Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Photo of the Day
A Goldfinch visits the bird feeder out back
❤     ❤     ❤     ❤
60 degrees this morning for walking with sun and clouds once it got light out.  I had a random walk all over the place.
The little pond in town which I walked around had a pretty reflection in the water.
This farm road goes between the two cemeteries.  I'm leaving one behind me and will turn left up ahead which will lead to the second one.  To the right and then straight would take me to a barn which is not a place I can walk to.
Walking around the loop behind the ball park I came across Rhonda again.  : )  She has been walking 4 days a week and I noticed she had a new pair of walking shoes.  I told her it was good to see her walking again and told her she was off to a very good start.

I also ran into Rebecca (Lena's daughter) and she was surprised when I said, "Good Morning Rebecca."  Her eyes got big and then I told her I talked to her mom. : )

I saw one other person out walking - a man and his dog and I saw Dave out in the yard with his dog too.

Seems lots of people were out and about town early this morning.  Felt like later in the day.

I walked 6.2 miles.
Sunrise - 6:54
Sunset - 7:34

Ken was getting more stone today up at HT.  All the fill that is needed is pretty much done and now the stones just have to be harvested and set in.

I'm home again enjoying the day.  Nice cool breeze throughout the house again.  This whole summer has been delightful.  We have never had the AC on this whole summer.

I've started reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt which is a book club selection for November.  It has over 700 pages in it so I'm glad I'm liking this book right off.  The goldfinch is a painting.

Hope your having a great day and you smiled often.

When people choose to withdraw far from a fire,
the fire continues to give warmth,
but they grow cold.
When people choose to withdraw far from light,
the light continues to be bright in itself
but they are in darkness.
this is also the case when people withdraw from God.

  2. You got a great shot of that goldfinch. They are such a pretty bird and I am always happy to see them.
It seems like any time I've read about The Goldfinch book on people's blogs, they always seem to like it. I buy most of my books when I find them at thrift shops. I have this one on my list.
No A/C all summer? Lucky you and how nice for the energy bills too. I think ours has run continuously since May or maybe even April. Can't wait til we can shut it off for a few months, however I am very grateful to have it as it is a lifesaver with the high humidity in these parts.

  3. Augustine is one of my most favorite people through all of history. This is the first time I came across that quote, though. It makes good sense, doesn't it?

  7. Love your little Goldfinch... We usually have a lot around here --but right now, there aren't too many.. They will come back though...

Great place to walk... I can tell how much you all are enjoying your new home... We have had our AC on about 15 days total this summer... It's been fairly nice here most of the summer. When we turn it on, it's usually because of the humidity instead of the heat...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  9. Great quote! I would have loved to see the look on Rebecca's face. :) Those little goldfinches are as good as sunshine.

  10. You have the most beautiful views on your walks. I love seeing them. Oh and I liked all the things you were thankful for. I've been reading a book this week that I'm really enjoying.

  11. Another nice goldfinch photo!

I don't know that we have turned the AC off, and most of the summer has been a little cooler than usual. It just gets so dang hot down this way. I am looking forward to fall quite a bit!
