Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

The Valley

This was an insert in the bulletin at church today.

The Valley

I have been through the alley of weeping,
The valley of sorrow and pain;
But the "God of all comfort" was with me.
 At hand to uphold and sustain.

As the earth needs the clouds and the sunshine,
Our souls need both sorrow and joy;
So He places us oft in the furnace,
The dross from the gold to destroy.

When he leads through some valley of trouble,
His powerful hand we can trace;
For the trials and sorrow he sends us
Are part of his lessons of grace.

Oft we shrink from the purging and pruning,
Forgetting the Husbandman knows
The deeper the cutting and paring,
The richer the cluster that grows.

Well he knows that affliction is needed;
He has a wise purpose in view,
And in the dark valley He whispers,
"Hereafter thou'lt know what I do."

As we travel through life's shadowed valley,
Fresh springs of His love ever rise;
And we learn that our sorrows and losses
Are blessings just sent in disguise.

So we'll follow wherever He leadeth,
Through pathways be dreary or bright;
For we've proof that our God can give comfort,
Our God can give songs in the night.

Hi Karen, I sure enjoy going back and looking at your older posts now that I’m doing most of my blogging once a week. I don’t do this for many blogs but your blog is so interesting I don’t want to miss any of it. Here are some things I really liked over the last week: Story and picture of the little red plane and mist over the little town pond on Aug 22, purple flowers on Aug. 25, the yellow black-eyed flowers on the 26th, tomato salad looked so good, wagon of pumpkings at Farmer Bill’s on the 28th, wonderful looking pizza on the 29th. Congrats on all the neat photos and the progress up at HT. Wishing you a fine week ahead.

Whoever wrote that verse did a really fine job with it. Hope that Sunday was wonderful for you, and today as well. Back to work for me today, but happy to have a job since I need one for now! :^)

Thank you. This is a period of life full of trouble, strife, and sorrow for us, it seems over and over. When one seems to ebb, another rises in its place. I needed to hear this poem today.
