Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Clive's colorful paintings

The last couple of days the weather has been beautiful. Lots of sun and near 70 degrees. Good weather for building houses!! Ken stopped by the town house yesterday afternoon while he was out and saw that the "stop work" sign was gone and they were working on the houses. I'm glad that didn't cause any kind of delay. Ken is gone for the day at the train show in Timonium. He got a couple of tables and is selling off more of his train stuff. When he comes home we are going to go out and get some pizza for supper. We will of course drive by the house again. I wonder if they work on Saturday? Since I have the day to myself I was going to get a start on house cleaning but things just aren't working out that way. I'm not in the cleaning mood today. I finished reading a couple of books - one of which is Lady Blanche Farm by Francis Parkinson Keyes written in 1931. I liked this one too. There is not a lot of action but the story moves along at a good pace. It's about a family living in a small town in Vermont. The second book is Visions of Heaven and Hell by Clive Barker. There is not much writing in this book because it is a collection of his drawings and paintings. I have read his books and they are pretty strange. His art is pretty strange and weird too but they are so colorful and fun to look at. I took these photographs of several of the pictures from the book. It's still early afternoon and such a beautiful day I think I'll go outside and find something to do in the yard. There won't be too many sunny WARM days left. I know most of you all like the fall weather, but I surely will miss summer! I hope you all are enjoying your Saturday.

This is a really interesting post, your autumn scene was really nice and I agree about Clive Barker's work, I am always attracted to lots of color and his artwork is certainly very colorful. As my tastes are pretty eclectic I can appreciate them.

I'm so happy to see that you read one of Keyes books. At one time I had every book she wrote. During one of our moves (following my first husband's career) they were lost. I've started collecting them again. They aren't high action books but they're written with careful consideration of historical facts. Keyes lived on location while she was writing. I have her cookbook of recipies that she collected along the way. "River Road" and "Steamboat Gothic" are two of my favorites. One of her last was "I, The King" which was also interesting.

It definitely helps to be in the mood when it comes to housework. I think you are smart to spend time outside now before winter sets in.

Your first book sounds interesting. I am going to make a note to start looking for that author at the thrift shops.
