Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A Deer and a surprise for me

This morning I walked up the road to the wetland park, around the little pond there and back home again.  On the way there walking down the road I saw a deer in a yard surrounded by a fence.  I walked up to the fence and stayed very still.
I took this picture first.
 Then this one.
He came right up to the fence where I was standing.
I don't think he realized I was right at the fence.
He jumped over the fence.  I took a picture but missed the jump and just got part of the fence and part of him.
This last picture is after he crossed the street.
He was lame in his right front leg and as he walked his leg turned at the knee at an odd angle.  He must have gotten hurt awhile ago because it didn't seem to slow him down.  It was really cool to be so close to him.
I walked along this path which leads to the little pond.
This stream runs part way along the path.
It was a nice sunny morning walk with a temperature of 59 degrees.  Only saw a few others out walking.
I walked 6.5 miles.

When I got to church this morning and looked over by where the Secret Sisters leave things for each other, I was pleasantly surprised to find this sitting there for me with a little poem.
Thank you Secret Sister who ever you are. : )

In the afternoon we went back over to the old house and Ken went through some more stuff and threw some things out.
I spent the time weeding the driveway.  Yes, the driveway.  It is red stone and lots of weeds sprout up in it.

I'm off now to go and sit out on the deck for a while and make some more weave-it squares.

Hope all is well in your part of the world.
A smile from me to you.
Happyone : )

I just saw a great tip from Sharon Lovejoy at her Lowe's article...no pesticide and it works like a charm...for getting rid of those annoying weeds that grow up between the cracks.

Poor deer...he must have dislocated his knee along the way. He looks pretty tame and friendly.

I always enjoy seeing deer up close as long as they aren't in the road. I would hate to hit a deer with my car. Bad for the deer and bad for my care.

wonderful post- I live kind of pout in the boonies and walked every day with two friends and we had a young deer who followed us like a little puppy- we finally caught him and transported him to a friends house who lived on 300 acres of woods. It was kind of cool having this deer follow us, but we were afraid he would get hit by a car were we live. I haven't thought of that in years. Thanks for sharing

Don't you just love seeing wildlife on your walks? There are herds of deer at one park we sometimes walk at--my hubby likes to take photos of them!
I've never had any luck with yard sales--don't think I'll ever have one again. Have a great week!

Wow! That's a little too-close-and-personal for me. I'd have thought he was going to run at me and jump over the fence there. Brave you!!!!!!

That yummy chocolate! She must have *known* that you'd be down on your knees, weeding, that afternoon. And would need the reward/pick up. :-)

Wow, great photos of the deer. I think the crow told him you are a kind and gentle person and that's why he felt comfortable coming so close :).
How fun to have that sweet surprise waiting for you at church.

Good grief, you were close to that deer, it would have scared me! John is the weeds chaser in this household, he uses Roundup, both Home Depot and Lowe's have it. Squirt and weeds are gone. Use it on sidewalks and driveways. A word of warning, don't use it directly on grass, it will kill it your grass too. I love your walk photos, the stream is so peaceful. Secret Sisters know to keep chocolate a secret.

It always makes me sad to see the lame deer. At least he was recovered enough to walk -- and chocolate!!!!
