Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Walking, knitting and another old picture

A pretty warm morning with a temperature of 54.  No wind, but no sun either - a cloudy dreary morning as I made my way around the lake. I didn't think there was any rain in the forecast but a light shower came along to get us all a bit damp.  It didn't last long though.  I saw a couple of bunny rabbits and they are always good to make me smile watching them hop away with their little white cotton tails.  The white egret was standing at the waters edge waiting for a fish.  There were a about a half dozen geese having a very loud discussion over property rights. They can get pretty loud!
Here's the latest work on the pier/boat ramp.  The path is blocked off here and I had to go to the left up on the grass and around.
This is taken standing on the grass looking down.
This is from the other side.
Quite a few people out around the lake including a lot of fishermen.
I walked 6.5 miles.

It wasn't raining when I left for my Tuesday knitting group but did once I was there.  We heard it coming down hard on the roof and even heard a rumble of thunder.  By the time I left it was drizzly.  Next nice day I'll be out washing my car again.

I was really hungry when I got home and had one of my favorite lunches - a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  It is especially good on home made toasted bread. : )

Here is another picture from my past.  I am only 6 months old and that is Paka holding me who is my great grandfather (mothers grandfather) and it is the only picture I have of him.
He was from Holland where he, I'm pretty sure, was a sea captain.  Any relatives reading this, please comment if you know anything about him.  We called him Paka (pocka) - maybe that means grandfather in Dutch?

Just hanging around home this afternoon doing a little bit of this and that on a rainy day.

Hope all is going well in your part of the world.
A smile from me to you.
Happyone : )

What a great picture. I remember that picture from Grandma's house. I agree with you that I think Paka means grandfather, but I'm not sure either. I am enjoying all the pictures you are posting.

This is truly a photo to treasure. No kidding...my first thought before I read your descriptions was that the gentleman looked like a Dutch seaman! Wonderful picture!

The pier and boat ramp are coming along, I can see the changes from your last postings of it. I'm anxious to see the final product. Looks like a bench closeby, which will be nice too, sit and watch the boats launch. Wow, a picture of your great grandfather and you, how wonderful! I only knew my great grandfathers (both maternal and paternal) names. Both grandfathers had passed away before my parents were adults. Pollen season has made my car a mess too, the season should end in about a month hopefully. I can't wait for the daily showers to end too.

Hi Happy One, WOW---that is so neat that you had a GREAT Grandfather alive when you were little. ALL of my grandparents were dead before I was born. SO--I never had the love of a Grandparent... I certainly missed out on that.... Great picture of you and Paka.

Glad you got around during the rain --without getting too wet... We are supposed to have rain tonight and tomorrow.. Maybe some more severe stuff... What a spring!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

Karen, it is indeed an amazing picture. What a treasure!

Things are going pretty well here. It has been an adventurous ride with the summers beginning their wrath. The work is going on good terms and we should soon be settling into our office. I am reading Lipstick Jungle right now- the first fashion novel I have ever read.

As always enjoyed the walk, and the photos you share. great photo of you and your great grandfather.
I had to smile, peanut butter and jelly sandwich is my dh favorite. I seems the bread maker is doing a great job, I had planned to make some today but was so busy and waited to late as it takes 4hrs. and 10 mins. from start to finish in our bread maker.
