Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Making a trail at HT

An old building down one of the side streets in town.
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
Though it was 35 degrees yesterday when I walked it was warmer than it was supposed to be.  This morning it was 45 degrees and once the sun was up a mix of clouds and sun and finally lots of sunshine.  I walked around town which includes the two cemeteries and loop around the ball park.

No people outside walking yet and just a few cars out on the main street.  Seemed less cars than usual.

A couple of rabbits were hopping about and I stopped to see the two rabbits that live where Lone Chicken used to live.

I walked 6.2 miles.
No coins yesterday but today I found a dime.

Right after breakfast we both went up to Happy Trails and spent the whole day there.  We brought lunch with us which was chicken sandwiches made with the left over chicken from Saturday.  We sat at the picnic table listening to the quiet.

Ken cut some trees down,  dug up stumps and carted them away and filled up holes in the road.

I continued making more of the trail from the cleared area up to the upper road.  Lined more of the trail from this part.
Cleared out brush and continued lining this part of the trail.
And finally reached the upper road.
Looking left from the top of the trail down the road to the wood shop.
Looking right from the trail down the road.
We cleared fallen trees and limbs up and down both ways along the road.   Ken did a lot of chipping the other day and today he dumped two tractor buckets full of chips and dumped it down at the start of the trail I made.  Then I put the chips down on the trail until I ran out of chips.  As you can see we need a lot more chips.
It was a full day of work but fun work.  The weather was sunny and I don't know what the temperature was but it was good for working.  About 3:00 we felt a few rain drops but they soon stopped and the sun came back out.  We left for home at 4:00 and on the way the rain came down pretty hard.  We timed it perfectly.

Since it is Monday and half price pizza day at Brenda's we went there for pizza again this week for supper.

Now we are home and I am ready to sit down and relax, watch a little television later and have some chocolate ice cream with left over cherry pie filling on top.

Hope your day was a happy one and you smiled often.

Reading about nature is fine,
but if a person walks in the woods and listens carefully,
he can learn more than what is in books.
for they speak with the voice of God.

Three Things That Made Me Smile Today
  1.  Walking through the leaves at HT
  2.  A picnic lunch
  3.  Finishing the trail up to the road
Comment Replies:
FurryGnome - no pictures train pictures lately because Ken hasn't been working on it.  Too many outside projects.  Once winter sets in, he will go back to it.

There's hardly anything nicer than a walk in the woods in fall. Nice to have your own trail to follow!

Autumn has come to your area - a very beautiful capture, looking down the road at the start of your post!
Looks like you are making great progress with the building of your trail.

I'm very impressed with the work both of you are doing at Happy Trails. Your walking path is really going to be something when you get it finished.

Brrr, that's a wee bit chilly for me! It does make for good working weather outdoors, though. I like your trail, and the colorful carpet of leaves.

Hi There, I love walking in Fall ---and hearing the leaves crunch under my feet. That is SPECIAL. I love what you are doing at HT.... Love your weather... We had a couple of mornings with cold temps --but it's milder now with RAIN. We finally have gotten quite a bit of rain here. Love it.

Hugs,
Betsy

I tried leaving a comment from up in Maine, but I see it didn't take. Your trails will be so cool when finished. It is such a nice property. I love looking down a trail and wondering what it goes to, what is around the next bend. Art
