Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Starting out

Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers for a safe trip for us. :-)
We started out 7 at this morning. I made lemon muffins yesterday and during our first rest stop in PA we ate them for breakfast.
I took this picture of the Pennsylvania country side while driving by.
These two are in New York.
Isn't this a beautiful sky!?
We took our time and just enjoyed the ride. Beautiful, sunny, cool weather. Couldn't ask for a better day.
In the afternoon in one of the rest areas was a McDonald's and we each got an ice cream cone. You know me, can't pass up that ice cream. :-)
We are staying at this Hampton Inn (so glad it has high speed internet!!) in Bennington, Vermont - a really nice little town. In the picture of the hotel if you look close you can see a tall monument that looks like the Washington Monument a little off to the left in the screen.
Here's a bigger picture.
Tomorrow we are going to look at it up close. We are going to walk around the town here as there are quite a few nice things to see and do.
No walk for me this morning but we did walk 1.6 miles around by the hotel so at least I got a little walking in.
I am really getting far behind already in reading all your blogs, but I'll catch up as soon as I can.
I hope you all had a great Monday.
Happyone :-)

Ahhhh, yes, the Bennington War Monument. I'm glad that you'll have some time to check it out in the morning. We didn't when we were there last summer. We just drove on by and took lots of pictures. Don't forget to look for the painted moose. ;>

Yeah! A post from the road. Sounds like a great first day. So strange to see that monument there! Looks just like 'ours'. Hope you post tomorrow. Don't worry about keeping up. I just wrote a post about being behind!

Sounds like the trip is off to a great start. Love those puffy clouds; such a great contrast to the sky.

I love discovering monuments. Especially the ones that aren't well known. It doesn't matter how significant the story is, just that it was important enough to those people to erect a permanent record of it.
