Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Last day

Lots of rain last night.  It came down in sheets but was clear once morning came and I left on my walk.  43 degrees and very windy.  The sun came up and stayed out and there was lots of blue sky.

I walked towards the lake but the path behind the church was flooded and I couldn't walk that way.  So I turned around and and went back and then tried to walk on the road to the lake that runs on the other side of the stream but that too was flooded and I couldn't get through there either.
Took pictures but it was still too dark out and the pictures were too blurry.
I then tried walking my route along the paths and had to turn back a few times there too because of flooding.  I came across sections like this that I couldn't walk through.  What now looks like a lake is usually a little stream.  I didn't have to walk down to the water today, it came up to me!
I saw and heard the birds but didn't see any other wildlife.  They took off to higher grounds.
One man who I see often was walking his two dogs and we stopped for a little chat about all the flooding and I saw Petey and John on one of the paths and walked along with them for about a half mile.

When I left this morning Ken told me to be careful of falling trees and branches because of the wind.  I was walking along and thought, no trees are going to fall on me when about 20 feet away from me a huge branch snapped off and fell near the path!  I thought, whoa that must be God saying, "Listen to Kenny!"  : )

I walked a little bit farther than usual to see which other areas which were flooded and took 13,540 steps on this walk.
The temperature is on the way down today and when I got home it had gone down to 39.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is Ken's last day of work but also the last day that I get to have the whole day to myself.  I've been on my own during the day for a good many years and I too will have an adjustment to make!   I am not anticipating any problems though just a different routine. : )
I've been home this day doing a bit of cleaning.  I spotted a huge spider web way up high in our bedroom.  We have VERY high ceilings and there are two dormer windows which let light in up in my loft and that is where the spider web is.  I need a tall ladder to get at it.  I wonder what type of spider made the huge web!!
Our dinner out last night was very nice though we went out in the pouring rain.  We both ordered the Victoria Fillet steak and they were done to perfection.  Mine, medium rare, with a baked sweet potato and salad.  Ken's medium well, with garlic herb mashed potatoes and a salad too.
So tonight we get to do it all over again.  This time we are going to Carrabba's for Italian. : )
Hope your day has been happy and bright.
Till next time......
A happy day to you.
Happyone  : )
Don't be discouraged.
It's often the last key in the bunch
that opens the lock.
I am glad you had a safe walk around all of the flooded areas. Best wishes for the both of you on your husband's retirement. I am sure you both will be fine.
The temps were so nice today that I wanted to get out, but just seeing the tree limbs all over the neighbor's lawn said "stay put."
Yes, Ken's retirement will mean changes, but it will all be good. He may join you for a mile or two of your walk! John is convinced that he will whip you into shape WHATEVER that means. ;D Men!
Your meal sounded so delish to me...have a nice celebration tonight!
Sounds to me like you have some angels with you keeping you safe on your walk :-) Yes, retirement for Ken will be an adjustment, but a happy one, no doubt. Hope you will still keep checking in with blogland and letting us enjoy your day with you!
Your dinner out last night sounds scrumptious, and your choice was just what I would have made! We have had over 12 inches of rain this month, making over 8 inches above our average rainfall. The ground is really soaked!
Glad you and and the branch misconnected. Those winds were something!
Very cool about the retirement. It gives you both a lot of options. I hope to retire some day (year? decade? century?)
Flooding and wind taking branches down. -sigh- I could never venture out in that. Wimp I know!
Last day. Different routine coming up. It will be fine. You'll look on it, as a happy challenge. :-)
