Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Back to blogging

Hi I'm back to blogging again.  We have had internet for some days now and though there is still a lot to do, things have slowed down enough now for me to resume blogging.  Not only are we moving in we also decided to paint a few rooms.  The dining room is now painted and so is the living room which as I've said is going to be our library.
Here's a picture of when we first started.  I am standing in the foyer looking at the library into the dining room.  The green color you see looks a lot better in the picture than it does in person.  We have painted it the same gray color as we did in dining room.
We have some furniture in the rooms now, but not everything yet.  Part of the book shelves are still up in the shed and parts are still in the garage too.  I'll take more pictures when things are looking better.

We have been taking loads from Happy Trails and then unloading into the garage and then from there we bring things into the house.  The garage now has enough room in it that we were able to put both of our cars in it.  The other day I went for a ride in my car just to give it a run.  It had been a couple of weeks since I drove it.  So nice driving it around here with so much less traffic.

Though the house was clean looking on the surface there was still things that needed cleaning like windows and base boards.  I'm also washing clothes, blankets, towels and curtains that have gotten a bit musty being packed away.  I've lost count of the number of loads I've washed with still quite a few to go yet.

A big surprise to us was that the washer and dryer didn't convey so we had to go out and buy a washer.  Didn't even buy a dryer because as most of you know I don't use a dryer so it gave me more room in the laundry room.

Ken has made me a temporary clothes line on the deck until he can put a proper clothes line out in the back yard. : )  Just a note that within a block of my house I've counted 7 clothes lines.  Ah this is my kind of town.  One thing that I DO NOT  miss is living where there is a neighborhood association.  I know most people like them but I don't like people telling me what I can't do.   I guess we are the type of people who the neighborhood associations are trying to keep out. : )

We have also painted my office the same lavender color that I had at the townhouse and I feel right at home here.
Eventually we will end up painting all the rooms.  At first we thought we liked all the colors but once here realized we didn't.  Also the paint is semi gloss and we prefer flat paint.  It's been work but fun making the house our home.

Of course I've been walking each morning and have one basic route mapped out which is 6 miles.  I'll be mapping out different routes as time goes by.  There are no paths to walk but the roads are like wide paths and most times only a car or two passes by.  Here are some of the roads I've been walking along.

This morning I started checking out churches and I am happy to say Ken came along with me. : )  This first church was a pretty little church and friendly too and I had a good feeling at first.  But I missed singing the old hymns and they didn't have a choir and I really enjoy the music part of worship so I was a bit disappointed.  The first half of the sermon was okay but it was just too long and the pastor kept going off on tangents.  This church just made me miss my old church so next week we will try a different one.

Well I guess I've rambled on long enough for today.  It's nice to be blogging again.
Enjoy your day.

Peace..... it's just a prayer away.

You are getting your new home all freshly painted and cleaned. Like you I would NOT like a neighborhood association telling me what I can and cannot do. The worst is when they say how much your dog can weigh! I have never lived where there is a neighborhood association. I pray God will send you to the right church for you. I found a new church for me in 2012, and prayed to find it.

Oh my! You're a whirlwind! So much accomplished. Things are looking pretty spiffy. Enjoyed reading about your preferences in churches and neighborhoods. =D

Oh! I am so happy to read a post from you! It sounds like you are making such good progress! Moving is definitely a real undertaking! We moved ourselves the last two times we moved, and this last one was almost more than I could take.:-)

I hope you will find a church that is right for you very soon. Music is such an important part of worship for me, too.

Welcome back, Karen! You are sure getting a lot done! All that painting and moving and still time to walk six miles a day! Good for you! Hope you find a new church home soon! It is so important and sustaining to meet with other Christians each week to pray, sing, praise and strengthen one another. So glad Ken came with you. Have a great week. Again, so glad you are back!

So good to see you back to blogging.
You two have been working hard and the house is shaping up nicely.
The new walking routes looks so nice and what a bonus to have less traffic!

WEll, we miss you bunches, of course. But I am glad you are getting settled. It doesn't surprise me that you are painting.

I had to laugh about your comment regarding community association. Up until now I have been fine with them, but recently we have requested more light on the common area steps - the community has grown up and the lighting is just not that good anymore. I am getting push back. So I am annoyed. And now I can see how you must have felt with your laundry line - which was on your own property!!! Oh well. Glad things are going well for you.

Great to hear from you -and so good that you are getting all moved in and adjusting to your new home and life...

It's hard to find a new church especially when you LOVE the old one so much. BUT--keep an open mind and you WILL find one soon.

Your walking path sounds nice.

Congrats on everything.
Hugs,
Betsy

The roads really do look like wide paths. Have you looked at a satellite image of your area to get a different view of the lay of the land?

You're making your new house your home. I'm glad you're sharing the journey!
