Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Back to cooler weather

What a difference a day makes. A cool, almost cold and windy morning walk. Not much sun either. The sun did come out later in the morning. It rained over night and it cleared away the pollen and brought the cool weather back. Great walking weather! I think I say that a lot!!
If I walk directly to the lake, walk around it and don't take the path that leads away from the lake for a bit and then straight back home, it would be 5 miles. I usually take the path away from the lake and a little detour on the way home to get in my 6 miles. Today I walked directly to the lake and walked around it two times but stayed to the path right around the lake. Then I took a bit of a detour on the way home so I ended up walking 8.1 miles which was 16,611 steps. I may have gotten carried away a bit. :-)
Pink and black seemed to be a popular color today. I saw 5 people besides myself in pink and black. Lots of people out there walking and running. Most people say good morning when you pass by, a few people don't like to talk, avoid your eyes, and don't say anything. Then there are the people who always have a smile and something nice to say as you pass by. These people just seem to make the day a little bit brighter. :-)
I saw a heron posed on a dead stick sitting out of the water and he took off in flight while I stood there and watched. Just beautiful! I saw a deer family wandering along in the woods stopping to listen and watch me pass by. I listened to a woodpecker, heard the loud honking of the geese waking up, the song birds, and a man behind me whistling a beautiful tune. It sounded so nice, that when he caught up to me I told him how pretty it sounded. He said he was singing in a concert tomorrow and was remembering the words as he whistled. I don't hear many people whistle and if I do, it sure doesn't sound as nice as this.
I was out walking for a bit longer than two hours today and I enjoyed minute!!

Too cold out today to sit on the deck and read so I stayed inside to finished one of the books I've been reading , Angel Time, by Anne Rice. It's about Lucky the Fox, a hit man who meets up with an angel who gives him a chance to save a life instead of taking one. He has to go back in time to the thirteenth century to do it. I thought it was a an okay book. Some real good parts in it make it worth reading.
In the book is a quote from Charles Dickens that I liked.
"Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears,
for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth,
overlying our hard hearts."

I started knitting the white square again from yesterday and had no problem at all. Things turned out right this time. I didn't finish the whole square though.

That show Damages that we watched last night was pretty good. Glenn Close is a lawyer and she is ruthless in this. Ted Danson is in it also and his character is not like the likable Sam Malone. We will be watching another episode later.

After supper we went to Weis and got in a new supply of ice cream. No cookies tonight for my snack. I'm having my favorite ice cream, chocolate chip. I'll probably knit too. Not on the square, I have to concentrate on what I'm doing with that. I'm working on another afghan - another surprise for someone. :-)

Here it is Friday already. Hope it was a good one for you!

The blossoms on the trees are sure pretty. I can see how you might have gotten carried away on your walk! =)

Glad you showed the white square who's boss!

Keep us posted on your assessment of Damages. I see ads for it on TV but haven't watched it. If it's good, I may order it from Netflix. I see Campbell Scott is in it. He was in Royal Pains last summer and I'm wondering if he'll be back on that now that he is in Damages.

Hope your weekend warms up.

Oh I love to hear a good whistler. You were blessed to hear all the morning songs, but you deserve it for walking all those extra steps!

I am loving this weather Karen. Sounds like a great walk. My teammate Lelia and I had a great run / walk after work yesterday of 6 miles. Pure pleasure being outside in this kind of weather, with all of the gorgeous colors. I posted photos on my "racing" blog. Have a great weekend. Art

I think it's wonderful that you find so much beauty as you walk. That is truly a gift from God.

Besides dogwood, those are my favorite spring trees. I can never remember if they are red bud or flowering plum.

Pink on the trees and on the people - in fact, I'm wearing it, too! I walked only 5 miles this AM, and it was cool here, too. I wore gloves!

I'm hoping the weather becomes less mercurial. I do very much enjoy waking to these sunny days!
