Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Words of Wisdom

I like to read the signs that are out in front of churches.
Here a few that the church up the street have put out.
Today we are enjoying an early visit from our son David. He popped in (from NJ) for a pancake breakfast. Make your Sunday a Happy One. :-)

I love reading the messages posted on church signs. The best one I ever read said..."We are open between Easter and Christmas"....thought that one to be very cleaver and much truth...Great Post!

My all time favorite is one I saw in South Georgia several years ago...Seven days without prayer makes one weak.

Nice post. I always enjoy reading messages on church signs. Most are so, so true.

I'm behind on comments, as usual, so I'll catch up here.

Your new home is coming right along. I know you feel like walking on air everytime you see more work completed. Again I say, "I'm so happy for you and hubby. This is a wonderful experience."

I believe the sanke is a copperhead. It appears to have a wide flat head and a blount nose. These things are not user friendly - don't get close! They strike without warning and the results are life threatening.

Happyone - I also think it was a copperhead. The coloration and pattern is right and from the close up of its head, I think I could see the "pits" that pit-vipers have. They will normally not bite unless handled so while you want to respect it and keep your distance, you should be fine. Too many people will kill a poisonous snake, or any snake for that matter, on sight, and that is sad. I don't know if you saw my hiking blog but about a month ago I ran into a very large cottonmouth on a hike. They have a reputation of being very agressive and pursuing people, but I think that is exaggerated. This one was just off a trail so we had to be within maybe 4-5 feet of him to go by. There were 5 of us and we all studied him and took photos. He opened his mouth wide, which is their threat warning meaning "stay away and leave me alone". But at no time did he attempt to strike or pursue. We didn't cross his threshold of safety and all was fine. Most people in the US who get bitten are either actively harrassing the snake (alcohol is often involved) or inadvertantly step on or put their hand on the snake (say in climbing over rocks).

BTY although a copperhead bite may make you feel like you wish you were dead, they are not nearly as poisonous as the other US venomous snakes and can rarely kill a healthy adult. But I would still make sure not to be bitten and keep a little distance. Also, once about 20 of us on a hike stepped over a copperhead, one at a time, on a grassy trail. The next to the last guy spotted the snake. We had somehow each avoided stepping on him!!! But even though our feet must have been within inches of him, he stayed still and did not strike. For a snake to strike at a large animal, it usually must be in their minds a last resort.

Copperhead venom is being studied for use as a cancer treatment, believe it or not. I commend you for respecting this animal and not trying to harm him.

Enjoy the day! Art

Hello.

Church signs, that is interesting. In my country we do not have them.

I heve blog telling about our churches. That blog shows photos from inside and outside, telling history of churches, architecture and of course art of altar pieces.

Regards. Carrizo.
