Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

The houses I've lived in

Sunrise 7:40
Sunset 6:02
I left a little bit later this morning on my walk and walked around the neighborhood before heading over to the lake.  It was warmer out than I expected and got a bit  warm and realized that I wore one layer too many.  It was a cloudy morning and I felt a few drops of rain but that was all.  The clouds started breaking up and the sun eventually made its appearance.  A normal amount of people out around the lake.  Saw a few of my walker friends and we had a sentence or two to share while walking past each other.  It's amazing what you can say in that short amount of time!  The geese were in a state, very noisy and a few were chasing each other around.  They all seemed excited about something.  No deer again today.  I wonder where they are all hiding.
A great day for a walk and I went 6.5 miles.

Giving Thanks Day Number 5
I am thankful for my home.
Not just the building which is my house, but what makes my house a home.  A place where there is love, a place to feel safe, content, and happy.

Ken and I have lived in many houses since we've been married and I have enjoyed being in every one of them.  Every one of them was a wonderful home.

The first place we lived was in Norfolk, Va.  A furnished apartment.  Not much but we were on our own and would have been happy anywhere.  Our son David was born there.

Ken got orders to Scotland and so we packed up and moved over seas.  While there we lived in Kinnaird Castle in Brechin for a few months. A part of the castle was made up into flats and we lived in the Laundry Room flat.  Only one bedroom though and with David and another baby on the way it was just too small.

Our next home was in Montrose where our daughter Debbi was born.

The next home in Scotland was base housing on the base in Edzell. We were in Scotland for 4 years.

New orders came for Ken and we were off to Pensacola, Florida for the summer so Ken could go to a school.  We lived in a duplex.

Then it was on to Puerto Rico.  We stayed with friends on the base there for a little while until our base housing was ready.  We were in Puerto Rico for 3 years.

Orders to Washington DC and we bought our first house in Dale City, Va. where we lived for 5 years.

When Ken got orders to Ft Meade, Maryland we moved to Waldorf, Md and bought another house.  It wasn't quite ready when we had to move out of the old house so we rented a house for 3 months a couple of miles away until our new house was done and we moved again.  Ken retired from the Navy while we were there.

Work kept us in the area but we moved closer to work and that is when we moved to Savage and bought our house there. We lived the longest there at 14 years.

And that brings us to the townhouse where we now live and house number 11.  This January it will be two years.  Every house was something special, but I was always ready to move to the next place.  I wonder where our next move will be and how long from now. :-)

I made another loaf of bread today.  This time just regular white bread.  Also got the slow cooker going making Smashed Potato Soup.  Soup is one of those foods that tastes better the next day so we will have that for supper tomorrow.  Since today is Friday I'm ready for a pizza night out. :-)

A breezy day and I have my three clothes lines full of clothes out on the deck.  A nice sight to see them blowing in the wind out there.
Time to take the clothes off the line.  I'll bury my face in them to smell the good fresh air smell before I fold them. :-)

The rest of the afternoon before Ken gets home from work I'll do the usual knitting or reading.

I hope this Friday finds you with a smile on your face.
Happyone :-)
I was trying to daydream,
but my mind kept wandering.

Interesting thinking there, Happyone. Most of us don't enjoy thinking about moves...at least, I don't. Your wash looks so pretty on the line and I know that it smells good.

I didn`t know you have moved that many times. I am sure you made all the places a wonderful home.

I often put on too many clothes when I am walking - I never learn...

Kinnaird Castle looks amazing! We've always wanted to go to Scotland and are hoping to do so in the next year or so.

That is so neat to have lived in a castle! I dream of going to Scotland. Maybe one day soon.

A Military family has such interesting living places. I especially love the Castle one, you had. Even if it was cramped. :-)

Do you really consider moving again? Do you have ideas ahead of time now........ As to where you might want to retire to, etc.?

The Net! It let's us view so many life styles, different from our own. Another one of the Wonders of the Net and of Blogging! :-)

Thanks for a very interesting post. You've lived in about as many different homes as I have, but you've seen much more of the world in process.

Wow, you have made lots of moves and lived in some very interesting places. We've lived in the same house for about 38 years now. Maybe someday we'll be brave enough to make a move.
