Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Cookies

The Cookie Sale at the Drane House
✼     ✼     ✼     ✼

Once again it was a rainy morning for walking and it was really warm at 46 degrees.  It is unusual for it to be this warm.  I got up late and didn't leave until 7:15 and wanted to be back home at 8:00 so I only got a 3 mile walk in this morning.

Walked around town and as I was walking down the main street I saw Santa Claus walking to the fire house.  He said Good Morning and invited me to the have breakfast with him in the Fire Hall. That doesn't happen every day. : )

Walking up the hill to the cemetery by the Drane House I saw Judy on her way to help get the cookies set up for the sale.  She stopped her car and said hi and I told her I'd see her in a little while when I came to buy some cookies.

I found a nickel and a penny.

Wanted to be home at 8:00 so we could be at the Drane House right at 9:00 to get a good selection of cookies.  Cookies are for sale from 9 - 2 but they sell out pretty fast.
We picked out a nice selection of 2 dozen.  Yummy!
Instead of spending another inside baking and listening to the rain we took a ride down to La Vale and went in a few stores and eventually ended up at the mall.  Even for Christmas the mall was a LOT less crowded than a mall on a regular Saturday afternoon where we used to live.  It was funny to hear people complaining of the crowds. : )

I've been trying to find Christmas cards that I like for a week or so.  Trying to find cards that have something to do with Jesus since the day is about Him.  Most of the cards don't even say Merry Christmas but Happy Holidays.  Today I found some in the Hallmark store where they had a lot of Jesus Christmas cards.  They were having a sale, buy one box get the second one half price so we picked out two kinds that we liked.
Now I just have to make a list and write them out. : )

So another day of rain.  Even I need sunshine once in a while. : )
Hope your day is a happy one.
happyone : )
I think cookies are sort of the unsung sweet, you know?
They're incredibly popular.
But everybody thinks of cakes and pies and fancier desserts
before they think cookies.

Dianna - Wow, we really are neighbors. : )  We'll have to meet up for lunch one of these days.  I wrote a post about making the Welsh Cookies which you can find HERE.  On that page is a link to the recipe.  The post is from last April and we were still living in Howard County.

  2. How exciting to be invited to breakfast by Santa himself! The cookie sale looks like a great success! I'm glad you found Christmas cards that were pleasing to you. We had a lot of rain over the night and this morning. Only a few glimpses of sun this afternoon, and the clouds have returned.

  3. The cookie sale sounds like a great success.. And they all look delicious! We have had rain all day today, very dreary... I would think the stores wish they are crowded now, this is probably when they make a lot of money.. Enjoy your evening and the rest of your weekend.

  4. Oh those hauling home the Christmas tree cookies are so cute! Are they tasty, too? I laughed out loud at Santa inviting you to breakfast...such a charming small town view you share with us.

  5. Lunch one day sounds great! :) Thank you so much for sharing with me about the Welsh cookies! My curiosity will get the best of me before long and I'll have to give them a try. I love it that they are baked on a griddle! I find that many "sweet treats" coming from that area of the world really aren't sweet in and of themselves. I love it that way!

How fun to be invited to breakfast by Santa! Now that is something that doesn't happen every day! ;)

I understand what you are saying about the rain...I was about to complain about it earlier today when my husband said, "Guess we can be glad it isn't snow. We'd look like Buffalo NY did a couple of weeks ago." Hmmm...guess he has a valid point. :)

Have a joyous Lord's Day tomorrow.

  10. How fun that you met up with Santa. Those cookies look wonderful and very tempting. I imagine you can eat as many as you like since your have such a great walking program going on. It's inspiring for me as I take my dogs out and hike around the hills here.

  11. Hi Happyone, The cookies look delicious! And breakfast with Santa! Now THAT is a TREAT! I so agree with you about the Christmas cards. Somehow we've got to get back to what the "holiday" is all about. Have a good day! John

  12. Those cookies look so tempting. I always try and make some for Christmas but it takes so long with my small and unco-operative oven. I have to try and stop myself eating the dough too.

  16. Yummers on all those delicious looking cookies.
I agree it is hard to find a religious Christmas card and I just hate that people seem scared to say, Merry Christmas and have replaced it with Happy Holidays.
