Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A day out

It was only 10 degrees but I walked outside because there was no wind and I could see that the sun would soon be shining.  I walked the farm loop and then around town.

Farmer Bill was out on his porch and said good morning as I passed by.  He was the only person I saw outside.

I saw three Killdeers around the town pond but couldn't take pictures because the battery in my camera went dead.  When the battery goes dead, 'battery exhausted' flashes on the screen.  That always makes me smile.

I thought that the temperature must be moving on up because by the time I got home from walking I was hot and had taken my hood and ear covering off.  It did go up but not that much, it was only 14.

I walked 6 miles.

We went out for the day.  Right after breakfast we got in the truck and drove to Jeannette, Pa to see what it was like. It is a little more than 70 miles from home. There was a train shop there that Ken wanted to check out.  It was a long way just for that but it gave us a destination to go to instead of just going for a ride.  The old part of town was a bit depressing.  Lots of empty stores and businesses going out of business but Ken did buy some train stuff and there were a couple of antique stores that we went in.  I found a couple of blue plates to hang in the kitchen.
Out of town on the outskirts it was all built up with the usual stores and restaurants that are everywhere.  We spotted a Red Robin and went there for lunch.  It is the first one we have seen since moving.  We used to go to the one where we used to live all the time.  They have the best fish and chips and both of us ordered that.
While we were eating Ken said we should look for a JoannFabrics while we are here.  I happened to look out the window and one was right there.  We each got a few things from there and then went to Barnes and Nobles and looked around there too.
We didn't get back home until supper time.

It was a lovely day out.
But is was nice to get back home again.
Hope you enjoyed your day too.

I have always thought that the best thing about going away somewhere was coming back home!:) I'm glad you were able to walk outside today. This is March, and the weather should really begin to moderate some if we are ever going to have spring.:) I've not noticed fish and chips at the Red Robin here. I will have to look the next time I'm there. I think I'd still be at Barnes and Noble.:)

I love that you just get in the car and go. It must be nice, especially now that you live in a small town. I know that if I did, I'd love to come across a JoAnne's or a Starbucks. Something familiar. Talking about familiar, if you and Ken ever come to 'town', I have a guest room! And our familiar could be Ram's Head. I'm overdue for fish tacos!

Say hi to Ken for me.

PS. I put small rocks in a container and shake it when Sparky barks. It's helping!

Sounds like a nice day trip. I love the "new" blue plates. See you again tomorrow. P.S. Boy you are sure getting a lot read this winter. I am jealous. I am taking some classes and my reading has really slowed down.

That's the only thing that is hard about living in a small town----you have to DRIVE to find some of the things you need or want.... We have the same situation --but I still love our small town!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

Hey why have you stopped writing three things that made you happy? I used to like them.
You had a great day! Awesome!
