Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Ellicott City

We left for Ellicott City late morning and spent a few hours walking around the old part of the town. It was a beautiful warm sunny day - just perfect. We walked up one side of the street and down the other stopping in shops all along the way. There are lots of antique shops and we stopped in almost all of them. There is an old general store that sells just about everything and a shop that has lots of old iron things which are really cool. I always want everything but then don't know what I would do with it. In one store I came across a children's book called The Railway Children which was the only thing that I bought. I think I saw the story on a PBS show one time and really liked it.
Here are a few pictures I took while we were walking up and down the road.
We stopped here at the Trolley Stop and had a nice lunch.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After supper we went to the town house and took today's picture.
They are building the whole row of 8 houses like one big house and start at the opposite end of ours so ours is the last to have the work done. They are just about done with the cinder block at our end for the front stoop. They have dug holes and started the plumbing down at the other end before pouring the concrete for the floors and have finished 3 units. We are really pleased with how the work is going so far.
Vee asked when we will moving in and if our house is up for sale yet. They tell us we will be in by January but I'm still saying February. We will put our house up for sale once we are moved into the new house. This way we will be able to move in slowly. Since we will moving ourselves this will make it so much easier. The evening is still young so I still haven't had my snack which will be chocolate chip cookies. We will watch a Veronica Mars episode, I will knit and then read. I hope your Monday was a Happy one. :-)
Nice to see your town, and nice to see your new house is growing as well.
Oh a nice town it is, thanks for showing it to us.
Maybe I have to do that too.
What a neat litle town. Looks like fun shopping. I'm wondering if the book is about the orphan trains that once came out west. I'll have to go google it next.
