Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

A busy day

☃     ☃     ☃     ☃
It's been a busy day today starting with my morning walk.
It was 19 degrees this morning, cloudy and no breeze to speak of.  Started my walk up the three hills behind my house.  The street in the picture runs parallel to my street and is off one of the hill streets.

Walked around one of the cemeteries, down the main road towards Happy Trails turned around and headed back to town.  Walked around town and then back home.

I walked just under 6 miles at 5.8.

Right after breakfast we made a stop up at Happy Trails to check things out.  We have been driving around with the Christmas tree in the back of the truck and and threw it out there at HT.

Then we were off to Uniontown, Pa. for the day.  Stopped in a few stores and went to the mall there.   The other day I broke another drinking glass which left us with only two glasses of a blue set and today we bought an 8 glass set.
A stop in Target and I came out with a new purse.  I may have mentioned I have a thing for purses and love getting a new one.  I've already moved into it.  The two outside pockets are perfect places for my phone and camera.
Left Michael's with two huge hanks of white and blue baby yarn.  I've decided to make the sweater for the baby shower in blue instead of the yellow.  So have ripped out the yellow and have started the sweater over.

Lunch time we stopped in Olive Garden and had the all you can eat soup, salad, and bread sticks.  Being there I thought of you Mary Jo and remembered all the times we've been there together. : )

When we got back home I had to finish reading the book for the book club meeting and finished it in time for that at 5:30.  Walked to the library for that.  The book we read was The Third Hill North of Town by Noah Bly. It was a real page turner with surprise after surprise.  It's about a 54 year old woman who walks out of a mental hospital one day in June with one purpose in mind, to go back home.  She meets a shy black boy and picks up a second boy hitch hiking and they become traveling companions.  The next two days things happen that you just can't imagine.  The book is a a crime novel, a tragedy, a dark comedy and an action-adventure story all rolled into one book.  There is a good bit of violence in it but I thought the book was excellent.  All of us liked the book and we had a lively discussion.

Ken picked me up from the library and off to church we went.  Once back home I had my ice cream, while watching an episode of Upstairs, Downstairs and started knitting the blue sweater.  Then I hopped on the computer to write this post and now it's time for me to go to bed.  Good night one and all.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

  3. I have a thing for purses, also, Happyone! :) My husband deserves some type of award for going purse and wallet shopping with me before Christmas. :)

  5. I'm jotting down this title to remember next time I'm out shopping for books. It sounds like one I would enjoy. Thanks for the summary and recommendation.

  6. I love the photo with the berries against the snow. That was a good idea to toss the Christmas tree - good cover habitat for rabbits and other small beasts. That book sounds good. And I can see that new purse being really versatile. Lots of options! Art
