Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

My Thursday

One last picture of the farm.  The Shearing Shed. The garden from yesterday is just to the left.

64 degrees this morning and cloudy and every once in a while a light rain shower fell which kept me cool.  I walked the Farm Loop and around town once again.

I saw a rainbow but it was very faint and it didn't come out so good in the picture I took.
A little stream along the way.
The corn is growing nicely here and is now about 2 feet tall.  There are other corn fields around but the corn isn't as big yet.
I don't usually see Farmer Bill's steer because they are up on the upper field but today they were down where I could see them.  Here is one peaking at me through the weeds on the side of the road.
Back in town I saw Peggy again and we commented on how the sprinkling of rain was nice today keeping us cool.

It is usually pretty quiet around town but even more so now that school is out.
I walked 6.3 miles.
Found a nickel. : )

Since I just washed my car yesterday, I  didn't want to take my car to Cherry Hill today because it was raining when I had to leave so I went in the truck and took along some chocolate chip cookies.  That sounds like I took a whole truck load of cookies, but it was only a few dozen. : ) 15 people gathered around the room today to sing and hear a message. I think there are 22 residents who live there.  I get there a bit early and just sit and talk to those around me.

We have a dehumidifier down in the basement and it broke a while ago.  We went to Lowe's to get another one but the Lowe's closest to us didn't have one, so we went down to the one in LaVale and they had one.

While down in LaVale we stopped in a store we hadn't noticed before.  I don't remember the full name of the store but it had Surplus in the name.  It was like a big Harbor Freight only better.  It was mostly men stuff but there were also lots a planters, garden decoration stuff, and inside and outside Christmas decorations of all things.  It was a neat store just to look around at and we spent a lot of time doing just that.

The sun did come out later in the day but clouds were around too.  Down the mountain in LaVale it was 86 degrees but back home here it was only 74.   I was surprised there is that much difference just 30 miles away.

I am happy to say that the first pumpkins have sprouted in Ken's pumpkin patch. : )

Well, time to go get supper started - easy tonight - spaghetti.
I'm going outside after supper to do a little weeding.

Hope your day has been a happy one.
happyone : )

  1. Your views will be slipping away a little every day until the. orn is harvested in fall. I was just thinking that I used to be able to see to the lower road and now it is a wall of green.

A nickel! Good heavens! That is a good day.

Cherry Hill folks must have been very happy for homemade cookies. You're getting a 68% turnout! That is great!

  2. Sounds like a very fun and interesting store that you found in La Vale. I bet those people who live at Cherry Hill really look forward to your visits (and your cookies)! What a nice Thursday!

  3. I am glad you enjoyed your day! Sounds like you always have a lot going on. I was disappointed tonight because I was going to meet a friend for a walk right after work, but exactly when we met, a gigantic T-storm rolled in. Well, I have tomorrow off and will definitely get a walk in, just by myself. Have a great day. Art

  4. Hi There, I'm sure the residents at Cherry Hill enjoy chatting with you --and eating the cookies... That is a nice ministry you have.

It's also nice that you are writing letters of encouragement to the prisoners. That is also a great ministry.

Hope your new 'bird kitchen' area is doing well... I'm sure you will enjoy watching the birds!!!

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  7. I love that shot of the cornfield. That fog in the background just adds to the beauty of it.

  8. Love places like the store that you found. It's always so much fun to walk around and see what they have.

Nice that the pumpkins are sprouting!! Nothing beats a great pumpkin patch :)

Have a happy weekend, my friend.

  9. Nice composition on your shearing shed photo. :)

I bet that little stream had a nice sound to it.

I love seeing how fast the corn grows! Disappointed because most of our farms are growing soybeans this year...yet I know it's best to rotate crops.

Your photo of the steer looks particularly impressive when clicked on to view larger. How nice he came up to the fence to say 'Good morning.' :)

I would enjoy going through that surplus store. I looked up LaVale on Google maps and saw National Hwy/Old National Rd. (40) - that same road runs through our town. :)

Enjoy your cooler weather - elevation makes all the difference.
