Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

This and that

A cold misty rain was falling this morning as I left the house in rain pants and yellow slicker for a walk around the lake.  It was 34 degrees.  I am not complaining about the rain though, because that's all it is just rain.  No snow or ice. : )
The geese were noisy as usual but the birds were quiet today.  I did see a lot of Robins.  It was easy finding breakfast for them this morning because there were worms all over the paths just waiting to be picked up.
I counted 6 people around the lake which was more than I expected.  As I came around the bend here I saw the whole parking lot was filled with police cars and vans.
My first thought was that they were looking for someone but then no one seemed to be concerned about anything. Some were sitting in their cars, a couple were standing around and I saw some go into the big van.  I walked up to a couple of them as asked what was going on.  They said they were just having a police operation (whatever that is) and the park was just a good place to meet.  He assured me the park was safe this morning.  So with a thanks and a good morning I was off walking again.

The work on the pier is coming along nicely.  I took a picture of it this morning.  The boat ramp is done and it looks like they are about to pour concrete any day now for the rest of the pier.
I guess they will also plant some trees and flowers and place a bench or two around.  It should be nice when they get done.
On the path heading back home I saw the people with the barking dog again and stopped to talk to them.  The dog is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Once we stopped to talk he stopped barking.  They said he is a very friendly, nice dog and doesn't bark at home, just when walking.  I had never heard of this kind of dog so looked it up when I got home.  Click HERE  if you would like to learn about them and to see a picture.
An interesting walk today.  I never know what I'll see or learn.  My walk is never boring.
Today I walked 6.5 miles.
I added up the coins for this month and the total is $1.36.
2 quarters, 8 dimes, and 6 pennies.

Last night we stopped at Safeway and bought ice cream.  If you buy ice cream, I'm sure you have noticed that the container is getting smaller and that the half gallon ice cream container has been gone for a while now. Ken as been saying one day we are going to see the half gallon container come back saying, New larger size - half gallon.   We both cracked up laughing when we looked at the ice cream container and sure enough that is what it said.
We don't usually get this kind - I think it's the Safeway brand - but we just had to because of the container size.  The ice cream was okay but not as creamy as the Turkey Hill which we have been getting lately, so we will be going back to Turkey Hill.

I have mentioned before that I do an exercise DVD of Body Electric that I recorded years ago off the television on a PBS station and have been doing these same four shows over and over again.  I am happy to say that I have found a PBS channel from Washington, DC that we get which airs the old shows every morning at 10:00.  : )  I am so excited to be able to do these new exercise routines each day.  I can now save the old ones I have and do them if I can't be home at 10 for the television show.  I aim to do this 3 or 4 times a week but don't always make it.

I keep a food journal and a weight chart and have for years.  The food I write down and keep it in a book.  My weight I record in an excel spread sheet with a chart.  The last couple of days I've been recording my food and weight on line at the website Fit Day.   I find it very easy to use and helpful and a great way to keep track of everything.

I'm baking bread again today - another traditional white loaf because we need bread - but when it is finished I will be baking another loaf.  This time I'm going to try raisin bread.  I love raisin bread and a couple of pieces of it will be my snack tonight.

A few more old picture.
Linda and I have fun visiting The North Pole.  Here we are licking a great big ice pole.  If you look closely you can see that our tongues aren't actually touching it.
In this picture my dad told us to make a face like the ice pole tasted yucky.
And here we are with Santa.  He looks like he needs to fatten up a bit doesn't he?  Well it was in the summer.
Here Linda and I are a couple of cow girls when we visit Frontier Town.
When we were in Frontier Town we took a ride on a stage coach and part of the ride was that Indians came and attack the coach.  I remember my mom screaming because they jumped right on the stage coach and it scared me half to death and I started crying.
That is all the photos I will be posting from that trip but still have other photos from other times to post.  Hope the pictures haven't become boring yet.

We are having a rainy gray day here in Maryland and I'll be home all day.  It's nice to be dry in a nice warm house.
Hope your Thursday is a good one.
A smile from me to you.
Happyone : )

  1. The stories that go along with the pictures are almost as cute. Very sweet and licking the North Pole too funny! Pre-A Christmas Story, too. Santa at least has a real beard!

It must have been a bit unnerving to see all that action in the parking lot before finding out what was going on.

Have you noticed orange juice containers? It's not 64 ounces anymore.

  2. Well you had a bumper day with the $ you found!!

I'll say the park was safe with all the police! I like it when they have the operational meetings there. Sometimes the Medivac even lands for trials -- that's really neat to see!

  3. Sounds like an interesting day so far. That's funny about the ice cream containers. I have definitely noticed that they are getting smaller.
Your pictures are so cute. It looks like you loved that little doll.

  5. I just caught up on your last two posts. You fit a lot in. I love your old pictures! I haven't had ice cream for weeks. Can you believe it? I miss my ice cream but I had to do a little diet :))

  6. I had forgot about a police operation until your post. It is their "practice" on how to handle situations. I had come upon one years ago which scared me. I was told then what it was. Your pictures are so wonderful, childhood was definitely a happy one. North Pole & Frontier Town....California? What a hoot that you found the "new larger size" of ice cream. So sad to see it all go, but that's just another change to get use to I suppose. Hope the $1.36 is a profitable month for your walks. Thanks for the Fit Day website and the link to the barking dog. I certainly will steer clear of that dog. Hope we see the sun soon, don't care much for the dreary, rainy days.

  7. I'm enjoying your pictures. Keep 'em coming.

The family next door has a Ridgeback. He's the first I ever saw. I can't say that I appreciate him, though. That dog doesn't know the meaning of "shut-up." I asked his owner why he always barks - even when on lead. She said it's because he's a hunting dog and thinks he's trailing prey.

  8. I love the post, but must say "Ohhh fuzzzie"! 'Cause I had my comment all composed. But wanted to check something, in one of your old pics.

I had to click on it, to enlarge it, to see. And thus, I lost my already composed comment. -pout-

Now, I have to go back and compose it, all over again.

My point????????? If people posted their pics in a larger way, I'd not have had to click on, and lose my comment. I just made a Comment on this issue, in Vee's blog... Where she speaks of diff sizes, and Blogger New Editor. With Blogger New Editor, one can size their pics, no larger than 640, and still show them, in a large, larger, etc. size, with the New Editor Blogger thing.

I know. I'm rambling. It just happened, RIGHT AFTER I left Vee's comment and it was kind of in-my-face. :-)

Now............ to write my original comment, again.

    :-)))))))))))))

  9. Please don't stop the old pics. Love them.

I am in your Mother's generation, so you girls were my children's approximate ages. I love, love, love how you Mother had you dressed!

An outing, yes. But pretty cotton dresses, and white socks and probably black patten leather shoes, and hair fixed nicely. And your Mother was wearing a nice blouse/slacks too!!!!!!

All were not in tattered jeans and old T-shirts, with hair just pulled back in a pony-tail, is my point. I doooooooooooooooo love the Old Ways! -grinnnnnnnnnnnnnn-

    :-)
