Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Cookie

A very nice warm day yesterday and the temperature got up in the mid 80's and set a new record high.  It was very windy though so it didn't feel hot.  I did get to sit out on the deck for a bit.  Ken joined me when he got home from work and we sat out awhile before dinner.

Lots of rain again last night but it stopped before I started my walk.  It was a warm morning with a temperature of 58 degrees.  A windy and cloudy morning as I made my way around the lake.  The sky had layers of clouds and I could see the different layers racing across the sky.  It started to drizzle when I was about a mile from home so I was a bit damp.  I no sooner walked in the door and it started to pour!!  I made it home just in time!!.  With the rain came lower temperatures and in just little while it was down to 42 degrees.
Just a few people out this morning so I had a nice quiet walk.  Didn't even see any of the regulars.  I spotted three deer and they didn't run off this time.  They just stood there and watched me walk by.  I also saw one of the white egrets again.  This time he was flying low over the water.
I walked 6.4 miles.

I went to the Tuesday knitting group and enjoyed the morning knitting and talking as usual.  I was home a little before one. It rained on the way there and back.  I no longer have a nice clean car.  Oh well, the next warm day I'll just have to wash it again.
It is now mid afternoon and the sun has finally decided to come out again.  Very windy and only 49 degrees.  What a difference from yesterday.

Another old picture from my past.
This is Cookie, my dog when I was a kid.

I was in the third grade when I got her.  I had been wanting a dog for a long time.  A few months before I got Cookie my parents got me a German Shepard,  (My mom's favorite breed) but she was just too much for me as a kid to handle so they gave her back and then I got a very much smaller Toy Terrier.  I fed her and took care of her and loved her, but being a kid I'm sure I didn't always do what I should.  My mom would threaten to give Cookie away to someone who would take better care of her.
When I was in fifth grade, one afternoon I went to the movies with a friend.  When I got back home Cookie was gone along with her bowls, bed, and toys.  I was told that Cookie got hit by a car and died.  As you can imagine I was very sad and really missed my little buddy.
I have always doubted that she really did get hit by a car and died.  I've always thought she was given away.

I hope your Tuesday is a good one.A smile from me to you.

Oh that's a sad story. Very difficult for a child to understand. When I was in the second grade, my family got a German Shepherd. I loved that dog, yet I don't remember his name. He was very fond of me and not so fond of my little sister. I came home one day and he was gone. I was told that he ran away. I didn't find out what really happened until I was all grown up. So I'm sending you a gentle hug for the loss of Cookie...

What a crazy difference in the weather. Though I'm sure that you don't mind having the temps rise a bit more slowly.

Rain continues up here too. We had to do our walk in the mall, again. Not that great, but at least we did get it in. Being consistent is a big plus, for me.

Awwwww, the sad tale of 'Cookie.' I never had my own dog, when growing up. But I adopted quite a few cats. And they all came to sad ends, which were not of my doing. Ahhhhhhhhhh, the not-so-neat stuff of growing up....

Gentle hugs...

I know this sounds a bit hard, but I always believe that pets should never be considered belonging to a child - we always had cats while the kids were growing up but we told the kids the cats belonged to us. We never expected the kids to do anything with regards to the pets, because they belonged to us. Now as adults, both my kids have dogs (animals that need far more of the owner's time than cats), and both kids are excellent pet owners. The kids learn from our example. If we take good care of our pets, they will take care of their pets. Expecting kids to care for animals is unfair to the animals and the kids. And in the end, the animals wind up finding another home. Sad, but true.

Anyway, your posting hit a nerve for me. Animals aren't disposable - and in our family they are family. Cookie's story was sad, but probably went to another home - better for Cookie.

Cookie is a cutie pie. I imagine that must have been very sad and hard for you to have her just disappear like that.

I thought of you this morning when I heard the thunder and I think there was some lightening, although I didn't see it. You're right, it did pour, most of day in fact. Again, I thought of you out there in the rain. Can you believe this crazy weather? I can't wait until it settles down. Your Cookie was so cute! I suppose we all had our childhood dogs, our family dog was Mister. Mister was a stray, there was no giving him back not that we would anyway. Mister did tricks and listened to the family's commands. I think Mister was thankful for a home. Mister talked too, he stood by the back door and scratched lightly when he needed to go pottie. We gave Mister away to a family who had a farm when my father received orders to transfer (we were a military family).

I, too, thought about you this morning when it poured as I drove to work (I had decided not to walk before leaving for work due to the weather, so it was a bit of guilt that I experienced in thinking of you!). What a good influence you are!!

Oh what a sad story, Happy One, about Cookie... I hope that your Mom didn't GIVE Cookie away... BUT--I also hope that Cookie wasn't hit by a car. How sad--whichever is true...

I had a white kitty named Snowball for many years... After going to college, Snowball died... It was hard to go back home without her around.

Hugs,
Betsy

Will you ever ask your mom about Cookie? I'm thinking Cookie went to another home.

Glad today was a dry and sunny morning for you. Happy Day!
