Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Thursday

It was 29 degrees this morning so all the wet spots from yesterdays melt turned to icy spots.  At least I could see where they were and walked around all ice.  Tonight it is supposed to snow again.  The problem tomorrow might be that the snow covers up the icy spots and I've already had one fall and don't care do have that happen again.  So that means no walking.  But I'll worry about that tomorrow.  Today I walked around my lake.  It was nice to get back to walking around here.  Barb asked which place I preferred to walk.  Old or new.  Though I had a great couple of paths and the river to walk along at the old place I like the new much better.  There are way more paths and different routes to take here and I just love the lake.
I saw about a dozen or so people out, most all I knew or at least have seen around.  The general topic today was "watch out for the icy spots."
I saw another different kind of duck at the lake today.  This one is gray on the bottom, black on top with white on its bill.  I just couldn't get a good picture again.  Too far away.  AuntAmelia thinks the other black duck I saw with white may be a Pin Tail.  I haven't seen those again.
I walked 6.4 miles on a cloudy morning with a few peeks of sun.  A pretty sunrise this morning too.

I had some house work that I just had to get done today so I spent the morning doing that.  Not so much fun but it is a good feeling when it's done.
I was hoping to go over my friends house and give her the afghan I made for her but she wasn't home today.  I'm really anxious to give it to her. :-)  I'll just have to wait for another day.

I baked some Wild Berry Muffins this afternoon.  Just from a simple Martha White mix where you just have to add milk, but they are very good.  I make them for Ken to bring to work for breakfast.

I have three philodendron house plants that have been kicking around the house for years.  They turned into long stringy things.  I've cut them back many many times.  I just got sick of looking at them so  I threw them all in the garbage today.  I'd like buy a few different kinds of plants to have around the house.  Any one have any suggestions of simple care plants that make good house plants?

Its that time of the day where I like to sit and do a little reading or knitting, so off I go.  I'm reading a biography, Cleopatra, a Life,  by Stacy Schiff and only have about 60 pages left so I should be able to finish it today.

Hope all is well with you.
A smile from me to you.
Happyone :-)
I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls.
They always say because it's such a beautiful animal.
There you go.
I think my mother is attractive,
but I have photographs of her.

I had to laugh about the plants you threw out. One day the secretary where I worked threw away a plant, bowl and all. I found it in the trash in the ladies room. There was one little tiny snake plant in the bowl. I took it home and now that little snake plant is almost 5 feet tall and needs to be repotted! She past away a few years ago. When I water it, I sometimes think of her and how she laughed at me for grabbing that measly plant out of the trash! She was a sweet lady and I didn‘t mind the ribbing.

Wanda, funny you mention that because I got these 3 plants out of the trash too. :-)

-chuckle- I asked the *resident duck carver,* about this duck today. He has a request... Could you tell him, the length of the tails on these birds?

Long or short, I mean. We don't mean for you to get right up to them, and MEASURE. -giggles-

Anyway, guess the tails tell a lot.

It seems like every year at this time I see my houseplants with new eyes and end up pitching at least one. This year it was a fern. I have a few Peace Lilies which are nice plants for low light places.
You and I were both baking muffins today.
I hope your friend is home soon so that you can surprise her with the afghan. Happy One will be making another person Happy :).

Loved the picture of the sunrise...beautiful!
I have always had good luck with ivy and African Violets as house plants, as well as the snake plant that Wanda mentioned. For some reason I cannot have any luck with ferns, but am thinking of trying one outside this spring. I also have what they call "Good Luck Bamboo" which is very small, and makes a pretty indoor plant.

Your dawn and mine this morning look nearly the same - lots of purple and pink. I like your lake walks, too - the paths you take are so scenic. Jade plants are easy but my all-time favorites are Christmas Cactus. Mine bloom at least 2 times a year and barely need water or care. I have several different colors. You should find good sales on them now.

I who have no luck with house plants have found that I can grow African Violets. They really never get big and when they bloom, they are so beautiful. They just need the right sunlight. I have always wanted to grow a Christmas cactus but they never bloom for me.

Just also wanted to let you know that your kitchen turned out just beautiful after you painted it.

The muffins not only look good, but look like they smell good!

I have a few houseplants. I think you might like a peace lily -- quite easy to care for and does not appreciate direct sun, and maybe some Christmas 'cacti'. (They not really in the cactus family). But don't buy any of these -- I can give you cuttings. A prayer plant is also lovely and quite easy to care for.
