Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Deck Work

I've published pictures of this pond before
but I love it early in the morning.
Can you spot the horse?

If I had to pick two words to describe the weather this morning it would be, delightfully refreshing.  The air was cool, the temperature was 55 and it was sunny with a slight cool breeze.

I walked down toward Happy Trails and turned around at the turn off and headed back to town, turned in at the farm road to say to the steer and then a random walk around town.

I saw Ken on the way to HT and then saw him again when he passed me on the way back.  I snapped a picture of him driving past.
He went to pick up some tools at HT and then went to pick up John.  More about that later in the post.

Walking around the lake where I used to live I used to see LOTS of geese but hardly ever see them here.  Saw some today though.  They were in a field up by one of the cemeteries.
Saw a couple of other people out walking but all were too far away to talk to.
It sure was a beautiful morning.
I walked 6.4 miles.

Thank you all so much for your prayers for Mr Harvey.  I will keep you posted on how he's doing.

Some time ago at church there was an auction to raise money for the teens.  People donated items to auction off, but also the teens offered to do 8 hours of work to the highest bidder.  One of the teens was John and Ken won him.  So this morning Ken picked him up and he helped Ken get started on taking the deck out back apart.
The work is about to get started.
A couple of hours into the job.
I made some chocolate chippers for the workers which was a big hit.  : )
Taking a break for some cookies.
Lunch time Ken took John to Annie's Kitchen up the street and treated him to lunch.

I walked over to the library and picked up the next months book club selection which is Purchased by Linda Spalding.  Hope this one is a good one.

I spent a bit of the afternoon out in the front weeding the upper part of the driveway where the roses are.  I made a good start on the garden up by the shed out back too.  There is always somewhere to weed.  I don't mind it though, especially on such a day as this, sunny and I don't think it made it out of the 60's today.  The weeds came up pretty easily too because of the last two days of rain.

At the end of the day this is what the deck or lack of deck looked like.  Those boards  are just sitting there lose, except for the board next to the house. John was a good worker and sure helped a lot.  I thank him because the work he did, would have been what I would have been doing!! : )
They quit work a little early and Ken took him up to Happy Trails.   Ken is out now driving John back home with some extra cookies.

Hope your day has been one of many smiles.
happyone : )

How nice to have help with such a big project.

Glad that you had a nice cool day to get some work done. Amazing how much we can accomplish when the weather co-operates :)

Have a great afternoon.

A lot of work got done today, and it seems like it was the perfect weather for it. Are you replacing the boards or doing something different altogether with the deck? Please forgive me if you already posted it somewhere and I missed it! I, too, have gotten behind in blog reading!

Delightfully refreshing sounds ideal to me. Although we have cooled off slightly, I am feeling a bit sticky after my walk tonight.
John looks like a good helper. The auction sounds like a great way to help the kids earn money and also hone some new skills. I'm sure those chocolate chippers and the lunch were greatly appreciated too.
I'm curious to see what will be replacing the old deck.

It's nice when folks help each other out - helps the world go around a bit more smoothly. My Wednesday was kind of stressful at work - tons of meetings which kept me from getting things done. I left work a little stressed but my wife took me out for a nice dinner for my birthday so that was a great way to end a too-busy day. In a few years, I will have my birthday off! :^) Art
