Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A walk in light

It was nice this morning not walking when it was so dark out.  I leave about the same time now that the sun comes up. Of course that won't last very long because the days are still getting shorter.  No sun this morning, just a cloudy sky.  It was 37 degrees.

I walked around the lake and was surprised that there weren't more people there because it wasn't dark.  There were just a few of the regulars I see most days.

When the weather is in the 30's is when I start wearing a few extra layers of clothing.  Light layers work best.  I wear tights under my sweat pants.  On top the first layer is a long sleeve turtle neck, then a short sleeve tee shirt, followed by a sweat shirt.  The outer layer is a big zip up sweat shirt with a hood.  It's important to keep your head warm.
Colder weather I add stretch leggings under my sweat pants, a wide headband over my ears, a neck scarf, and a final big flannel shirt/coat with another hood.
It all keeps me toasty warm even on those real cold days.  How cold before I don't walk or take a short walk you ask - about 10 degrees.  Thankfully we don't have very many of those extra cold days!!

I saw the heron over by the lake and lots of the geese were flying away and others were coming in, all making lots of noise.
I watched a hawk like bird chase a king fisher and I saw a few deer around too.  Here's
one of them who stayed around to get his picture taken.
I walked 6.4 miles.

I finished reading another book by Elizabeth Berg called Open House.  Another one I really liked.  So far I've really liked everything I've read by her.  I'm going to make a list of all her books and read every single one of them.  This one was about a woman whose husband leaves her and how she deals with it.  I find this and all her books are a mix of happy, sad, funny, and makes you stop and think.
I will start another of her books later today.

Did some shredding and filled a big bag just in time for tomorrow which is recycling pick up day.  I've said before I really like to shred.

I've been making some weave-it squares for a baby blanket I'm making and almost have enough squares now.

Yesterday afternoon we finally saw a little sun and today the sun has come out again.  Sure is nice to see it.  Makes me appreciate the nice warm feel of the sunshine even more going without if for a whole week.

Hope your Monday is a joyful one.

Wow. That deer looks serious. It takes awhile to get used to the time change for a lot of folks. I know it'll take me a good two weeks. We're up at 5:30 now and ready for bed at 8:30. That's ridiculous!

Hasn't hunting season begun, down there???? He seems way tooooo comfortable with humanity!

I thought of you, and the light for walking now. Well, for a while.

Re: Your dream of me. Cute! Except that I am short, not tall. :-) Was always 5'3" and now, have shrunk a wee bit even. :-) Perhaps I was wearing my high Purple Witch's Hat. And that's why I appeared tall, in your dream. :-)

I am going to look for some of Elizabeth Berg's books on your recommendation. Sounds like you really know how to dress for the cold weather. Enjoy your week!

You are so good about walking in all types of weather. I know the key is to dress appropriately, but I tend to make excuses when it gets cold.
I agree that shredding is a satisfying pastime. We just filled a big bag here with shredded paper. It feels good to lighten that paper load.

The time change always messes up my body for several days... What I don't like is that it gets dark here about 4:30....

Love the Thoreau quote.... I don't usually get up really early --but when I do, I love seeing the sunrise...

Hugs,
Betsy

That deer is pretty big! I like the light in the morning - but hate that it is dark so early now. I wish we had lots of light in the morning AND in the evening :)
