Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Just enjoy

Today as I limped along on my walk, one of my prayers was to ask God to make my leg better so I could once again walk fast and as far as I wanted.  Then walking along, some interesting thoughts came to mind and I decided to make a couple of changes.
I have been a bit impatient waiting for my leg to return to normal.   Not walking for a few days and now just being able to go three miles I appreciate walking all the more.  Just being outside early and hearing the birds and seeing the beauty around me is awesome.  It doesn't matter if I walk 3 or 6 or 8 miles, I am blessed to be able to walk at all.  So many people can't even walk a mile.  I feel like I am becoming obsessed with  keeping track of the miles and having too many goals set.  I need to just enjoy the walking without setting goals about it.
So though I will still post about my walks and post how far I walk, I am not going to be concerned if I don't make at least 6 miles EVERY DAY.
I will no longer keep an excel spread sheet of my miles.
I will no longer keep the Ticker Factory goal of walking 2000 miles a year at the bottom of my blog and have already removed it.
I will no longer keep track of my walking and exercising with WalkerTracker and have taken that off my sidebar too.
I WILL just enjoy walking no matter how far or having to have goals about it!!  : )

So this morning I had a nice walk down the street and along the one path.  I walked over a couple of footbridges, heard the birds chirping and enjoyed the green of spring starting to come out all around me. It was a cloudy morning and 45 degrees.  A few other people were out enjoying the morning too.  I had a great walk and was glad to be able to walk the 3.1 miles that I did.

Ken is over at the old house for part of the day building trusses for the roof of our shed which we will start building soon on our land.  He is trying to get some things done here to save time building on the land.  I usually would have gone to help but still want to rest my leg.  The up and down that I would have to do might not be such a good idea.

So I will be at home doing the usual every day house chores and then read, knit or maybe do some work on the huge counted cross stitch project I'm working on.

Tonight we are going to Ram's Head Live in Annapolis to see Shawn Colvin who I've never heard off before, but I'm sure I'll enjoy the show. : )

Enjoy your Saturday and do something different and fun.
A happy day to you.

WISDOM, my Dear! Wisdom! And you came to these conclusions, on your own. No one told you. No one chided you, with the old.... "Be happy you can walk at all, since many people can not" thing. You came to your conclusions, yourself.

And thus, it will be so much less difficult, to put them into practice. Only we, can change ourselves. And all that jazzzz...

And thank you, from your *Auntie,* who worries too much, about others. -grin- I go and worry about all these grown women blogger friends. Who can make their own decisions. Who don't need me to fret over/at them. :-)

But I still do.

So thank you!!! I can now stop my fretting, when I come to your blog!

Love's ya' Hon!!! You know that!!!!

I think what you are saying and what your quote says is so true. Often when I'm feeling like there's something I have to do, but don't want to I just think of how much my sister would love to be able to do any of the things that I am able to do in a given day. That usually allows me a better perspective and improves my attitude.
Sounds like a wise thing for you to go slow until your leg is all better. Hopefully it won't be long.
Enjoy the concert.

I love a good epiphany. I really like the Isak Dinesen quote, too. She has so many. That's what living in Africa does for ya. ;D

Good plan to stay home. Very good. Keep up the good work.

I had a similar insight after my surgery. I was thankful just to walk again. I keep my pedometer and log my steps because I enjoy seeing the improvement, how far I've come. Remember, I'm a 30 year couch potato, who has chosen a healthier lifestyle, for me improvement counts. I was so afraid, like I'm sure you were after your injury, that losing the ability to walk would be devastating. You are your own motivation, not the pedometer. Your body will tell you what you can do (and can't), listen to it - you matter!!!

I feel your pain and anguish over not being able to do the amount of walking you have done in past. Hopefully, you will be able to do it all again --once your leg is well. BUT--you must rest that leg --and make sure it does get well.

You are right. Most of us can't walk even 3 miles at one time... You do GREAT--and need to keep that great attitude and realize that you are doing the best you can right now...

God Bless you, Karen. Please take care of yourself.
Hugs,
Betsy

Very wise thoughts! Especially when we run, we can become obsessed with times and goals. I ran a 10K yesterday and tried for the same thing - just enjoy it and be thankful to be alive, healthy, and moving. Of course when I found I had tied my personal best time and had I been just one second faster.... :^)

I'm so pleased you are able to get out and enjoy a walk again. You are quite right - what does it matter how many miles we walk so long as we enjoy what we are doing. Have a lovely evening out.
