Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

No walking and a good book

I know you must be getting tired hearing about my injured leg but I think I have been pushing it even taking my shortened walks.  It doesn't seem to be getting any better so I have decided to not walk at all for a couple of days and see if it feels better.  Ken had a talk with me and said that I am not giving it a change to heal.  He said it is kind of like a scab that you keep picking off once it starts healing.
So this morning instead of walking I sat in my chair with a package of frozen peas on my sore leg (a good ice pack) and finished reading my current book.

The book I finished reading was Saving CeeCee Honeycut by Beth Hoffman and it was a great book.  It was her first book and I sure hope she writes another!!
This is off the cover: "All I knew was that I was flying through the night in a fancy car with a woman who showed up out of nowhere and offered to take me, messed-up life and all, to a place called Savannah."

It is told from the point of view of a 12 year old girl.  Her mom dies and she goes to live with her great aunt Tootie.
It made me laugh and cry and the characters are wonderful.  It is the best book I've read in a long time!
I thought the book had had some great lines in it and I found myself underlining parts of the book.  Here are a few quotes I especially liked from the book.

"Wisdom comes from experience - from knowin' each day is a gift and accepting it with gladness."

"Don't grow up too fast, darling.  Age is inevitable, but if you nurture a childlike heart, you'll never ever grow old."

"She was so alive and full of original ideas..... While other women were busy being proper, she was busy cultivating her spirit."

".......it occurred to me that that's what friends should do: cherish the good and pretend not to notice the harmless rest.

I learned of the book on AuntieA's Blog after she read and liked it.  Thanks AuntieA!!

I baked a batch of Chocolate Chip cookies for the Easter Egg Hunt at church on Saturday.  Then put two of them in plastic snack bags and they will be given out to the kids who come to the egg hunt.

I had a couple of pictures to post today but blogger wasn't cooperating with me so today's post as no pictures.

And that's what I've been doing so far today.
Hope you are well and healthy and able to walk as far as you want to.

Good for you. Icing, resting, reading, a spot of tea perhaps. The book sounds a lot like one I really enjoyed and am now reading the sequel. It must be the rescued child genre that is so appealing with all the life lessons tossed in. My books are written by Sandra Krill.

I hope the rest helps with the healing. I know how frustrating it is to have a body that won't do the things your mind wants to do.

You might to need to have a doctor check out your leg. You may have cracked something and it might be a good thing to have it checked out. For your pain to continue on as long as it has, it doesn't seem to have been just a minor fall. Take care and I hope you are out and about on your usual paths soon!

I agree with Wanda - your leg should be on the mend by now and maybe a check by a physician will be a help. I hope you heal soon. To lose yourself in a good book is a great way to relax. I bet the kiddies enjoy their choc chip cookie treat.

Did I say Krill? I meant Kring. You're getting some great advice here.

Saving Cee Cee Honeycut was indeed a phenomenal novel and such a gift as it was her first, as you mentioned. I, too, look forward to her next effort.

My PT tells me that I won't know if I've crossed the line in overdue-ing until I've done it -- then I'm to pare back a bit. She's right (she always is) and I've had to re-adjust my workout twice.

Hi Karen

I just added your book to my reading list. I can't wait to read it!

I have an idea how hard it must be for you to take a break from your walking. It's only temporary! That's a blessing.

Easter plans?
