Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Applesauce

 Sunrise 6:49
Sunset 4:45
Up early on this Saturday morning and out walking when it was still quite chilly out.  The sun was shining and it had that nice crisp Fall morning feeling.  No special route for me today, just walked where ever I felt like going at the time.  Walked down paths, streets, and in parking lots.  Very few people out.  I saw four deer off in the woods.  Now that most of the leaves are gone the deer can't hide from view behind all the greenery but now they blend in so well into the brown trees.  Their white tails bobbing along give them away.
My friend Lin who is out of town A LOT with work is back in town and called me this morning.  She always calls in the morning when I'm walking.  She walks in the morning too and we walked and talked.  Nice to walk along with her today. :-)
I walked 6.2 miles and found two dimes.

Giving Thanks Day Number 13
I just have to add Ice Cream to this thankful list!
I really do enjoy a nice bowl of ice cream.
All those delicious flavors to choose from.
Some of my favorites.
Chocolate
Chocolate Chip
Chocolate Chip Mint
Vanilla Fudge
Chocolate Marshmallow
 Notice a theme there?
I'm already looking forward to my bowl of ice cream this evening!! :-)

In the morning Ken did some work at the old house and I was at home doing things around the house.  Got some laundry done and hung out to dry.  These nice sunny days are good for that.  I finally got around to dusting the ceiling fans.  That is something I don't think of doing when I'm doing my usual cleaning.  Lots of dust had been collecting up there for quite a while!
Ken came home at lunch time and we went to subway for a sandwich.  Then he went back to work finishing up the floors in the old house.  It was nice having a lunch break with him. :-)

I had a bunch of apples that I had to use up so I made some applesauce this afternoon.  My gramma used to make applesauce all the time and I made it the way she used to.  When I asked her for the recipe years ago she said there wasn't a recipe.  Just mix tart apples, some water, nutmeg, sugar, and lemon juice together and cook for 1/2 hour.  I also added some cinnamon.
Ingredients in the pot cooking.
 Yummy and ready to eat.
I just couldn't resist having this treat.  Some chunky applesauce with a bit of vanilla ice cream.  Gramma would be proud!!
I guess I'll just have to have two treats today.  It is Saturday after all.

I have to go and take my clothes off the line now.  Then I am going to finish knitting a white square and then read.  I'm about half finished with the new book by James Patterson, The Postcard Killers and it is due at the library on Tuesday.  No problem to have it finished by then, his books are quick reads.

I hope this Saturday finds you doing something fun that makes you smile.
Happyone :-)
The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies;
but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and,
as the magnet finds the iron,
so it will find,
in every hour,
some heavenly blessings!

Glad you're keeping up with your Giving Thanks challenge list. Yay for you! =)

I, too, am thankful for public libraries! We got four DVD's last night, to help us through our first winter storm of the season.

Also, I'll post a link on my blog in the next day or two for a brand new recipe (to me) for homemade ice cream. I'm telling you, it couldn't be easier!

Thank you for a new book suggestion! I went to my Library site on line, and put a hold on it. :-)

I see the theme of your ice cream - mine, too! I think you've already had 2 treats but you're allowed a 3rd with all the walking you do. I've been cutting up apples and pears and baking them with cinnamon and nutmeg plus a little maple syrup - yummy!

That applesauce looks delicious. I think the ice cream was the perfect touch to go with it.

I really enjoy reading your blog, I read it every day. I admire you for walking as much as you do every day. I used to walk 3 miles every day, but due to heart failure had to stop about 2 yrs ago. I had a heart transplant July 2, 2010, and am now back to walking 1 1/2 miles a day. My goal is to get back to at least 3 miles per day, maybe more. You are an inspiration to me, when I am walking and find myself getting tired I think of you and how much further you walk. Also, you take beautiful pictures! Are you sure you're not a professional?!!

Paulette, Thank you for your kind words. You have been through so much!! That is great that you are out there walking again. I'm sure you will be able to make your goal of 3 miles a day!! Good luck to you. :-)
I'm far from a professional - my camera is just an inexpensive point and shoot. It's very small which enables me to always have it with me!!
Thanks so much for reading my blog and I'm so happy that you left a comment. :-) A happy day to you fellow walker!!
