Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A quiet walk and old pictures

My walk this morning was around the lake.  It was dry when I left so I didn't wear my rain slicker or rain pants.  It felt like rain though.  Once I got to the lake there was a slight misty drizzle and that came and went a couple of times and finally stopped.  Then once I was about a mile from home, back came that misty drizzle which turned into plain ordinary rain and by the time I got home I was pretty wet.  It was only 34 degrees so it was a cold rain too.  Still I was dry for most of my walk and the one good thing about rainy mornings is that I get the lake to myself.  Only saw one other person.  When I get to the lake I usually turn right and walk that way, but today I went left and walked around the opposite way.  Each way around, the hills to walk up are pretty equal.  I saw something fly by out of the corner of my eye and it was the heron coming in for a landing at the waters edge.  I couldn't get very close but close enough to take this picture.
That is worth walking in the rain any morning. : )  Very quiet around the lake.  Even the birds and geese were quiet.
I walked 6.3 miles

Just yesterday AuntAmelia had a post about bread machines and I left a comment that I use mine all the time and don't know what I'd do without it. This morning I was all set to make some bread in mine and as I was taking the bread machine out of the cabinet it slipped right out of my hands and went crashing to the floor.  Pieces of plastic went flying all over the place and now I no longer have a bread machine.  My wood floor as a few nicks in it too now.  I've had that bread machine for years.  Guess I'll just have to get a new one.  It was starting to make a funny noise once in a while anyway.
I think tonight after we go out for pizza, we will just have to stop on the way home and find a new one to buy.  Maybe it will be even better than my old one.

These two pictures were also taken the same Christmas as yesterdays muff picture.  I was four years old.
I've just come down the stairs and got a look at the Christmas tree and the presents Santa had brought me.  Check out that wall paper.  What was grandma thinking of when she picked that out. : )
Another favorite present of mine that year was a Betsy Wetsy doll.  I'm sitting here in my Sunday dress all ready for church holding my doll.
We were living with my grandma while waiting for our house to be built which was a couple towns away.  Four years later we were back at grandma's waiting for another house to be finished.  This one just a half mile from her.  I loved living so close to my grandma and I could ride my bike to see her whenever I wanted.  She was always a gentle, happy grandma to me and I spent many hours with her and I loved her. : )  She died a couple of weeks before I turned 17.
This picture is of me, grandma and my mom one Easter Sunday.

It's been another day at home for me just getting more stuff done around the house. I'm looking forward to my usual reading and knitting while waiting for Ken to get home from work.

I hope you have lots of happy moments scattered throughout your day.

Thanks for sharing more of these precious pictures with us. I hope you can find a new bread machine. We'd be lost without ours.

Hi There, Sorry about your bread machine. As George said, we have one and use it constantly. We never buy bread anymore. Hope you can find another good one!

That wallpaper was popular back in those days.... Everything I grew up with seemed to have flowers all over it... ha

Neat that you had such a good relationship with your Grandma... Mine were ALL dead before I was born--so I missed out on that. Sigh!!

Congrats on the long walk..... Great pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy

Glad to hear most of your walk was dry. I woke up at 7:15, it was raining here, I thought of you, hoping you were dry and warm on your walk. You will need to bundle up for the next week or so. So sorry to hear about your bread machine. You're right, on the bright side, your new one will have many more new features, I'm sure. I think the doll I had that pee'd was Tumbulina. I love your old pictures, thank you for sharing them. It is always nice to go back in time and relive some good memories. Enjoy your pizza, our pizza night is Fridays.

I liked the photos from your past - made me think of my own Grandma. I also liked the Heron photo - going the opposite direction occasionally is good for developing your left brain. (I try to mix it up once in awhile, too.) Oops to your bread machine - I bet that got your adrenalin flowing.

Nothing can ever stay new. Darn!

What cute pictures! I love the first one with your hands clasped in that universal sign of delight. And the one of you with those dimples...too cute...and the wonderful Easter Sunday all dressed in your new outfit. So nice! And I bet that you love having that photo of your grandmother.

As for the wallpaper...you know, I kinda like it. :D

Oh! my Goodness, I am so sorry about your bread machine, Things like this happen to me all the time, just today I put a nick in one of my cabinet doors. And because I have so many nicks, I have begun to say " it is just only adding character to my home." lol
I so enjoyed the story and photos of your childhood memories, I had a grandmother that I adored, and spent so much time with her. This picture of you with her, is so precious, as it brought back some wonderful memories for me.
And as always thank you for taking me with you on your walk.

Hello again, I'm back! I broke my bread machine and went back to the old fashioned way of making bread and everyone likes it better than when I used the bread machine so I won't be getting another one. I do use a Kenwood mixer to do the kneading with the dough hook and then leave it on a warm windowsill to rise. Hope you find one to suit you.

I don't Know maybe I'm a little crazy, (weell of course I am/ LOL0 But a little walk in the rain ONCE in AWHILE can be nice, it bring a certian feel of it's own a refershing of sorts as well as that smell right after, however it is only once in awhile and with temperature a little higher. Nice Pics, I still make my bread in the oven, nothing like fresh baked bread from macine or oven. May you continue to allow the God of your understanding Love, Guide and Protect you

Such precious pictures!!!

Sorry about the bread machine slipping. -pout-

You mentioned gluten free pizza... And I added a reply comment, in my blog. I'll copy it below, because I never go back and re-read a blog's comments, once I've read them, myself.
,,,,,,,,,,,

Yes, 'Happy One' they have G/F pizza, to buy. And crusts, to make at home. But pizza crust is not one of the things, which can translate into G/F, without losing so much. Just like all bread products.

,,,,,,,,,,,

What can I eat? Fruits, vegetables, non processed foods. I make my own G/F cake/cookies, but not much of it, is really satisfying. Just the ch. chip cooking mix, from which I have to remove the ch. chips anyway. -chuckle-

Plus, so much which is protein, is not heart healthy, so that even meat products are... problematic.

Eeeeek! :-)

♥ Gentle hugs ♥

Sorry to hear about your bread machine. It seems like every time I drop something on the wood floor it leaves a dent. It used to really bug me, but now I don't worry about it.
I love your pictures and memories of your grandma. She sounds like a wonderful lady.

I can just imagine what it felt like as that bread machine fell from your hands to the floor. Glad it didn't land on your foot!
