Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

How I spent my day

A morning with low humidity and sunshine made for a very pleasant walk.  I walked pretty much the same route as yesterday along roads and through the woods on paths but went in the opposite direction.
One of the footbridges I walked over.
Stopped on another footbridge to take this picture.
Only a few people out again and not much wildlife either, but I did see two blue birds!
I found two pennies by the liquor store which brought my total of coins this months to $1.37.
Three quarters, three dimes, one nickle, and 17 pennies.
I walked 6.4 miles.
After my walk I stayed out front and was watering my plants.  A woman I see sometimes  walking around the lake who I say good morning to was walking her dog past my house.  I knew that she lived in the same townhouse complex that I do but she didn't realized that I did.  She stopped to talk and she asked me about my walking.  She said she sees me walking all over the place.  After answering the usual questions she asked me if I had Jesus in my life.  I said I sure do.  She then said, I thought so because I always see you with a smile and you seem to have joy deep down inside and no one can have so much joy without Jesus.  Wow!!  What a nice thing to say and to hear. That certainly made my day!! : )
*************************************************
I had to make a trip to the post office to mail something and then I stopped at WalMart to pick up a few things. It was a little after 12:00 by the time I got home.  I've been trying to wash my car all week and I finally got around to washing it before I had lunch.  It takes me about 45 minutes to get it washed.  I didn't vacuum the inside though.  I don't have to every time I wash it because I keep it super clean inside.  No food or drink allowed in it.

After lunch I did some house chores and then made some weave-it squares with the new yarn that I bought.  I'll be telling you about my next weave-it afghan that I've started on a future post.  I also did a little bit more on the jigsaw puzzle that I started the other day.  It has only 500 pieces and I should have been finished with it by now, but I haven't been had a change to work on it much.
Well, it will soon be supper time once again and I've got to go and figure out what we're eating tonight.
Till next time.........

Hope all is well in your part of the world and your Thursday was a good one.

Walking Weather

It was cooler this morning and quite pleasant for walking.  I walked on paths through the woods and down neighborhood streets.  I saw a few people walking on the sidewalks, one person walking down the middle of the road
and no one at all on the paths in the woods.  So nice and quiet to listen to the birds and to hear the water making its way down the stream and over the rocks.
Another quiet uneventful walk but a good one all the same.
I walked passed the liquor store too and found a penny.

Funny stickhorsecowgirlV that you asked about what my favorite walking weather was because as I was walking this morning I was thinking that I would blog about that today!!
My ideal walking weather is when the temperature is in the high 40's or low 50's and the sun is shining.  I would be wearing long pants, a tee-shirt and a sweatshirt with pockets.  One for my camera and one for my phone.  I like when the air is brisk and has that certain smell when things feel fresh and cool.  Early spring or fall days are best.  That's my favorite weather, but given the choice of winter weather (cold but no ice) or summer, I would pick winter. Though I am not a fan of winter and prefer the warm weather of summer during the rest of the day, I do like walking when it's cold.  In fact even on those days when the weather is in the teens,  while I'm walking is the only time of the day that I'm warm!!  : )  The rest of the day inside I'm usually cold!
I like to walk in the rain once in a while because I like to hear the rain and it just feels great to be out walking then too.
Whatever the weather I'm just glad to be out there walking.
Today I walked 6.2 miles.
*************************************************
Ken took a vacation day today because he has days to use or lose.  He sat outside on the deck and read while I did a few things around the house.  Then we went out to do a few errands.  I should have worn my pedometer because we sure did a lot of walking!  I'm sure we walked another three miles! : )

Supper tonight is going to be at Red Robin where I'm going to have fish and chips.  That's my favorite place for that.  I also like sitting in the little booths for two with Kenny. : )
I'm skipping a snack tonight.  Just having a nice big glass of Crystal Pink Lemonade with ice.

Hope your Wednesday was a good one.
A smile from me to you.

This and that for Tuesday

It was a hot hazy morning out there today for my morning walk.  I walked around the lake and so did a LOT of other people.  Everybody trying to get in some early exercise before it gets too hot.  A couple of people were down by the boat ramp getting their boats in the water to get some fishing in for the day.
I saw the white egret standing at the edge of the water.  I spotted a few groundhogs munching on grass at the edge of the path as well as the rabbits.  Quite a few squirrels were scurrying around up at the playground and a couple were working on increasing the population a bit more.
An uneventful walk but I always enjoy it.  If I'm walking outside it is never boring to me and the time just seems to fly by.  The only time it seems like a long time is those mornings when I can't walk.  Then I can't believe I would be out there walking for all that time. : )  I also don't realize how far I walk until I'm in the car and see how far 6 miles is from home in a straight line.
I am just so thankful that I am healthy and able to walk as long and as far as I do every day. : )
This morning I walked 6.5 miles.
********************************************
Have you ever met someone that you just didn't like?
I'm pretty easy going and like and get along with most people.  But once in a while I come across someone that I just don't like.  I've tried to like this person, have been nice even when I didn't want to but I just don't like them.  I think the feeling is mutual.  When I see the person we are always in a group so it should be easy to stay clear of them.
  *****************************************
I did a few things around the house, had breakfast and then left for a morning of knitting with my knitting group.  I knitted on a white sampler square which was hard to do there because there was a lot of counting to be done.  I did manage to get a few rows knitted without having to rip it out. : )  I usually bring something easy to work on because with all the talking going on it is VERY easy to make mistakes.  There were quite a few of us there and we had to bring three tables together.  I didn't count us this week so don't know how many were there.  It was a little warm outside but we were in the shade and there was a nice breeze every once in a while.

I was thinking about washing my car this afternoon when I got home but knew I had Ken's shirts to iron so I had lunch and got started on the ironing.  The spray starch can was clogged once again and I had to unclog that before getting started.  I usually use Faultless Spray and never have a problem with it.  I bought Niagara this time and now I remember why I stopped buying it.

With the shirts all ironed instead of doing something productive I got out this puzzle to start which Ken brought home from the work picnic he went to last week.  They had an auction with play money and this is one of two puzzles that he got.
Remember those wild flower seeds I planted out in the pot out back on the deck?   These spindly flowers is what grew from those seeds.  I think next year I'll just buy flowers to plant.
Ken should be home in a little while now and I haven't decided on a supper yet so I'd better go and figure what to have.

Hope today was a day that you made at least one happy memory.

Watch Standing

This morning the weather is back to being cloudy and humid.  Had a sprinkling of rain but it didn't last long and I didn't even get wet to cool off.  Still it was great to get out and walk. As I walked out my door I saw a big old turkey buzzard sitting on the peak of the roof down the block and three crows were dive bombing him.  He sat there for a bit dodging the attacks and then flew off with the three crows following.
I made my way over to the lake and walked around it with all the other people.  Quite a crowd of people this morning, it seemed like a Saturday.
On the path to the lake I saw a deer and her baby standing in the water getting a drink.  When they saw me, both ran up the bank on the other side of the stream and into the woods.
There is a Red Winged Black bird taking a rest on the back of the bench here.
I thought if I tried to get any closer he would fly away.
I stopped down at the narrow end of the lake on the footbridge just to look out over the water.  As I stood there I saw geese down in the water, over to one side there was the white egret and on the other side was the heron.  In the background I heard a bull frog croaking and all the birds singing.
Farther along on one side of the path there were a couple of rabbits and on the other side a groundhog and a Cardinal flew low right in front of me.
Lots of wildlife to enjoy watching this morning. It was a great walk.
I walked 6.2 miles.
*****************************************
Ken was just getting home as I was getting ready to go for my walk this morning.  He went in to work last night because he had to get some stuff done and thought he could get more done without others being there to interrupt him.  So he went to bed as I went for my walk.
It brought back memories from when Ken was in the Navy and we were in Scotland.  He would be sleeping off a Mid Watch and I would be trying to keep both kids quiet so he could sleep. Not any easy task when your kids are 3 and 5.  Funny thing though I would be the one to wake him up yelling at the kids to be quiet so they wouldn't wake up daddy.  : )
Ken worked some crazy hours back then.  He worked a 2,2,2,80 which was called Watch Standing and it was based on an 8 day week so there were people on watch 24 hours a day.
Here's what the schedule was like.
Monday, a Day Watch, which was 8:00AM to 4:00PM.
Tuesday, another Day Watch.  Home to eat and sleep. Then came a Mid Watch at 12:00PM to 8:00AM.  Then home to sleep.
Wednesday night another Mid Watch.  Home on Thursday morning to sleep and then an Eve Watch that night - 4:00PM to 12 midnight.
Friday another Eve watch.
Then off for three days.  The days off were called your Break.  And it would start all over again.  Only next week,  work would start on a Tuesday so every week you got different days off.
So he worked 2 Days, 2 Mids, 2 Eves, and 80 hours off hence 2,2,2,80
Holidays didn't matter, if they happened to be during your work time you were just out of luck.
Ken worked watch standing for years and we all got used to it.  It was hard on a body though trying to get adjusted to all the different awake and sleep patterns in such a short period.
 **********************************************
I tried to keep quiet doing this and that around the house this morning while Ken slept. He was up 11:30 after sleeping five hours.  We decided to have lunch out and went to the Olive Garden and had the unlimited soup, salad, and bread sticks.  I skipped the soup.

I've been wanting to get a summer wreath for my front door.  I thought about making one but then I saw this one in Joanne's on sale for 60% off so I bought it.

Getting gas for my car is not one of my favorite things to do. Ken is being nice and is out now as I type this getting gas for my car. : )

That's it for now.
Till next time.....
Hope you started off your week on a happy note.
A happy day to you.

My old walking route

I didn't walk any of my regular routes this morning.  We left first thing to go over to the old house to have a day of yard work.  While Ken got started on the yard work I went for my morning walk and walked the route I used to walk when we lived there.  I had a great place for walking there too, up to the park and along paths in the woods.  Before I made my way to the park I walked around town a little bit.
At the edge of the park by the ball fields I picked up this path here.
This is one of a few foot bridges I crossed over.
At the end of the first path, it is now more of a road because new sewers were put in and this is so all the big trucks and equipment could make it in to the woods.
At the end of the path I crossed a street and picked up another path.  The path goes right underneath Interstate 95.
I am looking up here at 95.  I went under both north and south sides.
The path goes along a river and I walked down to the river and took this picture.
The bridge up ahead is called the Pratt Bridge.
I took this picture standing on the bridge looking down at the water.
Then I turned around and walked back.  It was nice walking along my old route.  I like how it meanders along the river and I can hear the water.  When I moved I thought I'd never find a nice place like this to walk again.  As much I as I like this walk, I like my walk around the lake at home better.
There were a lot of people along the path today walking, running and riding bikes but I only saw one person I knew from when I walked there.  I was a later though than I used to walk so maybe they were all there earlier.
I saw a couple of deer and many birds.  No ducks or geese though.
A bit of a cool front came by last night so it wasn't so humid today which made walking super nice.
I walked 6.6 miles and for me that was 13,605 steps.
**********************************************
Once I got back to the house I changed my clothes, got out the lawn mower and mowed the lawn, front and back.  Ken had done a lot of weeding, trimming and cutting back tree branches while I was gone.
Lunch time came around and we decided instead of having a DAY of yard work we would have a MORNING only of yard work.

We went back home, washed, and changed clothes and then went out to do a few errands.  Before errands we stopped at Subway and had sandwiches.  I was very hungry because there was no time for breakfast this morning.  I thought I'd be hungry enough to eat my whole sub but still got full after eating half of it.

So that's been my day so far.  Not sure what the rest of the day will bring.
Hope you're enjoying your Saturday.
Till next time.......

Walking, library and baking

This morning it was 72 degrees and another hot and humid one.  This time the sun was out too so it really felt warm.  But I don't really mind because I know I can cool off when I get back home.  At least I can get out and walk.
This time I walked one of my connect the path routes which kept me under the trees and along the stream for a good part of the way.
Another bike abandoned along the path.  I guess kids steal the bike, ride it for a while and then leave it along the path.  I usually see them dumped in the trees and someone will take it out and put it up on the path, hoping the owner will find it.
The path is crumbling away here.  When it rains water runs across here down the to stream.
I was walking down the road when I saw a fox dart out the back of a yard, run across the street, run through another yard and into the woods.  Next thing I heard was the crows making a loud ruckus.  I guess they didn't like Mr Fox!
I passed a woman walking her dog and she commented on all the rabbits that were around.  She said it looked like a set for filming Watership Down! : )  I had to agree.

As I passed the pool this morning there were a bunch of kids having a swimming class already.  They sure had a nice hot morning for it.

By the time I was home it was cloudy and looked like rain again.

I walked 6.5 miles which was 13,415 steps for me.
*************************************************
Got a load of clothes hung up on the line hoping that it wouldn't rain and then left to go to the library.  Dropped off a couple of books and looked around.  I saw a few books to get out but controlled myself and left without checking out anymore because I still have four at home that have to be read.
It didn't rain and my clothes were already dried when I got back home.

A while ago I copied a recipe off of Vee's Blog for Scottish Shortbread and this afternoon I made some.  They turned out great and I have added the recipe to my MealsMatter Cookbook .
I only made half of the recipe because it sounded like a lot for just the two of us.
Good news about my toe.  This morning the swelling was gone and it was just about back to normal.  Now I can even bend it and it feels fine.  : )

Friday has come around once again.  Hope yours was a good one.
A smile from me to you.

A new look

It was quite warm outside this morning walking.  Temperature was 78 degrees, cloudy, still and very humid.  I walked around the lake.  These geese look nice and cool.
I was hoping for another rain shower but it didn't happen today.
I saw the usual rabbits and all the usual kinds of birds.  Spotted a couple of groundhogs.  I know there are a lot of them around but don't see them that often.  I stopped to watch a family of geese.  Dad in front with five little babies waddling behind him and mom coming up in the rear.  All headed down to get in the water.
Some people walk or run and keep looking straight ahead and are so intent on their exercise that they miss so much going on around them.  They just don't know what they're missing.  They might even enjoy their exercise more if they would just look around them. : )
There were quite a lot of people around the lake, but I didn't seem many people that I knew.  I think a lot of the regulars are starting out earlier than usual.  Maybe because it is light so early now in the morning.  Though now that it is summer the days are getting shorter again already.
My toe was still sore in the morning but when I put my socks and shoes on it felt better and I was able to walk without it bothering me.  When I took my socks and shoes off when I got back home my toe started hurting again. I don't know why that is but I'm just thankful it didn't keep my from my walk. : )
I walked 6.3 miles which was 12,924 steps.
***********************************************************
That new flavor of ice cream I ate last night tasted just as good as it sounded.  I have a new favorite flavor!  Too bad it's only for a limited time.  But then I'm sure the next limited new flavor will be just as good too.

I spent some time this morning playing around with a new look for this blog.  That is such a time consuming thing to do and I have such trouble making up my mind with exactly what I like.  So anyway this is what I've come up with this time.  Hope it is easy for everyone to read.

We went out for dinner for Mexican food tonight at Tex Mex in the mall.  We like to sit out on the mall side and people watch.  We stayed for a while after we were done eating talking and watching people.

Now that we are back home I'm going to read for a while and then later have some more of that Box of Chocolates ice cream.  What a crazy name for an ice cream flavor!

Here's hoping that your day was a happy one.

My Wednesday

This morning my walk took me along some paths in the woods and along sidewalks in neighborhoods.  A pretty hot and humid morning it was too.  Started out cloudy but the sun came out not long after.  I was just thinking how nice a rain shower would be when that's exactly what happened.  While the sun was shining it rained.  It was most welcome to have that brief shower but it was kind of spooky too!
I only came across a couple of people and they were all walking dogs.
I saw a deer in the woods and he looked up when I stopped to watch him and then just continued eating when I stood still.  I heard lots of different birds but didn't see any and
a fox ran across a path carrying something in its mouth but I couldn't tell what it was.
As much as I enjoyed my walk it was nice to come home to a nice cool house and have a nice big cold drink of water.
I walked 6.3 miles which was 12,935 steps.
************************************************
I got a load of laundry hung up on the line first thing and then sat down and finished reading the book that I didn't quite finish last night.  It was another Ken Follett book called Code to Zero.  Ken read it too and we both liked it.  I liked it because it was a fast moving exciting book but I didn't really LIKE any of the characters in it.  I didn't get attached to any of them and didn't care what happened to them.

I left the house at noon with the cookies I made and the weave-it afghan in a bag and went to get my hair done.  I took the afghan with me because it was for Cheryl who is not only my hairdresser but my good friend as well who I met through our blogs.  She was very happy to receive it and I was so very happy to give it to her.  She just got a little extra tip today. : )  Sorry there are no pictures but we never got around to taking any.

My clothes dried really fast with it being so hot out and the clothes themselves felt hot like I had taken them out of the dryer.

I tripped up the little step from the deck into the house and really gave my toe a good wack - the second toe on my left foot and it is really sore. It feels hot to the touch and is a bit swollen.  I hope it won't bother me tomorrow on my walk!!

Ken is having his work picnic tomorrow and we went out after supper to pick up a few things for it.  It is only for work people so no spouses or kids.  Every year they have a theme and this years theme is On Safari.

We picked up some more ice cream while we were out too.  I got Chocolate Chip Mint and a new flavor that is only going to be out for limited time called Box of Chocolates!  The label reads, Milk chocolate ice cream with dark chocolate raspberry cups, chocolate almonds and white chocolate chunks swirled with chocolate chips.  Now doesn't that sound good!!!  I'm having some of that later. : )

Hope all is well in your part of the world.
Enjoy your evening.

Walking, knitting and cookies

68 degrees this morning and cloudy for my morning walk around the lake again.  There were a couple of light rain showers along the way but not enough to get me wet.  It cooled me off a bit so I welcomed the showers.
There were a few more people around the lake than yesterday but still not that many.
I've mentioned that there are more than the usual amount of rabbits around the lake this year and the same is true for the Canada Geese.  There are so many of them around the lake and lots of them have four or five babies trailing along after them.  They are getting used to all the people because we hardly get hissed at any more and today a lady even got close enough to one of the babies and picked it up.  Daddy geese didn't much like it but he let her hold it, which was really surprising.  I've never tried to pick one up.
Usually when I see a fishing boat on the lake, it is either still or moving slowly in the water.  Today a small boat with a couple of people in it was going as fast at the little motor would go.  The boat left a wake and actually made waves that made the way to the shoreline and you could hear them slapping against the rocks.
A very nice walk around the lake once again.  : )
Today I walked 6.4 miles which for me was 13,116 steps.
**********************************
It was raining this morning and since it's my knitting outside day with the knitting group I thought maybe we would be meeting inside at the mill today.  I checked at the website one last time before leaving and it was still on for outside.  It was a good decision because the rain stopped and we had a nice pleasant time being outside.  I always have a good time but today seemed better than usual.  There were 11 of us there today.
I brought along the finished weave-it afghan for the others to see the finished project.  All of their nice compliments and smiles made me feel good . : )

I didn't eat any breakfast this morning so as soon as I got home I ate lunch.  Just puttered around this afternoon.  I made some chocolate chip cookies to bring with me tomorrow when I go and get my hair done.  I like to bring cookies for all the hairdressers.

Ken called saying he was going out after work with a friend so I'm home tonight alone for dinner.  I'm just going to have a peanut and butter sandwich on toast and just maybe two of those cookies I just made!!
It's been pretty hot here this afternoon so I didn't spend any time on the deck.  After I eat and it gets a bit cooler I plan to go on the deck and finish the book I'm reading.

Have you ever smiled so much in one day that your cheeks hurt?  Hope you had one of those days.

Walking and cleaning

It was 65 degrees this morning and I had a nice walk around the lake in a light drizzling rain.  There was no way I could wear my rain gear because I would have been way too hot.  I thought about taking along my umbrella but didn't feel like carrying it, so I set off in the drizzle not caring about getting wet.
It was really nice walking in the rain.  I could hear the rain drops coming down through the trees, the birds singing, and I didn't have to hold an umbrella up!  By the time I got three quarters around the lake the drizzle had stopped but started up again a few blocks from home.
The geese and ducks were enjoying the wet weather too.  I saw the white egret, a mocking bird, lots of cardinals and gray cat birds and quite a few gold finches as well.  The gold finches are really hard to get a good picture of - they are so small and fast!!  This little bunny didn't seem to be afraid of me at all and let me get real close to take this picture.
It being Monday and rainy there were only a few other people walking around the lake.  I love mornings like this.

My new walking shoes are GREAT!  I walked yesterday and today in them and my feet were just as fine as could be.  I felt like I was flying along in them - so light and comfortable. : )  I'm glad Ken talked me into buying two pair.  I should be set for a while now.

The townhouses here are in the complex that I live in but up the other end.  I walk around the block and turn right here at the corner to go to the lake.  They are putting in a turn lane for my street here at the corner.  We have been waiting for this to happen for a least a year and I look forward to having the extra lane.
This morning I walked 6.3 miles - the steps were 12,934.
******************************************
Today I plan to stay and home and get some house cleaning done.  I usually start upstairs and make my way down.  Today I'm starting in the kitchen and working my way up.
Hopefully I'll also find some time for knitting and reading.

Hope your Monday is a great start of the week for you.
Enjoy your day!

Another pair of new walking shoes

It rained early this morning but by the time I went for my walk, a little earlier than usual at 6:15, it had stopped raining and the sun was coming out.  It was a nice morning for walking.  I didn't walk on any of my usual routes and just walk all over.  I even walked down a couple of roads where I've never been before.
I saw a few deer, a fox and lots of rabbits.  Though I think the rabbits were cute I'm sure the people whose garden they were eating don't feel the same way!!  The birds sounded happy and were enjoying the early morning too.  A few pictures along my walk.
A little bridge which leads from one road over to another.
A cool looking fence and flowers in front of a bed and breakfast.
Some tall pretty flowers to brighten up some mailboxes.
Not many people up and about yet so I had the morning pretty much to my self.
During my walk I took 12,943 steps which for me is 6.3 miles.  I've heard say that the average person takes 2000 steps per mile.  That number appears a little low for me.
It was also a good coin day - I found a quarter, a dime and a penny.
****************************************
June is the anniversary month for when I started taking morning walks. This years makes 23 years.  A while back I wrote a post about me and my walking and how I got started.  For those of you who are new to my blog and would like to read that post, click HERE.

Ken and I met up for lunch and then went out to do a few errands.  I got another new pair of walking shoes.  I couldn't find any woman's New Balance shoes in a wide width and none of the regular fit right.  I got an idea to try on boys shoes.  That worked out very well.  I found a pair that felt really good in a size 7.  : )  I like the black color and they were cheaper than women's shoes.  I'll wear them tomorrow and hopefully they will be perfect for long walks.  I bought 2 pair.  If these don't feel right after my walk, I'm taking both pair back, but I'm sure these will be fine.  Me, the ever optimist!
Here's a picture of my new shoes.
Now that I've finished the weave-it afghan my next big project to finish is the white knitted sampler afghan that I'm making as a bedspread for our bed.  It is made up of 99 white squares.  I have only 12 more to make.  I started one of the squares today.  These squares take a bit longer than weave-it squares.  A weave-it square I can get done in about 10 minutes.  A white knitted square takes 2 or 3 hours.  I've been working on this project for years and I will feel so good when I finally get it done!!

Hope all is well in your part of the world.
A smile from me to you.

I came across the following quote about fathers.  It is one that I could have written about my dad.  I miss my dad!!  Someday we will be reunited again in heaven. : )

A father is someone that
holds your hand at the fair.
Makes sure you do what your mother says.
Holds back your hair when your are sick.
Brushes your hair when it is tangled because mother is too busy.
Lets you eat ice cream for breakfast.

He walks you down the aisle.
He tells you everythings gonna be ok

Waiting for a hole in one

I didn't get to go on my morning walk today.  We left early in the morning to go to the golf course on base.  The place where Ken works was having a charity golf tournament and we volunteered to be the witnesses for the hole in one.  We've done this same thing for a few times now.  We set up chairs and spent the day sitting by hole number 10 waiting to see if a hole in one would be made.  The prize - a new car.
We sat a quarter of a mile from the club house and I made quite a few trips back and forth trying to get a few miles walked.  I ended up walking four and a half miles!  Pretty good I'd say for supposed to be sitting all day.
This was our view of hole number 10.
No one got a hole in one but this was the closest of the day.
We saw lots of wildlife while sitting there too.  Two blue jays were dive bombing some kind of hawk which must have gotten too close to their nest.  They chased him all over the place making quite a racket.  We saw gray cat birds, cardinals, chick-a-dees, and crows.  A deer ran across the course and so did quite a few groundhogs.
This is the road I walked back and forth to the club house.
On one of my trips I saw a groundhog run to his home.
A coupe of rabbits sit here with their carrots.
On another trip I found a quarter.
There was a 40% chance of rain and the day started out with nothing but clouds and fog.  But the sun ended up coming out and there was a nice cool breeze.  It was a perfect day for sitting outside.
Looking up at the sky sitting in my chair.
Breakfast and lunch were provided and we didn't get back home until 4:00.  It was a very nice day. : )

Kinky Boots, the movie we watched last night was surprisingly pretty good.  Tonight we will be watching Larkrise to Candleford.  We are on Season 4 Disc 1.
AND tonight I am in the mood for ice cream - chocolate fudge swirl with a topper of chocolate.  Yummy.

Hope your Friday was a happy day.
A smile from me to you.

The Finished Afghan

Another nice cool morning for walking.  55 degrees and sunny when I started out but not long after it clouded up.  As I was nearing home I felt a few drops of rain.
I have been wearing the new walking shoes I bought a while ago just around and they started feeling pretty good so this morning I decided to give them a try again for walking.  Started walking close around home to see how they would feel on a real walk.  Not long after I started walking I could feel my heal starting to rub so I came back home and changed into my old shoes again before a blister could start.
I didn't walk on any of my routes but just walked wherever I felt like going at the moment.  I mostly stayed along the paths in the woods and came out on the streets once in a while.
I happened to just have taken a picture so my camera was out when a deer ran out and crossed the path so I was able to get a picture of her just before she disappeared in the woods again.
I saw a three more deer.  One of them was walking across the stream and stopped to take a drink.
I saw a few people along the streets but along the paths I saw no one.  It was nice just me and the deer being serenaded by the birds.
Today on my walk I took 13,517 steps.

A while back I mentioned that we bought and installed a ceiling fan with lights in the kitchen.  The other day we bought a couple of pulls so we could better reach it for tuning on and off so we didn't have to use the switch on the wall.  I was thinking of old looking glass ones but when we saw these whimsical ones we both thought they would be perfect.  There will be no mistaking which one turns on the fan or light.
After I put the ingredients in the bread machine for bread this morning, I went up into my loft, put an audio book in my laptop and proceeded to finish sewing up the weave-its and turned it into an afghan.  It took me about an hour but now it is all done.  I laid it out on the living room floor and took these pictures.

Now the fun part comes when I surprise my friend with it.   I won't see her for a few days but I'll let you know who it is for once I give it to her.

Pizza night out for us this evening and then to pick up some ice cream.  Haven't had any ice cream in the house for at least a week and the odd thing is I don't feel like having any tonight.  My snack will be a few Oreo cookies.  We will be watching the movie, Kinky Boots this evening which came in the mail from Netflix.

I hope you enjoyed your day and you made some happy memories.
A smile from me to you.

The end

My blogging break has come to an end and now I'm back and ready to continue.
The last few mornings the weather has just been beautiful for walking with temperatures in the 50's, lots of sunshine and very low humidity - it just doesn't get any better than that for walking!!
This morning I walked around the lake.  I've looked at this in the water for a while now and to me it looks like a very long alligator or maybe we have our very own lake monster! : )
I walked down to the water to take a picture of it today and watched a snapping turtle trying to get up on the log but it just couldn't make it and ended up swimming away.
The upper path around the lake people call the Bunny Trail and today I could certainly see why they call it that.  I must have seen a least a dozen of them along there this morning.  One was a tiny little thing and it was soooo cute!
The one family of geese have grown up and now I can't tell the babies from the parents.  The only reason I knew it was the same family I've been watching is because they hang around with another family and their babies are still small.  I'm thinking its an extended family.
Quite a lot of people out with this nice weather and everyone seems extra friendly on these mornings.
I found a lucky penny today. : )
I usually post how many miles I walked.
For a change I thought now I'll post how many steps I take.
Today's steps were 12,777.
***********************************************
I went out this morning to Barnes and Noble to spend the gift card that I received for my birthday.  I ended up getting a couple of old children's classics that I loved as a kid and would like to reread them and have a copy for my library.
I had a few other errands to do and while driving through a neighborhood I spotted some good street sign names for my photo blog.  So I parked my car and took a little walk and snapped some pictures.  I post a street sign every Saturday.

When I got back home I sat out on the deck amongst my clothes drying on the line and finished reading a great book, Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, by Helen Simonson.  It was her first book and I hope she plans on writing more!!
The Major is retired and lives in the small English village of Edgecombe St. Mary.  The death of his brother sparks an unexpected friendship with Mrs. Ali.
Thanks Cheryl for recommending this book to me!!
After eating a late lunch I then concentrated on making the rest of the weave-it squares for the afghan I'm making (a total of 288 squares). I finished all the squares and sewed the last row of 32 together.  Now I just have to sew the two last strips to the main part and I'll be done.  If I don't finish it later tonight, I will finish it up tomorrow.

Last night we bought tickets to see Les Miserables at the Kennedy Center.  I have wanted to see this forever and I am so excited to be finally going.  It isn't until October but it will be something to look forward to!!  : )

I ended up wearing my pedometer the whole day just to see how many steps I take.  I tried not to look at it during the day so I wouldn't take extra steps.
It is now a little after 7:00 and my total steps to now is 19458.

Hope you had a happy day.
A smile from me to you.

We seem to be going through a period of nostalgia,
and everyone seems to think yesterday was better than today.
I don't think it was,
and I would advise you not to
wait ten years before admitting today was great.

A little break

Just got back from my morning walk.  It's a hot one out there.  The humidity is back again.  I walked one of my connect the path routes.  I passed this pool and thought it looked so inviting.  I took the picture through a fence - if the fence wasn't there I would have been tempted to jump in for a quick cool off. : )
Heard lots of birds, saw rabbits and a deer and only a few people.
I really liked how this picture turned out.  I was walking through a tunnel of trees and just coming to the end.

I'm going to take a bit of a break from this blog.  I feel like I'm writing the same stuff every day and just need a little time off.
I will still be around reading blogs and I will still be posting a daily photo on my other blog Snapshots by Happyone.   You can always stop by there if you care to and say hi.

A happy day to you.
I'll be back to posting here soon.
Till next time..........
A smile from me to you.

An old picture

Low humidity, sunshine, and only 59 degrees made it another one of those terrific mornings for walking.  I just wandered around not walking on any specific route of mine.  I went on roads, sidewalks, and paths through the woods.
I saw just a few people and I didn't see much wildlife around either.  Only heard the birds and saw a few rabbits.  I found a dime in the parking lot by the liquor store and this corner of a dollar.  It would have been nice to find the rest of it.
I came across a roll of caps which brought back a few memories for me.  I had a cap gun when I was a kid and would use the caps in that but the most fun was just to roll the caps out on the sidewalk and hit each one with a rock.  So this morning when I got home I sat out in the back on the driveway, got a rock and set off the caps.
It brought my neighbors out on their deck across the way to see what the noise was.  When they realized it was me they just smiled, waved and went back inside. I didn't even realized you could still buy caps.
I walked 6.4 miles.

Met my knitting friends outside in the courtyard of Kings Contrivance for a couple hours of knitting.  A small group today, only nine of us but the weather was perfect for sitting outside and we all enjoyed our time together.  We jump from subject to subject and we never know what will come up next.  Makes for a fun and interesting time. : )
I knitted on a variegated blue dish cloth which is about half done.  This is for myself. The ones I have are starting to wear out so I'm knitting a few more.

Another old photo of me that I came across is my senior picture from high school.    I was only 18 here and that was many years ago!!  It is hard to believe that so many years have gone by.

Well that's it for today.

Till next time........
I hope you enjoyed your day and you found time for some fun.
