trinity and would believe a more Judaic view of God as one individual. Universalists believed that God's love was universal and generally rejected people going to hell for not believing. The modern post-merger church is now a place with a lot of deists, agnostics, and even atheists. Some UU places use the term fellowship instead of church.

But everyone at the UU church is very welcoming. My wife and I got married there by the minister before she moved to New York state. We had a lot of church friends attend our wedding and some gave us very generous wedding gifts.

Since I've been following you I recall several times you've mentioned Pastor Leatherman and your church. The Pastor sounds so interesting that I wonder if it is possible to listen to any of his sermons online? Many churches today are streaming the Sunday sermons.
