Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

A walk and work

A warm 72 degrees this morning and very windy.  It was raining when I woke up but had stopped by the time I was ready to go walking.  While walking I heard a few claps of thunder and a few very large drops of rain came down and then nothing.  So I had a nice dry walk around the lake.  Quite a few people out considering what the sky looked like.  I took this picture down at the small end of the lake.
I'm standing on the footbridge at the small end of the lake here.  Standing there with the wind blowing it almost felt like I was on the bow of a boat going down the lake.  I just stood there for a while pretending. : )
It's nice to see the lake nice and full again.  They had drained it down quite low while working on the boat ramp/pier.
Here the heron looks for breakfast at the edge of the water.
I ran into a walker friend Ben, who I haven't seen in quite a long time.  We stopped to talk.  He retired a few months ago and has moved back to Ohio where he grew up.  He's back for a few days visit and came to walk around the lake once again.  I met him again on the other side.  He wasn't making his way around the lake very fast today because he had to stop to talk to everyone he knew. : )

I am really thankful that I have this lake to walk around every day and that I'm able to do it without even thinking about it.  I am also thankful for the desire for walking.  : )
I walked my usual 6.4 miles.

It was very windy and seemed to get even more windy when I was back in my neighborhood.  It is trash day and the cans were blowing over (with trash in them) and there were flying boxes and bags all over the place.  A bunch of us were out there trying to pick things up and get the cans set up again.  The wind settled down a little bit so that the cans stayed upright again.  It was like we had our own mini tornado.

I haven't been so good this week with cleaning a little bit each day so I'm home today getting my house cleaning caught up.  Not a very exciting day, but I will certainly feel good after working and every thing is spic and span.

Look for those bits of happiness scattered throughout your day.
Happyone : )

  1. The weather has been crazy today, it was pretty hot. Things are alright here. The work is getting bit weary these days but nonetheless it is good.

  2. You must be on the edge of that rotten weather system that is threatening everyone south of Kittery. Some of my blogging buds are in the basement, some are in shelters, I don't like it. Take care and enjoy the puttering and cleaning. It's good to have a day like that.

  4. I think it was later on Wed., that I saw some of those bad weather boxes for your state. Glad you didn't experience it. Well, with all the wind, you mention...... Perhaps that was your area's having of it.

Yes, you are soooooooo lucky to have this body of water to walk around. We have a good sized pond, up on the campus, but it's not the same. -pout-

  5. Hi There, I'm so sad today while watching all of the damage and devastation on TV --of the southern storms yesterday. I feel blessed that we are fine here --but sad that so many have lost so much...

Glad you are okay --except for the winds.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  7. We've got a windy day here too. I guess we're lucky it's just wind and not tornadoes.
I just read your previous post too and the story of the message in the bottle. How fascinating!! I'm glad you shared it.

  8. Our wind has finally died down, but it was a mess out there this morning!

  9. I'm glad you didn't get soaked on your walk -- that sky looked pretty threatening. I hope you didn't have any worse weather. The tornado sirens went off twice in our community, but fortunately the tornadoes missed us.

I so admire you for your desire to walk.
