Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

The mystery hole

Up and out early this morning once again for my morning walk.  50 degrees and just a little bit of fog around.  It didn't last long though and the sun was up and shining for most of my walk.
I walked around the farm loop and then around town.

Pretty quiet around the farms. The one lone chicken in town was eating french fries!!  I didn't even know they ate stuff like that.

No one was working on the barn yet this morning when I walked by but here's a picture of what they've done so far.
I walked 6.2 miles - 11,806 steps.
Forgot to mention yesterday that for the month of September I found only 11 cents.  A nickel and 6 pennies.

Back to Happy Trails for the day again.  Ken chipped more trees for me and I finished the trail down to the pond.  One trail done and many, many more to go.  : )

Now for that hole Ken was digging yesterday.  There is a natural spring there and Ken dug the hole to let the water come out faster. Today he collected a bunch of rocks and started making a sort of well.  The water is cloudy like that because he has been tramping through it putting the rocks in it.  He plans to put a couple more feet of rocks there and then back fill.  Some of the water will make it's way down to our little stream in a little trench that he dug.  That will get lined with rocks too.  This is a project in progress and may take a little while.
We cleared a little more trees and brush and our cleared area is slowly growing.  Ken did most of the work.  I burned a lot of small branches and dead wood in our fire barrel.
I also sat in a chair and read a little too. : )

We got back to the house around 4:00.

It's been another fun day up at Happy Trails.

Betsy - No, I've not been to the park but have been to Thurmont many times.  We used to live about an hour away from there.  Now we are about 2 hours away.

The rocks around the spring look very neat. Good job. Mary Jo

I like the spring and the rocks around it. Remember that each coin you see or find reminds us that "In God We Trust". So that 11 cents is above price.

Oh, how lovely! You will have some water running through Happy Trails! That's funny about the chicken eating french fries! The best thing to feed chickens is corn, though. Someone else may have a different opinion on that.

oh I envy you the smell of wood burning... Sounds as if you guys have the best of both worlds and all without the travel. A spring...very nice.

The water project will keep you busy for awhile.

I love the clouds in the first 2 pictures. Just beautiful!

How cool to have a natural spring on your property. I like what Ken is doing with the rocks.

Our chickens used to eat most of our garbage....table scraps, etc. The only things left would be corn cobs, melon, orange and grapefruit rinds. They pretty much made quick work of all the other stuff. Of course this was in addition to feeding them regular chicken feed (corn) and laying mash. We had LOTS of chickens and I ended up taming a rooster for a pet....named him Roostie. He would even swing on the swings with me. Ahh...good memories!

I wonder if they gave that chicken real maple syrup with the French toast? ;^)

I am glad you got to work at and enjoy your retreat for a while.
