Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Monday

A picture from the other day when we still had snow.
✼     ✼     ✼     ✼
A very warm morning for the first of December at 54 degrees.  I walked out the door at 6:35 and just as I got to the driveway, it started to rain.  So I turned around went back inside and changed into my rain pants and slicker and started out again.  It's a good thing I went back to change because it rained the whole time I was walking.

I had a zigzag of a walk all over town and could not map it out if I tried.  I went up and down and all around town.  Didn't see anyone else out walking.

Nothing out of the ordinary this morning, just a nice walk listening to the rain.  I dropped a book off at the library in the return slot.  It was a book I was going to read for my book club, but I didn't like it so I decided not to read it.

Last month I was pretty lucky finding coins on my walks.  1 quarter, 3 dimes, 1 nickel, and 11 pennies for a grand total of 71 cents.  I've added the coins to the others I've found over the years.

I walked 6.5 miles.

Baked the last batch of Welsh cookies for the Drane House cookie sale.  Now just have to bring them over to Sherry's on Friday and then of course on Saturday I'll go and check out all the other cookies and come home with a nice variety.

Last week at church I was talking to a friend Caroline and she mentioned that she'd never had a pair of mittens.  So I decided to surprise her and last week I knitted her a pair of pink mittens and gave them to her yesterday.  She was very surprised and she gave me not one hug but three of them.  I didn't know it but pink just happens to be her favorite color. It was so much fun surprising her.  If  you want to see the mittens, you can see them HERE.
Someone overheard and asked me it I'd make two pair of mittens for her granddaughters so this week I'll be knitting those.

The wires hanging from the television have been really bothering me lately.  It just looks so messy.
So I took this bookcase in the dining room with some of my Fiestaware on it, relocated the Fiestaware,
and moved the bookcase under the television.  Put the VCR and the cable box on top and used the bookcase as a bookcase.  Much better now that I don't have to look at the wires.
I'm in the process of rearranging a few other things around too.  Getting a space set for the Christmas tree which we will probably go get one day soon.  We decided to go with a real one this year.

It's still warm out and we've had a rainy day all day.  I wonder how much snow we would be getting if it was cold out.  I'd rather be getting the snow.

We'll I'd better get back to work.  We will be heading out to Brenda's for pizza later for half price pizza Monday.

Hope your day has been sunny and bright.

  1. How thoughtful of you to knit those mittens! That was a real surprise to your friend. I'd love to be at that cookie sale!:-) We have clouds here today, and the chance of showers every day this week. Temperatures are expected to reach the sixties, too, so there will be no snow around here.:-)

  2. Very good decision on moving the bookcase under the TV. Hand knitted pink mittens for the lady, what a wonderful surprise! You really are something else!

  3. If the world were filled with Karens, it would be a happier place. It always touches my heart to read about the people you surprise with your kindness and it also reminds me of how blessed I have been to be the recipient of your thoughtful surprises.
I think your idea to move the bookcase is a good one. Those cords make me crazy. I have a whole box of them that we are keeping (just in case). I'd love to secretly toss them in the trash.

  4. That bookcase does make a nice difference. We have the same problem, but haven't figured out what to do about it.

You are having the weather we had over the weekend. Get ready for a cold day coming. It was brrrrrr today! That was a perfect reuse of the book case. It makes a big diff... More balanced.

  6. Using my email to write this comment. (I am still having huge problems leaving comments at your blog and a number of others. It's not you; it's this iPad.) All this to say that I have read all your posts, sometimes a number of days at once, but all of them.

Great solution to the wires. It looks very nice that way. I have a number of cords that drive me bonkers and I must come up with a solution.

You're going to have a mitten ministry!

  7. Your picture of the day today is one of the most breathtaking pictures I've ever seen in my life. WOW. Looks like something straight out of a Walt Whitman poem...

  8. That first picture is beautiful, makes me homesick for Sweden even. . It's raining here in California today, a much needed rain for us. A walk in the rain sounds wonderful and I will get out in it too, but no 6.5 miles for me, just a couple. I will go and check out the mitten now.

  9. Hi Happyone, I'm impressed with the work you did to hide the wires to the TV. It looks great now and I can understand why you found it a little annoying before your change. You must have used some wire ties to get the wires to all look like just one wire ... Very nice work! I love that first picture today! I agree with the comment by Optimistic Existentialist. I have to ask a question: In the summer, do you ever sit on that bench for a while and relax? It just looks like a wonderful place to sit. Have a great day. John

  10. I love the snow pictures. So beautiful! I love the new look for your family room with the relocated bookshelf. Looks so nice and neat and homey :-) I missed a couple of your posts for the past few days, but I am very thankful for your blog because you have really a good long-distance role model for me with your positive and upbeat attitude. Reading your blog certainly makes my day. So glad I had a chance to stop in for a visit today! Have a good one!

  12. What a pretty snow picture. The colorful Fiestaware brightens up a space. The shelves were a nice fix for the dangling cords.

  13. What a lovely scene at the frozen pond!

What a nice gesture, to make mittens for your friend, and now for the other person's granddaughters. :)

Visible wires are an annoyance, aren't they? You certainly improved the space under your TV.
