Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Inside out of the cold

A basement walk for me this morning.  I walked almost 5 miles and listened to ELO and The Traveling Willburys.
It's been snowing like crazy here and the temperatures are heading down as the day goes on.

I finished reading my first book this year.  It was The Midwife of Hope River by Patricia Harman and I though it was very good.  It was a page turner for me.  It's about Patience Murphy working as a mid-wife during depression in the Appalachia mountains of West Virginia.
The author lives in Morgantown, WV and works at a clinic there with her husband which is about 35 miles from where I live.

I also finished transferring all my Bible notes from the old Bible to the new one.  So nice to be done with that.  It took a lot longer than I expected it to.

Started another book, W is for Wasted by Sue Grafton.  It was another of my Christmas gifts.

I walked down the end of the driveway to get the mail and it was mighty cold outside.  The temperature was 8 and very windy with snow blowing sideways.

Did a little counted cross stitch this afternoon and now it's about time for me to make supper.  We are having meatloaf, roasted potatoes and beans.  Having the oven on will help to keep it warm and cozy in the kitchen.  Sure am thankful for a nice warm house, even more so on days like this.  Just checked the thermometer and it read 4.  They say it will get down to -18 by morning.  I've never been in a temperature that cold before.  Guess I won't be walking outside in the morning!

Hope you're staying warm if you are in the wake of this blast of cold.
A happy day to you.

Send some snow to us - here we have nothing left - only rainy days...

That is COLD! It is a little chilly here today. I needed a sweater to walk outside. The sun is shining brightly. I have lived in cold, snowy places before, and that was a big reason we moved to Arizona, but now we are thinking about and planning a move (in several years) back to be by family in a snowy climate. I am going to see if I can get that book you read from the library. I am reading a Christmas gift book right now too. It is called The Happiness Makeover and it is about being happy! Stay warm and cozy. Meatloaf for dinner sounds great!

P.S. I looked the Midwife book up on Amazon...sounds like one I would enjoy so I put it on hold at our library. Will go pick it up tomorrow! Thanks for the recommend.

I will say that you made a wise decision to walk indoors this morning! There may be more of them in the future.

You have had a productive day! Meatloaf baking would surely give the house a very welcoming aroma!

Stay safe and warm!

The weather here is awful too. I will be glad when it warms up some.

So cold!! You'll have to let us know the temperature with the wind chill. Right now it feels like -2° here. I don't like that one bit. I'm very thankful to have shelter. I wish I could say my house was warm. I think I'll be plugging in my space heater tonight.

Happy trails, even if its in your basement :))

All right so -18F would be a damn killer!!!
Its between 40 and 50F at my place, and I feel really cold when I go outside.
I wonder how you even stay inside??
I hope you have lots of strong heaters :-)

It seems to be COLD everywhere right now. I'm bundled up in the house as our furnace, gas fireplace and hot water are not working. We're thinking it is a problem with the gas and are awaiting for the gas company to arrive. Also waiting for the dishwasher man to arrive. Oh the joys of home ownership :).
On to more pleasant topics...
I have always loved the music of ELO. Have one of their greatest hits CDs and listen to it in my car.
The book sounds like one I would love to read. Thanks for telling us about it. I'm going to check our library for it.
Stay warm. Your dinner sounds like just the thing on a frigid day.

Yes---as much as I love snow, I would love living where you live. BUT--we have had our winter blast here also this week. It was minus 10 degrees this morning and the little bit of snow we got (about 2 inches) is still with us… TOO cold to get out and enjoy it though.

Glad you can get your exercise at home during the bad weather.

Hugs,
Betsy

That's plenty cold enough, I would say, especially with the wind. We used to get weather like that up in Maine. 10 below was routine, 20 below not uncommon. We used to say "We have two seasons in Maine - winter, and last winter!" But I am no longer used to it as I once was. I am still amazed that part of Maryland is as cold and snowy as it is. Wow!
